Wonderful idea to layer the sleeveless leather peplum! This gives me an idea for a few items that I am deliberating on purchasing... I particularly appreciate the dark on dark color contrast & texture in photos 5-7! I wonder too how it might look with a 'collar' necklace?

I think you have succeeded. All of the looks are compelling. I especially love the one with a scarf. Cobalt blue is my favorite color so there is a natural bias there. I adore #5 the scarf and the fact that it is echoed in the tee.

i love 4 & 6....specially in #6 that scarf looks good on you. i don't think knotted scarves is terrible job....actually it gives different look to you. i wear leather peplum top with skinny pant & pencil skirt but now definitely i'll try oyur idea.....really it is nice idea.
http://www.leatherfads.com/sty.....-2571.aspx

What a smart idea, Janet! It never would have occurred to me to style a leather peplum this way, but I love the effect. My favorite outfits are #2 first, and then #6 - actually, all the ones with the knotted scarves.

I personally love 1, 2 and 5, which seems to be in the minority. The blue top glows against the black, and the scarf in 1 picks up the blue and brightens up the black. The necklace also adds brightness to the dark look. 5 I love because it reminds me of a dragon, in a cohesive way - the black leather, the "scaly" tee and the scales picked up in the scarf. While the tee is busy, it doesn't fight with the leather or the scarf.

6 is a little much for me because the scarf is so bright and eye-catching, seems confusing with the top (why polka dots and this pattern AND this leather shape??) and thus detracts from the overall effect.

Usually I love burgundy, but for some reason the hard leather looks better with cool tones to my eye. 4 is okay, but not cohesive enough to impress me.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of these Janet. My personal preference is for the cobalt top layered underneath with a scarf. This is just so beautiful and vibrant. I like the other versions also with the exception of the last one as I feel it just looks too bare on the neck, but that could be because I am used to seeing you in scarves so often:)

#2 is my favorite. Since the top is leather and has a streamlined vibe I think I prefer it without a scarf and with a collar buttoned up. I like the necklace tucked under the collar, too.

My second choice, with the scarf, would be the minimal infinity-style scarf in 4-5.

I'm not fond of #7 so much, because to me it looks styled as a sweater vest but it's leather and it just seems odd.

JR, I think it would be a lot trickier for something with sleeves. I suppose the sleeve would have to be removed and then re-set after the shoulder seam is taken up? But almost every tank- or sleeveless style top or dress I buy requires this alteration. Sometimes I can consider a petite size in sleeveless tops, but then the overall length is too short.

I do sometimes have issues with fitted button-front shirts being a bit too long in the torso too -- as if the darts in the bust are set too low. Then I find the shirt bunching up in the back. This is why I've been embracing the drapier silk blouse lately!

Really, you can't go wrong with any of these. But in cobalt, oh my. I love that colour and I love it on you.

I have the same problem with shoulders bulging up. I can see getting something like this altered, but would it work for a blouse or something sleeved?

Anna, thanks, that is a great idea!

Ornella and Deb, thanks! It's a good thing it fits so well -- I had to get it altered so the shoulders would sit on *my* actual shoulders and not stick up or bunch up above my chest. A typical alteration for me -- lots of straps are too long on me.

Just realized after taking all the pics that I'm not even wearing a good bra (just the minimal support one I wear to bum around the house!), so it will look that much better in the correct one!
