Good tips here. I'm broad across the front and a half tuck helps to break up that real estate.
Emily, thanks for linking the style girlfriend site. I'm gonna look through there for tips for hubby.
Shiny, to cuff straight legs that are not tight at the bottom, hmmm..this is going to be hard to explain.
First, put your finger in the bottom of the pants and pull out to make fabric taunt against your ankle. Then, catch that fabric an inch or two away from your ankle...you need some room to roll. Fold that fabric back around the other fabric around your ankle. Then roll. Surprisingly, it stays rolled very well.
It will blouse out a little where the extra fabric is rolled, so I usually do that on the inside toward the back, but the cuff is tighter against the leg than a straight cuff would be. Hope you can make some sense of that.

I'm also a fan of the half tuck, especially when I don't want the entire waistline of my jeans to show, but I do want to still have a defined waistline... I agree about Rolling the jeans, especially in warm weather when we can wear wedge sandals. But for the mo it's still winter for me, so everything is tucked into boots!

Cute! I love half tucking also. I don't roll pants though because I think it shortens my legs too much.

My allergy to posts plugging other advice sites probably isn't my most flattering look, but perhaps such "members" find this sort of tackiness worth the extra hits.

I like your halt-tuck on the side. If I do in the center, I look like a praying mantis. I think I will try your way, maybe it will work for me, too.
Thanks for the link.

So as far as the jean roll goes the way that I do it is fold the jean pant haphazardly. It isn't deliberate but is more of an undone look. I only do this with super skinny jeans so that the roll stays put, othterwise it would come completely undone. Likewise, I do this with skinny jeans that hit my ankles, rather than a shorter style.

And i'm so glad the half tuck is so popular!

I agree... I generally do the half tuck - but I tuck it in all the way in the front - and leave it out at the back. I also do the sleeve scrunching / rolling and if it is a button-up shirt then I tend to unbutton an extra button at times to elongate the neckline. And if there is a blazer or jacket - on it goes! I don't do the bottom rolling bit though. Just not comfortable with it personally.

I'm not sure I understand the peg-roll: can you explain some more? I am imagining that this is different than rolling a cuff (looks to be the case in your photo) and also suspecting that it'd come undone the instant I sat down. How do you get it to stay put?

As for the half tuck, it's a godsend for me, and I'm the opposite of pear shaped. Shows off belt, elongates legs, while hiding love handles -- and also hides what is usually a back yoke that is way too long for me, and might even be buckling because it's too long. And without untucked shirt camouflage, makes my rear look like it's sagged halfway to my knees.

I completely agree that sometimes pegging jeans isn't super flattering. I happen to love it with black skinnies.

I also tend to push up my sleeves but haven't mastered the rolling of the sleeves quite yet.

I've been pegging my jeans a lot recently. I have a pair of straight jeans that almost look bootcut, which is no longer my favorite style, and I realized if I peg them rather than just cuff them, they magically turn into boyfriend jeans with the extra slouchiness at the bottom. I'm not sure it's flattering per se, but it makes them feel very now and very chic.

Angie's trick that I can never manage is the scrunched sleeves. Mine either fall down or drive me crazy. But she's so right that it can add pizzazz to something that would otherwise be rather businesslike.

I have found that sometimes half tucking my shirt helps me be able to tuck without overemphasizing my short waist. As for rolling the pants, I haven't quite figured out when it helps and when it hurts! It seems like it would be stumpifying since you're cutting off the leg line, but sometimes it just looks right. Maybe it's because my legs are longer than my torso and sometimes benefit from being visually shortened with the rolling? Dunno.

I'm not sure that these tweaks are necessarily flattering, especially the sometimes leg shortening peg roll, but I do them to help an outfit look more modern. Another thing I do for a more updated look is try to use current footwear. Your scrunched sleeves also make your outfit more flattering to my eye.

So, i'm not sure if i'm the only one that does these things, but these are two tricks i've always done to pieces to jazz them up, make them look more flattering and up the chic-factor: http://bit.ly/1kFm3p6
1. half tuck a top
2. peg-roll jeans

Are there any other ways people tweak their clothing to make it feel more flattering? This has come from years of never being able to find pieces that fit me perfectly, and having a very pearshaped body.
