sorry maya - this is the style i meant by non-collapsible. http://www.armchairtrader.com......d.jpeg.jpg i guess the kind that only has hinges at the very top. i noticed that most of my fold-up umbrella break at the hinges mid-way down the umbrella, so perhaps by eliminating them, you would eliminate the flipping-inside-out thing.

Don't have any advice for you, but I agree about the bright umbrellas on a rainy day! I have a delightful blue one with white polka dots that my sister brought me from Germany and I love using it.

I had an umbrella from H&M Angie, and Shell is right--they aren't meant to last. A few windy days later and mine was broken.

What do you mean by non-collapsible, Shell?

fyi: i have two umbrellas from H&M: my fabulous pink one and a navy/white printed one (w/ the cutest little cherubs!). however, they don't stand up great against wind. though i look like a dork when it blows inside out, i am a fabulous-umbrella accesorized dork! :)

i'm thinking the non-collapsible ones stand up the best against wind, despite their inconvenience.

Radley (a British company) has cute umbrellas Maya. The small ones are super compact and quite sturdy.
http://www.radley.co.uk/en-gb/...../?cid=RUMB
(not all available designs are on their site though).

I have the slim daisy in black. Bought it on eBay.
I'm not sure if you can find them easily in the USA though, but it's worth to check eBay.co.uk, lots of sellers ship overseas.

OK, maybe I'm the only one that considers an umbrella an accessory, but I figure as long as it's going to be a yucky day, at least I can shield myself with a cute umbrella. Recently I lost my beloved Marimekko umbrella that I only got a few months ago and only used twice :(. I need a new one, but this time I'd like to get one that's smaller. A mini umbrella less than 9" long when closed, lightweight, and automatic as I often only have one hand free. It needs to be fairly sturdy despite the small size though, since it gets pretty windy here and I have had problems with umbrellas turning inside out. A tall order, but maybe someone has a recommendation?
