Oh goodness ladies... rubber bands and tucking into sox?? Yuck, too uncomfortable. Get some JeanGrabbers! Have been around for a few years now, slick little things, and super cute. http://www.jeangrabbers.com
Also, they just released a very cool-looking boot organizer that doesn't take up any closet space!! I've been meaning to order one... maybe I'll go do that now!

I just use ultra-stretchy, mid-weight socks--I cuff or peg the jeans, then pull the socks up over the arrangement to hold it in place. My favorite socks for this are washable wool, ribbed socks that come to mid-calf. This system keeps the ankle area smooth, and the whole things stays in place very well.

So, I have a question about the whole tucking jeans into boots thing. I am sooooo behind the times after becoming a mom. I usually jump on the band wagon after a certain style has been out there for awhile. Anyway, I am short & petite--5'1". Most of my jeans are WAY too long but I don't want to spend the dough going to get them hemmed so I just buy boots with 3" heels & have been wearing my jeans over the boots. Well now I just bought this really cute pair of "aviator" boots I guess is what you'd call them. They are not knee-length boots though. Can you still tuck your jeans into boots that are calf-length? I don't want to be the butt of a major fashion faux pax joke! Also, I do not wear skinny jeans. Period. Is this going to be a really stupid look?

You can easily make your own boot stirrupz, jeanstraps, boot snuggies what ever you want to call them. Just get 4 mitton clips from the fabic store. Cut 2 , 7 inch lenths of elastic. Fold over each end 1/2 Inch and sew a clip to each end. VIOLA. Just fold up your pants so they are tight enough to be to me smooth around the knee. You have your Pant Straps!

Not sure why it's taken so long for products to finally be released that help with this fashion dilemma, but I've now tried both Stiruppz and Jeanstraps, as well as one other, which is by far my favorite so far - Jeangrabbers (www.jeangrabbers.com.) Same concept, but not only is the price the best ($9.95 - PLUS no sales tax and cheap shipping,) they are super cute. There are three different designs, the strap is only about 1/2 inch wide and it's silky soft. The clips are small, so you can't feel them, and they have a darling little boot embossed on each. Depending on your pick (or you can get all three designs at an even better combo price!) the clips even have different metallic finishes - pewter, a black nickelish one, and even copper!! I found that the length of the strap and and recommended wearing method is absolutely perfect, provides just the right amount of tension, and you can't feel them. Check them out, see what you think. (When I ordered the combo, each pair came with it's own tag, so I actually gave one pair to a friend...very handy with X-Mas coming up... can you say "stocking stuffers??")

I SO love the jeans-tucked-into-boots look. Now we can enjoy looking fabulous all the time without re-tucking, re-adjusting, or mushroom knees!!

I discovered a great new product called Jean Straps (www.jeanstraps.com). They are removable stirrups that attach to the bottom of your jeans via a garter clip. They are super easy to use and they only cost $9.99. The garter clips lay flat so unlike the metal clips that I have seen other products use, they don't add extra bulk in your boot. Love them! Just bought a bunch for stocking stuffers.

Here's what I do. Both my skinnies and my straight legs are hemmed on the long side, to wear with heels and still have ample "scrunch." Which means they are quite long. To wear with my boots, I have to cuff them (a good 4-5 inch cuff, no less!!) then I put a sock on and OVER the cuffed part. The sock keeps everything put, and minimizes knee bunching.

It's still true there is some bulkiness at ankles - esp since I had these pants hemmed with the "retain the original hem" deal - that alone adds bulk right there. But it works perfectly fine with my scrunchy boots. A little less fine with my non-scrunchy boots, but bearable.

I would *love* to duplicate my skinnies and have them hemmed short - actually, heck, I'd not bother with a hem and just cut the dang jeans straight off - specifically and only for boots. But I can't find these particular jeans anywhere anymore.

I did duplicate my straight legs, but have yet to take them to the tailors. On my list. Will have those hemmed shorter.

Regardless, if your jeans are hemmed short, do try the sock trick.

Ok, I tried the jodhpur clips the other day. I give them two giant thumbs up.

The elastic was too long to clip to the hem of my jeans. So, I just folded the hem of the jeans up a few inches, and clipped them to the fold. This also kept the teeth of the clips from making any marks on the outside of the denim. The jeans were straight legs--not skinny.

Once the clips were on, slipping my boots on (they do not have inside zippers) was not an issue. My jeans stayed in place, and did not bunch up anywhere. The clips were comfortable, I did not feel them poking into my leg at any time.

I bought 2 sets because I figure if I break or lose one, I'll have an extra set. Well worth the $4. If you are thinking of wearing jeans tucked into boots, I highly recommend the clips.

Dcrmom - you can wear skinnies tucked into boots if you are curvy around the hip area. I can guarantee it. Re- read this blog entry:

http://youlookfab.com/2006/10/.....r-curvies/

You need to find the right boots and wear the right tops. Make sure that your boots are chunky enough to balance out your hips and wear easy tunic tops that are fitted on the shoulder line.

Dcrmom is right- a thick rubber band will work just fine. I've not done this in years, but as a child growing up in Ohio, I got a lot of experience dressing for sledding or snowball fights! One thing we'd always do was tuck our pants into our boots, put a plastic bag over our feet for waterproofing and secure it all with a rubberband to make sure the pant legs stayed down and the bags stayed up. I'm sure this would work just as well sans plastic bag. No matter how active we wound up being or how much we wound up sledding or whatever, never do I remember any of the three of us kids, and those of our friends who did the same thing, having trouble with bunching. Rubber bands can work wonders in boots.

Someone told me that you can also put a rubber band around the bottom of the pant to keep them down. Personally, I've decided that as much as I like this look, I can't wear it. I'm thin, but still too hippy to tuck my pants. So I'm freezing in 20 degree PA weather in straight leg jeans and ballet flats this winter. ARGH.

That is a good idea, Nicole. I bet those clips you can buy anywhere (I recently saw them in the supermarket) that are meant to be used to hold sheets tightly to a bed would work, too.

My calves are muscular, so I have a hard enough time finding boots that fit over my calves, never mind, tucking anything into them.

But...for those of you who say the pant legs bunch up....would stirrup clips help the bunching? Does anyone else remember these? It was a piece of fabric elastic with two clips on either end. You would clip them onto the hems of your pants and the elastic would sit under your foot.

I can't get my straight jeans into my boots without them bunching up and looking sloppy. I ended up just buying a cheap pair of super skinny jeans from H&M just for that purpose. I love this look, personally. I have very small calves, so the jeans add a bit of bulk. My calves still swim a little bit but not enough to be noticeable.

Straight legs should also work ( if your boots are wide enough at the calf) and a little bit of bunching at the knee is no problem at all. Also, remember that you can wear easy flattering tunics over tight skinnies when you tuck them into boots. You don’t want there to be bunching at the ankle cause that’s really uncomfortable, so don’t tuck anything wider than a straight leg.

This is such a fabulous casual look with a pair of flat urban or riding boots , especially when it’s cold and rainy outside
