The main reason I haven't looked at brands like roxy is that I would really like to avoid a fabric bag or pleather just for durability and dirt reasons. I like the pendelton and i know that the fabric will be good quality, and the leather sides will keep it from getting too dirty-- so, I made an exception to my rule.

I have looked at fossil bags similar to the smaller sutter in depth and height, but not in width. I wasn't able to put a water bottle in them at all although the sutter might be a tiny bit taller. I was worried that the only way it would fit in the smaller sutter would be to flip it on its side, and then the main compartment may be a bit tight with my wallet (is the checkbook type) a snack, my meds (at work they have to be in the prescription bottle), and then incidentals like feminine products and hand sanitizer, sunglasses, ect. I would prefer a purse that could hold the water bottle upright, just to avoid the odd leak and not having to dig to the bottom to haul it out (or visa versa with the wallet). If I could go smaller that the three I posted I would not be opposed.

I quite like the Pendleton motif, but if it's a bag for every day you probably want something more neutral.

ETA: Actually, re-reading your post it seems like you really do not require a large bag to carry the items you listed. Might you not want to go for something smaller and lighter? What about checking Kipling or Roxy if you want something stylish but not too girly?

I'm wondering if a neutral colour would suit you best? It will mean the bag will go with all outfits. Something like the camel one Lisa posted would be a perfect colour x

Thanks lisa-- I love fossil too. I am a leather person and appreciate the quality of fossil and frye products. I received a beautiful fossil bag last year as a gift, but it was damaged in shipping and they didn't get another one back in the color.

Lisa-- any chance you would be willing to try to put a water bottle in your bag? Unfortunately I would have to drive 3 hours to see one in person and am really curious if it would fit in anything other than a precarious position or tightly. It was my original first choice, but was worried about it being big enough to carry the bottle and a few other things without the bag looking stuffed and lumpy.

I am biased, and vote for the Fossil. I have the smaller version the sutter crossbody in white and love it. http://www.zappos.com/fossil-s.....?zlfid=111

The leather is very soft, and has some give to it, so if you start to overstuff you aren't busting a zipper. I do find the smaller bag holds more than expected for it's size if you wanted to go down a size. I have not seen the larger Sutter in person so I can't advise on that one.

Louise-- thanks so much for photographing that. I really appreciate it. I guess I am having a hard time with the size because I am usually very minimal (no purse, just wallet-- extras in coat pockets) but I am "supposed" to be carrying these other things with me for medical reasons. I am wondering if I will have a hard time adjusting or feel like I am carrying a messenger bag with a purse this size. However, most of the smaller ones available wouldn't fit a water bottle which I tend to forget or chose not to bring if I have to carry it taking up valuable "hand space."

Hmm, still not sure what I am going to pick. I do paint and am a photographer (not pro, but have won awards) but am not an art student. I do wear lots of native american and locally made "western" jewlery, but am not into the boho/hippie vibe. I tend to be a bit more rustic than polished compared to other ylfer's.

As far as my current wardrobe goes I currently have only a handful of winter and fall clothes (used to live somewhere warm and never needed them). I am having to start mostly from scratch, and have been uninspired and thought I would start with bags in "my colors." Love the colors of all three bags. Originally was looking for a warm brown, but these caught my eyes. My biggest qualm is that I am a deep autumn and I have a feeling I might be wearing lots of red, brown, navy, black, and orange this year. I was wondering if it was ok to wear a red top in a different shade with a red bag? (tomato top, true red bag) Same with the orange. With the multicolored one I am worried about pairing dark browns, navies, and olives with it. My other concern would be wearing any of the three with pink, purple, and coral. I only have one purple item, and a couple of coral and pink items (not terribly concerned) but I don't want to look off or like a 5 year old (no offense, just wore a lot of pink as a girl, so pink and purple and red combos always remind me of that!)

I'm not so keen on the 1st one it's a bit 'hippy' for my taste but if you love it then go for it. My favourite is the orange one.

As a point of refence I've photographed my crossbody bag for you. It's an inch wider but the other dimensions are the same as the orange one. It's fully loaded with my stuff in the pictures, It's fairly heavy anyway as it is leather but I don't carry a lot of stuff,it came to the YLF London meet with me and i didn't find it too big or heavy x

Don't like the first one for you! its artsy, good for an art student, but not for you!
The orange is still fun, funky but chic at the same time, I vote orange!

The first is definitely unique and would show your personality, but I fear it may not be versatile. Since you like orange, I'm assuming the orange bag will go with a lot of your wardrobe? The red is a lovely color and think you can't go wrong with it. It's great for all seasons and red goes with everything.

Oh - Ok, then you don't have to worry about if either of the bags are actually physically too big for you - its just what size you are comfortable with, right? If that is the case, I vote for the Pendleton one - because of your BA it seems like it would really fit your personality - especially since you're still at university taking classes! AND its so unique and creative looking! Second choice for me would be the orange!

5'8"-- 145 pounds long legs (34-35" inseam with flats) long arms.

I would get the "black" one in red-- you might have to click the link to see it.

The first one is a print.

Work is very casual--- I am taking some post-baccalaureate courses and working at the university in a humanities field and with a non-profit. Most of my superiors wear jeans and the dress is creative.

Orange is my favorite color, the red one looks rich, and my B.A. is in Native American studies, so I love the pendelton one.

How tall are you? That may be a factor in whether or not they are too big for you! I like both of these - the burnt orange is much more "fun" - the black more conservative. Depends on what type of environment you work in and how you have to dress for work!

Alright ladies---

I posted something before about a purse search, but I have three options I would like to run by ya now. I am not a purse girl, but need to carry one when I am working and/or not at school because I need to carry water, a snack, some meds, and my wallet with me at all times. I want a cross body. I looked at the sutter bag angie has in the ylf store, but am afraid that it might be a tight squeeze with the water bottle. I carry at least a 17 oz water bottle if not larger at all times.

I really am liking these three, but my main concern is that all of them might be too big. The other concern is what I could/couldn't wear with them. Are there any things that you could see me being unable to wear?

http://www.etsy.com/listing/54.....purse-star
(I would probably switch the strap out and take off the zipper pull)

http://www.zappos.com/fossil-s.....?zlfid=111
(in red)
