My fav is the Cynthia Twist dress. Although is is patterned. I like the lace boudoir dress but the skirt is straight and looks long, and because of the lace it might not ba simple to hem.

Without looking at any comments, here are my picks:

Vivienne Cinch Dress

Scalloped Boudoir Lace Dress

Retro Glam Dress

Cynthia Twist Dress

The Francesca (although beautiful) is too much like your stunning Maggie London which Mum did not like so give that a miss.

I'm sorry Michelle. Onto something that makes you feel fabulous!

Michelle, it really stinks that you didn't feel good in the turquoise dress. I do know that feeling, however, and the way you feel in a dress is SO important. So if you want another, so be it!

I actually like several of the dresses on that site. Like everyone else, I think the Vivienne Cinch Dress would be great on you. It is a faux wrap style with a very subtle (not too twee!) ruffle around the wrap edging. We all know cobalt would be a fantastic color, but I'll throw a wrench in the mix and say if you feel like you already have a lot of cobalt, I think that the amethyst would also be a great color on you.

I can't remember if you like black in dresses, but if you do, I agree with Julie that the Scalloped Boudoir Lace Dress would be great. It has a wonderful v-neck and three quarter lace sleeves, which I think would be great, because I know you are self-conscious about your arms (not that you need to be!), but the lace will still allow for some air to get to your arms. The entire dress has a lace overlay. I also like the retro glam dress, which is similar to the Boudoir dress, in that it is black with a black lace overlay. The has shorter sleeves (a few inches above the elbow, whereas the Boudoir dress has sleeves that hit slightly below the elbow), which are also a single layer of lace. It also has more of an a-line to the skirt and a belt to show off your waist. The neckline is a surplice neckline and it's tough to tell, but it appears that the hem might hang slightly longer at the sides. I actually think this one might be more flattering for your figure than the Scalloped Boudoir dress, but there is only one way to find out!

I also really like the Sienna Dress, in either red or purple. However, that dress is sleeveless, and I know how you feel about that. It has a surplice neck that has a wrap look, but the rest of the dress is not a wrap. It looks like it has a red underlay with a black overlay, in a chiffon-type fabric. There is a wide waistband.

I also like the Francesca dress, but it has a portrait neckline that falls just off of the shoulder, so wearing a bra with straps would be difficult (and a strapless might also be difficult because it is definitely low-cut in the front). Finally, I think that the Blooming Horizons dress would look great on you, but I worry it might not be quite formal enough for more formal events. It is black with a v-neck and elbow length sleeves, with a turquoise waistband and a turquoise pattern on the bottom.

I think that a lot of these dresses are perfect shapes for you: v-necks, sleeves, defined waistbands! I definitely think you should try some on and take photos for us, because I think you're going to look great!

Oh, Michelle - so sorry that you did not feel fab :-(

I don't know how that happened, but I do know there are times when I AM well dressed, but the environment I'm in is NOT conducive to my style or choices and it has made me feel bad -- sort of wishing I was just dressed like the rest of them. Dont know if that makes any sense, but want to validate that your cocktail dress IS fab AND fab on you!

But my picks for the dress site are: Vivienne Cinch Dress (an elegant style, love the cobalt, the fabric would probably require spanx) and and Retro Glam Dress in black lace (I love that it has short sleeves that are just the black lace, surplice neckline, and removable sash).

I'm guessing your mum had a problem with the cocktail dress? Will you still wear the turquoise one to events where your mum isn't present? so will the new one be for when you are out with your mum? If yes I'd pick a super conservative one x

My suggestions are in line with the ones above, but my comment is also in line with the above: I can't believe the custom dress isn't as perfect today as it was a few weeks ago.

Given all that you've said about family dynamics, I hope that you taking care of yourself as best you can. Whether from nature or nuture, I know that when I am undergoing -- or anticipating -- stress I get very self-critical about myself. And that includes my appearance.

If you must have a new dress, you must, but maybe you could give yourself a day to "detox" and recharge before ruling out that gorgeous blue dress entirely?

My favourites have already been mentioned: the Vivienne Cinch in cobalt (beautiful colour for you), the Scalloped Lace Boudoir dress that Julie linked to (very retro and romantic, great with pearls!) and the Francesca. I actually like the Francesca best, it is so "retro film star", very glamourous and alluring. I think it would suit your body and style perfectly Michelle, though you'd likely need to amp up the accessories to really make it sing. Also, the longer sleeves and (what looks like) heavier fabric might make it more of a winter dress than summer.

I also want to reiterate that I LOVE your teal dress, and think you look gorgeous in it. However, you asked for our opinions on these dresses, so I'll say no more. It's important that you feel fab as well as look it!

Michelle ~ <<HUGS>>

On the page you linked, my faves are the Vivienne Cinch dress and the Francesca dress. They both have three quarter sleeves, a look I love and wear in the summer but not sure if that's what you'd like. The Vivienne is a wrap style with lovely ruffles along the v-neck and down the side of the skirt. I could see you in the cobalt color? The Francesca is a classic, traditional style (or you can read it as "safe"); it looks like it might be a pinch too long and would probably need hemming.

Julie linked to a really cool dress too!

what are you wanting in terms of sleeve length and color?

None of them are dreadful, and of those with short sleeves (which would be my guess) they all seem to have potential.

You know that I love you in the turquoise dress BUT if you did not feel fab I can understand why you are looking for a substitute. In terms of the dresses you linked to there is one which I very much like, for the flattering length, sleeve length, neckline and interesting texture and believe it would look lovely against your high contrast colouring (dark hair and paler skin):
http://www.maximumwoman.com/inc/sdetail/1799
Warning, this dress is very much in line with my personal tastes!

Oh Michelle, I am sorry you didn't feel your best yesterday. I don't like any of the dresses on that site as much as I like your turquoise dress. In fact the only one that comes close would be the Vivienne cinch dress in cobolt, but it has longish sleeves so may be too warm for summer temps.

Do you feel like explaining what exactly made you feel uncomfortable?

Its a long story and it's frankly too early to explain it all now, but suffice to say I'm on the hunt for another cocktail dress n ow. I wore the turquoise to the wedding yesterday, and while I didn't face overt criticism at all, I didn't ffeel fab in the least.

There's a store here that seems to carry a lot of dresses in my size. I'm posting a link to a selection of them. I would greatly appreciate feedback from you on any styles that look either particularly promising or especially dreadful and should be avoided.
