Hi Sveta, my suggestions for trousers are Ann Taylor Signature Fit, BR Logan Fit, White House/Black Market Noir fit, and Talbots modern fit. Some of the pants from Chicos in modern/ultimate fit (which hit below the belly button) can also work. I have curvy legs and hips with small waist and these fits seem to do very well for me without any alterations except hem. I could not find a single pair of pants at Nordies during the anniversary sale (Classiques, Halogen, Hugo boss, Theory--nothing!), so my pants have to be purchased from the other shops.

FWIW, the sales associate at BR explained to me that they always make their pants with adequate fabric for those who need more length. He showed me on the pair I was trying, and he seemed credible to me. Something for all of us on team tall to keep in mind, I guess.

Sveta, I think we should make it a goal in the next NAS trip to get some decent basics as well as what might be on sale (and needed or desired). I know you did this with footwear this time, but maybe a really great pair of black trousers should go on next year's list of "investments."

Crazy that it is so difficult here in mid-sized Canadian cities to find trousers that actually fit, but I know whereof you speak and I know you speak truth!

Kari, if it any consolation you rock a pencil skirt!
Christina, I will try Talbots too - thanks!
Charmian, I am looking for slim leg pants and Gap curvy pants are bootcuts...anyway they are too short for me as Gap Canada does not carry Tall sizes at all :-(
Suz, we should grumble together for mutual support!
Kyle, thanks for the link! Unfortunately BR Canada has these pants in regular length only!
I just came back from the mall where I spent 2 hours trying on pants in different stores. No luck so far. Maxx slim black pants were close but the fabric did not have enough support for the butt - Martin skinnies hold it in much better. Sized up in pants in Cleo to get a looser fit in the thighs - but it really looks frumpy on me. Found great eggplant jeans-like pants in Melanie Lane but rise was too long for me and they bunched all around the thighs (BTW I loved eggplant color in pants)...I can continue my rant but you get the picture...
Oh well, I think I will keep the Martin if I do not find anything else in the next 2-3 weeks: at least I could wear them with tunics...
Thanks for all your help and compassion, it makes this problem much more bearable...

Yes, Eddie Bauer does have tall sizes! I have their washable dress pants - something like these http://www.eddiebauer.com/cata.....&pg=1 . The tall length for these has 35 inch inseam. Originally I was in love with these pants because they can be washed, dried in a dryer, and don't need to be ironed, and this is great for our long, cold, and snowy winters (salt stains on the hem etc. means frequent washing). I also liked the fact that I could fit tights under these pants if it was really cold. Now I think that are a bit too baggy on me, but perhaps you will find something nice in the newer styles and shapes (mine are a few years old).

They don't seem to have much in straight or slim leg style.

Sveta: if you're ordering online from Gap, have you considered their "curvy" fit pants? They are generous in the hip and thigh, without going all the way into wide-leg territory. Basically, if you're uncomfortable wearing the pants without a longer top, that sounds to me like the hip-fit is a problem. Another option might be to size up (to get roomier hips and thighs) and then tailor the waist.

What a great time to be pants shopping online, BTW! I was _this close_ to pulling the trigger on some purchases last week, only to discover trousers were on sale at Gap today!

I am an hourglass shape and find it very hard to find pants that fit (without tailoring). I have had quite a bit of success with Talbots. And, they recently launched a curvy line. I think you might be able to find them in your area. The good thing about Talbots is that they are very consistent in sizing. So if you try on some that work, you can start ordering. Shipping is free from the store if they don't have it at the store.

Talbots can be pricey and not on the cutting edge of fashion:) I like them because they are basic and I can get more creative with tops.

I recently bought these (they come in long):

Sveta, I have no advice as I've totally given up on finding pants that I like on my frame right now. I think the pants look good and will work with longer-length tops; I might go a tad looser in the cut for business wear but not to the point where you are drowning in fabric.

FWIW, due to my own pant fitting woes, I wear pencil skirts instead when business casual attire is called for. This is why I have Halogen seamed pencil skirts, plus a few other trusty standbys, in a myriad of colors; pencil skirts are my version of work trousers, and they flatter my curvy hips much better.

I like these pants on you! The cut and hem opening looks nice to me. A thought on tops, if you're not going to tuck then realistically any top you wear is going to cover at LEAST half of your rear, and more if it's tunic length. I think this is perfectly fine to do with these pants.

I so want to help but I have the opposite problem. Have you tried j. crew? I find they run small in the waist and roomy in the legs (which is why they don't fit me). And they have tall lengths too. I would not order online - if you can go to a store to get an idea of sizing first, that would be ideal.

FWIW on Theory - I have full hips and thighs and smaller waist (similar to Sveta, I think) and have not found Theory to work for my body type. When I complained about this, I believe Angie confirmed that Theory is best for rectangles.

Sveta - is there a mall or center by you to just go and plan an afternoon of trying on pants? Some of my past favorites have been from Marshalls, Macys, etc. and the brands have been Jones NY, Ann Klein, Eddie Bauer, NYDJ -- it's so variable! There has never been a go-to brand for black pants. . .

Are there Kohl's by you to try?

Sveta, I really like these on you...covered or uncovered. That's my honest opinion, but YOU need to feel that way if you are keeping them. Martin skinnies are my go-to pants. They are long, flattering, versatile and comfortable. I want BR to make them in every color and I would buy them all if they did! When it comes to pants, I feel your pain. BTW, I just bought a pair of the Martin trousers (they are cuffed). They have a wider leg, and you might like them.

Have you tried Theory pants? The Emery work well for me. I don't have much in the way of hips but I do have thighs. The Theory pants aren't cheap but I wore my last pair to death. Wore them all year round. I have them hemmed, so they may be long enough for you.

BR has really gone downhill in fit and quality the last year or more. The Logan fit is terrible on me. Sloan isn't much better. I have always done well with Martin fit until this year. Banana--come back to your old good quality!

I *thinK* these look good. Maybe a tad tight, but I read above that they loosen up. AND that may be a biased opinion based on the fact that they are not styled naturally. Can we see some trial outfits?

Lawd, Lady! It can be 20 BELOW where you live? You DEFINITELY need some trousers, Sveta!! (Or fly South...come visit anytime!) I wish you good luck in your trouser quest. It can be frustrating. <3

Renee, straight pants from BR and Gap were a total disaster: I did not even need to post the pictures here. For some reason skinnies fit better than straight legs on me...
GGB, thanks for your offer. I already have wide leg pants and I love them. The problem is that I need them in 36" length and also they require heels and I walk to work almost every day so they are not that practical for me.
Joy, if you have hips - and thighs - pants are difficult to fit too - LOL! Even though we are on the opposite sides of the pants fitting spectrum I feel your pain too:the grass is always greener... This is what I hope for - to be able to wear them with tops 1-2" above the crotch: I think they are a bit looser fitting on me than my grey ones.

Sara, you know I wear skirts and dresses A LOT! However I like my options and wearing skirts only because I HAVE to not because I WANT to feels too constraining for my liking. Also thanks to Angie I realized how cool black pants can look and how versatile they are so I want them to play with.
I don't like bootcut or trouser leg pants as much and in addition they are harder to find in PPL for my height. I wanted to get either skinny or straight pants for more versatility.
San, I think I will follow your advice and try to style them with appropriate tops before making a decision.
Sarah, LOL! I wish it was not that recognizable... Of course I would not wear tucked tops with them (shudder...)
Anna, I think we have one store here, I will check them out, thanks.

I feel your pain as most pants that aren't jeans are baggy on me. If you don't have hips, pants get hard to fit. I think the black Martins will work for you with tops worn out if they are no more than a couple of inches from your crotch. My Martins tend to loosen up during the day, not so much that they get baggy, just less tight.
If that doesn't work, do you think that you could get by with black black jeans, no fading?

Sveta, I think my figure is similar to yours and I find Boden wide legs fit me really well and are flattering on me. This season, they have a nice corduroy pair that I am considering, and a wool pair.

I have an email for 20% off through tomorrow. Free shipping and returns too. PM me your email address, if you'd like me to forward it to you.

I like the new black martins on you but I understand about wanting longer tops with them. I feel the same way when I wear mine. I ordered the Ann Taylor Mordern fit straight leg pant and really like them for a work or church pant.

Have you tried Club Monaco for pants? I always found great work appropriate pants there when I used wear biz casual.
