The vinegar treatment is supposed to keep very dark denim from transferring dye to lighter surfaces. It kind of makes me mad - you would think the price paid for CofH would mean you wouldn't have to do that, but both the SA who helped me when I bought the jeans, and the SA who was there when I picked them up after alterations said it really should be done.
