Beautiful blouse, so spring-y. Glad to you tried something new.
I would make it the star of the outfit and skip a topper. It would go great with white, light grey, olive or navy bottoms.

It certainly is pretty - and I love that colour. It strikes me a dressier piece - good for evenings out etc.

I'll try on anything in the privacy of a fitting room or in my own home, but I'm always wary of actually buying something outside of my comfort zone unless I'm dead sure it looks great. (which is kind of contradictory - how would you know it looks great if it's way out of your zone?) Those are the items which end up unworn in my closet . This is a real conundrum though - as how are we to ever break new ground if we always stick to the same old thing?

What a nice blouse. I agree that sometimes it's good to step out of one's comfort zone and try something different. I should do that more often!

Lovely blouse. I wonder what you'd wear over it? The sleeves would not show with a jacket, and probably also get bunched up.

Wildcard! Of course! That's the word I was looking for, not statement! Thanks everyone!

I usually shop on my own, and I am very guilty of stopping at the hanger level. If I don't like it there, I don't try it. My DD and my friend have both pushed me to experiment more and to look for colors and fabrics I like and then to try them regardless of the style. It occasionally pays off like this.

Thanks for the styling ideas! I am off to my closet to take a look......

This is lovely - - can't wait to see it on. It will look great with white and navy pencil skirts and also with greys, as Shipskitty points out.

Sharon, what a beautiful story. I would love to come shopping with you. And Gaylene, chuckling at the SA's comment...

I do make an effort to try the unexpected, yes. Often I base my "what to try" decisions on Angie's trend reports. Not because I want to be trendy, per se, but because her posts sometimes alert me to the possibilities of something I might otherwise have written off.

Lovely choice Staysfit! I guess that is your 'wildcard' for this season (to use Angie's term). I wear that colour with ink, navy, grey (dark or light) and black and find it plays well with all of those shades. It is fast becoming one of my favourite non-neutral colours and I am hoping to add more accessories to my wardrobe in that colour while it is abundant :)

I have been trying to try on more things outside my comfort zone recently to see if any of them might be worthy of a wildcard entry to my wardrobe to amp up my casual style a bit. I haven't found anything yet but I have been surprised to see how some of them worked for me in a way I wouldn't have expected them to. That is, the particular item I tried on wasn't the right version for me, but I am now more open to trying on that sort of item because I think there may be a version out there that will work for me.

I can imagine this on you - I bet it looks great! I think it would work beautifully with white. I think navy would work, too.

I love to try new shapes. It is one of the joys of clothes shopping for me. Like Gaylene, I frequent a small number of shops and the sales people know me well enough to pick things out for me to try when I go in. One of the best fashion fun experiences I have had was going to the Winter launch of a retailer I buy from and getting to see lots of women of all different shapes, sizes and ages try on the new season stock. Instant feedback from the group when coming out of the change room and lots of opportunities to see what worked and what didn't for a range of body types.

That's one of the reasons I like to shop in the smaller boutiques. I usually have a pretty set idea of what I'm looking for when I go shopping, but I've recently taken to asking the sales assistants for help. I describe myself and/or the event and let them pick out things for me to try on--often items I'd never choose from the rack. Many don't work, but I've found some gems that otherwise I'd have never considered.

The last time I did this was in a small boutique with a SA who looked in her late teens. It was fun, if a little scary at times when I saw what she had chosen, but she did make me reconsider items I'd otherwise have dismissed outright. What really made me laugh, though, was the wistful remark she made when she wrapped up my single purchase: "I wish my Mom would come in here and let me pick out some things for her to try on."

I love that blouse Staysfit, and I can see this really suiting you. Great sleeves!!

I should push myself more. I tend to shop alone, often in a rush, and can stick with safe silhouettes - I am probably more open on colour than I am on shape. It can be surprising what does not have hanger appeal but looks wonderful on!!

And yes I try to extend myself and try on new things. There are some shapes, looks etc that I just know don't work but particularly if there is a new silhouette, new design of cut of garment, I like to see how it works on me.

I went shopping with a friend today and forced myself to try on some things that she picked for me, that I might never have looked at otherwise. The find of the day, and one of very few purchases, was this blouse from WHBM. I was reluctant to try it because it looked boxy and large on the hanger, however, I was drawn to the color. I am surprised by how much I love the look overall. The sleeves are so interesting, esp. in person.

I consider this a statement piece, and not something that I can mix and match very easily. It's trendier than most of the clothing I purchase. I'm glad my friend pushed me into new territory and helped freshen my closet for Spring.

The lesson for me is to try new shapes and silhouettes, even if I think they won't work. How often do you push yourself to try something outside your typical range of silhouettes?
