Rae, that's exactly how I word it, when I expect someone to dress "up" but I cannot enforce because is not required. I'd go conservative, including pumps, not booties.

That's kind of how I feel, too, MaryK. Like they're saying a suit isn't *required* but it would sure be nice. :T

I wouldn't wear the "Blazer of Glory" outfit. It's fab but all the clues you are getting seem to say "more conservative that that."

Honestly I would consider looking for a new suit because it seems like it would win you some points. But plainly a non-matching blazer and pencil skirt would be just fine, too.

Oh, I definitely love that outfit, texstyle, and feel confident in it. Is the bright orange blazer too "out there" for an interview?

I agree with the others a nice pencil skirt and fitted blazer that go together but don't match is business professional. And you could wear the jacket part of this suit with a different skirt if you wanted, just leaving it open, right?

Edit: what about something like this outfit you posted before:

I once had an interview dress not fit and I didn't realize until the night before. It was an airline interview where they fly you to their hub and all that . . . I had no time to change it out. And it was awful. Buttons pulling across the front of the skirt. Ugh. Worse was how I felt in it. Squirming, not confident. I'd advise the alternative outfit that actually fits great.

A pencil skirt, jacket and blouse would be perfectly acceptable. As long as everything goes, and fits you well, that is the main thing. An ill-fitting suit would be a misstep in my opinion.

I agree with the suggestion to go with a fab pencil skirt, blouse and jacket -- probably more "you" than a suit and just as polished and professional! You are beautiful, no matter whether the suit fits you or not.

Rae, you might want to consider calling and double checking. i think the HR person would appreicate your follow through and it might add to your chances.

Alright. I guess I can stop hyperventilating for now. I'll still call in the morning, but I'll put the panic on the back-burner. Honestly, I was very surprised to see "business professional" as the suggestion there - I've been the stuffiest one there at the other interviews I've attended so far.

Rae, this is what I found:
Women should wear business suits or skirt-and-blouse combinations. Women adhering to the business professional dress code can wear slacks, shirts and other formal combinations. Women dressing for a business professional dress code should try to be conservative. Revealing clothing should be avoided, and body art should be covered. Jewelry should be conservative and tasteful.

So it seems a blazer and a skirt which are not a suit are fine.

I can commiserate. It stinks when the clothes you depend on don't fit anymore. I wish I had some great words of help, but alas, nothing comes to mind. I hate interviews! (big hug)

I honestly don't think a suit is 100% necessary. I think a nice pencil skirt and jacket would be totally appropriate (especially for the Rack.)

I will call the Rack to double check, but the Nordstrom website says to dress Business Professional on the website... after Googling a bit, it seems that means suits.

Rae, I don't think you have to go out and buy a suit - can't you just wear one of your fab jackets with a fab skirt (well, with THE fab skirt...)? You'll look so much cooler, IMHO.

AAAAaaah! It's horrible, isn't it? I haven't had to wear a suit in too long, and the stress of the last job was not kind to my behind. Both the jacket and skirt are tight.

Sigh... is there any way to salvage this, or do I start shopping for a new suit?
