Agreeing with Suz, boiled will coats are usually unlined. It's a good West Coast coat, IYKWIM - and don't run cold like I do.

Boiled wool coats are often unlined. Lining can interfere with the breathability. I think they are best in a temperate climate. A friend in the UK loves hers and German friends love their Loden, but I can't imagine it would be warm enough for my Ontario winters.

But if it is a different fabric, I understand your disappointment. In my climate an unlined coat is sort of a contradiction in terms.

Echo - I did a similar post on this not once but twice. Unlined coats and blazers are a pet peeve, unless they are denim or double faced wool! I was looking at a stunning Isabel Marant blazer - unlined. My Veronica Beard Scuba blazer is unlined but it is so well made and the scuba fabric so substantial - sleeves and back are partially lined so I can live with that. It's the first thing I check. I have refused to buy many jackets do to lack of lining. Jackets slip on and off more easily, hang better, protects the fabric, feels and looks nicer especially when a bemberg lining. I don't get it. More importantly I don't like it and I don't pay for it, usually....unless I really want it.....

I hear you.

Some clients actually prefer unlined coats, Echo. More breathable and cooler for them (hot flashes....). You and I prefer lining - so high five.

Echo...i think this is the Jcrew coat you are referring to...i actually own last years verision of this coat...and can tell you this this coat is not designed to have a lining...its not meant to be a middle of Feb -10F coat, but it is warm as its boiled wool...i found this coat to be perfect for those days when it was cold, but not cold enough for my down coat...and because its boiled wool its lightweight...and drapes bueatifully...

You summed up why I didn’t find a new winter coat during NAS. Last year, I had the same issue- some gorgeous coats, many unlined.

There was a $389 Derek Lam jacket on the sale that was not lined. A $149 Kenneth Cole NY coat was unlined. The $184.90 J Crew coat was not lined. The BlancNoir jacket was unlined and looked awful on the inside (as well as being uncomfortable) to the point I'd be ashamed to take it off.

I realize that Nordstrom wants to keep prices reasonable for the NAS. But an almost $400 coat that's unlined? Really? I just have to wonder whether it's worth it to cut corners this way. Granted, Nordstrom did not produce these items, but they accepted them for the sale, and doubtless many of them were created FOR the sale. I just think it's too bad that some reasonably high chunks of change don't even fetch a well-constructed jacket/coat anymore.
