Torontogirl, the plaid blazer is crazy versatile. I know it is not “ best quality “ so will not likely be super durable. I have looked for better quality jackets in similar pattern/ blue- black combinations and there are some from time to time , but never just right. Either heavy wools, or short tweedy ones( and I am keeping my old AT tweed for this) or too much white in the plaids, or something. So I decided not to keep waiting for the HEWI , but consider it a trial run/ gateway jacket - especially since it is lightweight and can wear in summer. So if I ever find something very similar in a better fabric, and this combo is still working for me, I’ll be ready.

I often like the IDLF lookbooks but haven't purchased anything from that line yet. Somehow the clothes seem wrong on me: too wrinkly or voluminous... I own quite a bit of Uniqlo but mostly sleeker, simpler styles. Glad these items are working for you though!

I have been admiring the Uniqlo IDLF Fall collection. I noticed this fabric, they have dresses in it too. It is interesting to me as I have midi/maxi skirt from 99/00 in the same vein, roll/twist and knot. Mine is cream and is nearly identical with a small floral repetitive print. It is polyester and has worn like iron, and always was machine washed. I was thinking of letting it go as I have not worn it in approx. 6 years (I know, I struggle letting things go :)), and was quite intrigued to see such a similar piece in a trendy collection.

That’s really true, isn’t it? Re lightweight clothing and texture. Hmm.

rachylou, I do like some prep elements-loved my Weejuns but will have to find new sizing for my fussy feet.

The “navy“ of the solid top is the perfect not- dark navy to give enough contrast with black, so that at least was fun to see this color exists.

When trying these on I was also reminded of Runcarla’s post on texture in the wardrobe - and how hard it is to have much texture in lighter- weight clothing.
Usually my outfits have so much smooth fabric combinations, compared to the effect of this twist fabric.

I haven’t purchased anything from that line but I like Uniqlo basics—their lightweight down, layering undershirts and plain dresses. I’ve seen the twisted fabrics there before—in skirts. I’d imagine in a top it would add some interesting texture! Can’t speak as to fabric but most of their stuff does seem breathable so would probably be a good choice especially for layering.

I am a fan of Ines de la Fressange style even though she can’t serve as an“ body type” model for me! I guess that is kinda lemming- like but mainly I think it is that she is frequently photographed in pants , jackets and flats, which is my “ outside world “ style.
Anyway I was oblivious to both Uniqlo and to their IDLF collaborations until recently. I first visited Uniqlo on a trip to Boston a couple years ago and got a couple of their basic items.

I am trying the Uniqlo- IDLF “ twist pleat tops” in the navy print and solid navy. The print is subtle due to both the actual small print and the way the “ twist” disrupts it, and a change from solids and the twist adds interesting texture. It mixes well with quite a lot of things including my plaid blazer below- I swear that plaid pattern - mixes with everything!
The solid navy Is a great “ medium “ depth navy ( the print has a dark navy background ) but I’m not sure I need both , as fabric is a type of polyester. and I have no idea how it will launder and wear. The print fabric is very flat ( meaning not shiny), so almost seems like a rayon, whilst the navy has a bit of sheen.
I got one in 2 sizes, and the XS looks good from the front but is more fitted through the bust than I think I will wear, and doesn’t work as well with pants, so I would go with S for more relaxed look.
Also side note, the tops arrived twisted and tied in knots, which is how fabric care instructions recommend storing them!

Several IDLF items, mostly tops, sold out just a few days after launching, it seems.
I was interested in a navy tattersall ruffle neck top but it was gone in a flash. Just as well, now that I have done more “ color palette research “.
