I'm a fan of earrings by Tanya Monique Jewelry: http://tanyamoniquejewelry.com/. I bought several pairs, both in local (Seattle) stores and off the website. Fun, affordable, and definitely unique; I always have strangers comment and compliment me on them.

Mirah, That's a great suggestion--making your own beaded jewlery. You can also pick up jewlery quality beads at craft stores. Also, two of my favorite neckaces were made by my kids using a shrinky dink jewlery kit. I'm not just saying this becasue my childen made them--they are really unique pieces that I get complimented on every time I wear them.

local boutiques is a great idea..however in my area anything like that is either too expensive or too tacky.. But if anyone is interested with a little time to spare..there are cute little stores called beadworks in the north-east..I dont know if they have other locations..(www.beadworks.com) ..you can buy your own material like beads, stones and other metal stuff and make all sorts of cool jewellery..totally personalized and unique! Its very simple and they have books for ideas and even help you out if you would like to stay in the store and make your own stuff. And its way cheaper.

Also try to hit any local boutiques. I live in a small town (although it is a college town so we have options that many wouldn't have) and I have found that the local boutiques have great accessories for cheap. And most of the boutiques are conscious about the "everyone has one" issue--they only stock a limited supply of any one item. Even if you have to make a day trip to a nearby town, I recommend not relying on chains and trying out some of your locally owned shops.

The uniqueness of Anthropologie products is, they are inspired by ethnic designs from all over the world. I totally agree with Angie regarding their quality/price ratio however..
I dont know of any chain stores which sell similar designs but the internet gives some good options by way of ebay (ebay express if you dont like the bidding process) and amazon. Both sites sell accessories which come from a wide variety and location of merchants giving a more eclectic choice. Plus there are different price ranges and quality to suit a variety of needs.

I actually have a big issue with their quality. I love the colours and the ambiance in their stores, but at the end of the day, I find their goods nice from far, but far from nice. I’ve stopped going in there for myself and for my clients because it leads to disappointment. Oilily comes close but this is an expensive Dutch brand. Miss Sixty, Miss Selfrdges and Renee Derby all offer a similar look but once again, it’s not cheap. I think that the look can be duplicated in a cheaper way, but not easily and quickly. This is why Anthropologie continues to sell successfully at high prices. People buy the goods because the look is fairly unique and turn a blind eye at the quality. It’s truly not so fab.

I totally agree with you. Anthropologie has beautiful clothing, accessories etc but are just out of price range unless on sale. If anyone has any ideas I also would like to know. They have good sales but unfortunately I live in a small town so need to purchase thru the internet most of the time.

Although I love Anthropologie, I have a problem with their pricing. It's not just that it's expensive, but that I often see no reason for a lot of their products to be priced the way they are EXCEPT that they can't be found elsewhere. The quality, however, is often disappointing in relationship to the price....and well, I don't have $178 to spend on an entirely fabric purse just because it's "unique." Where else can I find handbags and jewelry similar to what they sell but for a more reasonable price? There must be somewhere on the internet...
