What about tulle as a wrapped "overskirt" over a pencil. Maybe a tone on tone --- navy and black, rose and red, etc? I like the midi length plus the fact that the lining is about 3 inches shorter than the tulle so as not to cut the leg line too much. I wore my leather tipped jacket to help with the bit of volume around the waist.
