Hey Angie! (starstruck) :)

The prob I have with the others like uniqlo is they don't look like they'd lay flat.. like under a blouse you could see that you have an undershirt on at the sleeves and neck. Plus, I hate having to re-tuck all day. Maybe there's something more to these I don't know?

These have changed my life. They go around your bra, not over it.. and they do NOT show under clothes at all. They run a little small, so unless you're teensy tiny, I suggest sizing one size up.
http://www.annienymotee.com/shop

MuseumGal, those are fascinating! I'm not thinking of that so much as a breathable base layer, but I'm intrigued for customizing a dressy dress! Once upon a time I had a sleeveless dress for which I was seeking some kind of fitted lace longsleeved T top to create a sleeved look.

Great question. I am interested in the answers. I have used J Crew tissue tees, but they don't fit your criteria because the neckline would be too high. They work perfectly for me. They also last a long time if you hang dry.

I use Lands End and LLBean silk tees for that purpose. Below is one with 3/4 sleeves. I prefer this length sleeve to long sleeves as they don't show. This shirt also comes in ivory and in black. They are a bit pricey but there should be sales soon and they last for many years.

They are much lighter weight than Cuddle Duds but just as warm as a layering undershirt.

Like everyone else I love Heattech. I don't overheat in it - if it's cool enough for a sweater, then sweater + heattech is comfortable.

In my opinion Airism is not as good - it doesn't have the same 'feels like you aren't wearing anything' quality as heattech.

The EF silk jersey is nice too but - unlike Gryffin - I've given it up because I can ruin one on three wearings. Heattech lasts forever and is cheap to start with.

I like the Heattech for sweater weather too. I don't know if they would be cool enough for mild weather. The nice thing about the Uniqlo ones are many have a wide neck that doesn't show under most of my tops/sweaters. They are also snug enough to not add extra bulk. They have a line called Airism that is designed for warmer weather but I haven't had a need for those so can't advise. Good luck.

The Uniqlo Heat tech that others have mentioned have been my go to. I have scoop, crew, and v-necks in both long and short sleeve but would love a 3/4 sleeve option. I wear them often to save on dry cleaning sweaters and usually wash in a lingerie bag and hang dry.

I like the uniqlo heattec tees for this. I wear the long sleeve, but recently when I was ordering more I noticed they aslo have short sleeve. I find there fit perfect for layering ( no added bulk, close enough fit thst I don't feellike the layers are battling with each other, but not so clingy that it feels tight). Also check out there air ism line.

You might check athletic gear, like for yoga or running. I wear running shirts under my sweaters and such, mostly because I'm always cold. The necklines aren't a problem for me as I always wear a higher neck like (like crew or turtleneck). In fact, the v-necks or jewel necks on some gear I reject due to exposure. Depending on the way the shirts are made, you can sometimes just cut the necklines, sleeves, etc. and they do not unravel. I have a running shirt that I hated the neckline of, so I cut it off.

For prolonging wear between washings, especially wool sweaters, it seems that underarm protection is needed more than a cami or tank.
I have several Cuddledud tops that are now practically antiques but 2 are shortsleeved and serve as "undershirts". Yet they can be too warm for milder weather. So ideally I'd like something in the thinnest cotton possible.

I realize that an actual sleeved undershirt won't work for many items, as the sleeve edge would show. Plus for some tops, it's hard to get a neckline that is wide enough not to show. And the fit needs to be good, so as not to change the line of drape of the garment. But for a lot of sweaters and tops that are thicker weight and with higher necklines, an undershirt is just what I need.

I'm currently looking at something like the cotton shirt in the Find below, and I think there are some silk options, but wondered what other lightweight undershirts other Fabbers have tried and liked?
