Angie, you've got a good memory, by the way. Oh, and Tanya, tunics that end just below my backside look bad on me too, even though my widest spot is actually across the middle of my backside. I read lots of mags and stuff that say, if your hippy, it's better to wear a top that falls below your rear rather than (horror of horrors) wear something that stops at your widest point, but for me, an inch or 2 below my rear is my absolute worst top length. I'm short and short waisted, so a lot of tops that are available right now hit me right at that point. I usually go for tops that hit just above the crotch, or are almost knee length.

Ugh... I really want to, but I only have one full length mirror in my house and it's not lit right. I'll have to take my picture in a dressing room, or a friend's house or something. None of the everyday pics of me really show my body shape, but I'm definitely gonna post a pic soon.

It would be helpful if you posted a picture, Plushpenguin. I remember you asking a similar question months ago and I offered my suggestions then. We can really nail it down if we have visual.

Excellent question, I have been wondering about this myself. I'm an hourglass, but with some pear tendencies.

What I have found so far that one should avoid the length that hits them right at their widest spot ( in my case right under my backside). A bit shorter or longer works better. So I try to stick to either 0.5 inch above the base of the zipper length (shorter) or sort of mid-thigh ( finger tip length). Unfortunately, that excludes about 5" ( with my long torso the shorter length is 27" and the longer one is 32") where most of the tunics I find seem to hit :(

I'd love to learn more on this, and if maybe I can relax my above criteria.

Can you show me some examples that worked for you. My version of a tunic is always a full-on dress. Actual tunic tops that hit some wear on the hip always make me look more hippy. It's such a common recommendation for pear shapes, so it seems like it would be a snap, but I never seem to be able to make it work. Hip length tops are so common, and there are so many beautiful ones, it would open up a lot more options if I knew how to chose them. I'd love to find shorter ones to wear with tall boots over jeans, since tall boots and a top that's almost to the knee just doesn't look right. I could wear my tall boots a lot more often if I could finally figure this out.
