Thanks Aida! I agree about the cords being a bit too much, this was definitely the combination I liked the least. I also really like #4 and I think it will look even better when I have a longer shirt. I forgot to show another option, I also have my darkwash bootcut jeans as an alternative to the lighter bootcuts I'm wearing in the first pics.

#3 and #4 look really fab! #4 is my favorite of the lot. I can see what you're saying about boots or booties with #3, and if you had slimmer black pants that would certainly be a great option. Not to sure about #1; something about having both cords, which are a bit unstructured, and the big chunky sweater in the same outfit feels like a bit much to me. I think you're right about a flared skirt not working, mainly because of how long the sweater is. But I do love #5/6, so much yummy slouch there! I think the slim tights and boots are key for this look with this skirt.

Thanks for the link, Aida! I like the way you wear yours. The pencil skirt combination is great, I've already seen it on Pinterest. I've taken a few more pics and I think mine really needs a pencil skirt too. It's too long to work with a flared skirt.

#1 With the cords.
#2 With the hem of the jumper folded up. it doesn't look better that way, but you can see that a bit of visible hem from the button down really makes a difference. I hope that longer shirt works out!
#3 With black jeans. I would love to wear some booties with that, but I don't have a pair. The pants are a bit too wide to tuck into high boots comfortably.
#4 With the newly dyed red skinnies.
#5/6 With my denim pencil skirt. I had to fetch this skirt out of a box because I don't have it in my closet anymore. I just never wore it. But I could imagine wearing it like that, with boots and this sweater. Does it work? It was the best skirt outfit from the ones I tried.

I also tried it with the BFs, but that didn't work at all. It is so long and heavy that you can't do a semi-tuck to show a belt and I just felt like the clothes were totally overwhelming me.

Ooh I like all those darker options, they definitely have potential! If it helps, here's my similar sweater, though I haven't worn it very creatively yet I do plan to wear it with a pencil skirt this year a la this cute idea at JCrew; might also work with a more flared skirt as I know you wear that shape more.

Thanks Inge! I'll definitely try it with my BF jeans. I don't have ankle boots or booties, but I can wear my Oxfords with it. Same for the pencil skirt, although I have a fairly straight down oxblood skirt that still needs some alterations. I'll try that with the sweater if I finally get the sewing done.

Then if that's the case, Una.... ;)

Thanks Aida! These were just the jeans I was wearing today, although I wear them all year to be honest. I have black jeans and the blue cords, also the newly dyed red skinnies I could wear with it. I'll take some more pics tomorrow! I haven't tried it with a skirt yet, but I will.

Great suggestions above, and I'd also suggest pairing with a darker wash jean instead of these. I'm finding the light wash quite jarring, seasonally, with the chunky sweater and the dark footwear. Have you tried pairing this with a skirt+tights+booties by the way?

Yes, I too like the idea of a longer shirt peeking out from under the sweater. And perhaps you could pair it with your BF jeans and add ankle boots, that would be quite an on-trend look?
Or the same formula: sweater + longer shirt + a pencil skirt and oxfords or ankle boots?

What about belting it low (buckle below belly button) with a rather full midi skirt (I think you have one?) And, boots, of course. I could see Docs with that. I think that heavy sweater would also be cute with boyfriend jeans. What if you put it with a lace scarf or a vintage pin?

Thanks Una! It's only meant to be a comfortable, casual winter look. Yes to the wooly cap, that would be perfect! The shirt is actually untucked, it's just not long enough to be seen. It's hard to find button downs that are longer and fit both my hips and waist/shoulders.

Thanks Ceit!

Now this is a look I know! I think it is fine for what it is, a warm winter look. It's not going to be the MOST flattering style by definition, but that's the cozy functional nature of it. You just need a wooly cap and a hot cocoa.

What if you untucked the shirt and let it hang out? Might reduce some of the boxiness that way.

So I have this jumper that's 100% wool, thick and scratchy but soo warm! Not one of this fashion knit jumpers, but a real one. I normally wear it on occassions like #3 under a winter coat to layer up (it was -2.2°F in this picture and we walked three hours through the forest while it was snowing). I always wear a turtleneck under it to stop the itching. Now I thought I could maybe rescue it to wear it on normal cold winter days too. The crew neck is a bit unflattering and it's unisex so it's fairly boxy, but is it okay? Instead of the turtleneck I layered my button down shirt under it.

What do you think? Any ideas how I could wear it?
