Oh Theresa, we have all been there. After reading the difficulties you are having my first thought was a patterned tankini top with a solid coloured bikini bottom. Your persistence will pay off, I felt so comfortable on the beach this summer because I did not settle for a just adequate bather.

Theresa, I'm not sure whether this is a viable option for you in Australia or not, but I had fantastic luck with Land's End last season. (And I HATE swimsuit shopping, as it's usually impossible to find something that fits and supports my bust in a one piece, let alone find one that I actually liked.) Even on the off-season for US swimwear, they have a lot of items in stock that have gone on sale.

I got this one in a pretty blue color, but also really like this, this, and this as flattering one-piece options.

Good luck Theresa! Swimsuit shopping can be oh so frustrating. I also have trouble with one pieces being too short on me as well.

Coincidentally though I was out swimsuit shopping today - I'd picked out a Nancy Gantz swimsuit a few months ago when I bought the speedo lap-swimming pair I bought. I knew as soon as I tried the Nancy one it was right for me - the first swimsuit I have not felt awful in! Extremely pricey for a swimsuit - but it was worth it for me today to avoid the misery of swimsuit shopping. I was worrying that the extra "winter weight" (haha I am hoping thats what it is) would mean I didn't love it still, but I do.

*note: I think I'm just venting here - the only solution is to keep trying things on to work out what works ok!*

Yep, its reached a point where I can't put it off any longer! Its warm enough to swim at the beach now, the girls are pestering me, I've put on weight and nothing fits me, so, a pair of swimmers has become a must...

BUT, gosh its frustrating!!

I read Angie's blog posts this morning, and went shopping... From the dozen pairs I tried on today I have discovered:

*I need wide straps - anything skinny makes my shoulders look even scrawnier than they are.
* due to my very long rise, even sizing up in a one piece means my girls are hanging out because all the extra length is used up by my rise!
* one pieces seem to emphasise the size discrepancy between my teensy boob-neck region and my much larger hip-thigh region.
*boy short bottoms are HIDEOUS as they end on my widest part of my thigh.

So I think a two piece - most likely a tankini as I want more coverage - is in order... but just to firm up the individual components now!

LOL anyway, I'm just whingeing here!

I did read in a mag the other day that you should be waxed and have a spray tan before you go swimsuit shopping... wonder if it really helps ROFL!!!
