I havent tried the skirt on with knee high boots. I have black leather ones, but wouldn't that be too much leather? Well, maybe I should try it out and post it for review.
Thanks Janet, I love those shorts, I'm glad they fit!
Merwoman, I remember that belt you mentioned. It could look really neat with these shorts. I think DH only has a black belt, it would look better than my brown one though.

I agree with Suz on the brown shoes too -- how about boots? You look fantastic in all of these. I am so envious of those shorts and your ability to wear them so well!

Glad these ideas have been of some use Rae. I basically wear a uniform most days to work (health care worker), so my focus has been in building up my casual, and dressy casual wardrobe. The fun part are the accessories - not soo expensive but can make a huge difference. I'm minimal, but I do like to add a few elements just to complete the look.
Belt wise- am wondering if the belt Angie posted not so long ago would work wth the shorts? It was black but had a lot of cut outs - this would allow the material of the short to be seen. Or try some of your DH's belts.

No worries cause my initial take on the shoes was the same as Suz too. Just wanted to see if maybe it was uber cool and I didn't know it...haha. But it's like Suz said, heels and a mini are a bit too bombshell...I mean the mini is borderline too bombshell for me. Remember I almost got rid of it because I felt it was too short.

Merwoman, you bring up some good ideas, and those make me realize I am missing the small elements to make an outfit. You're right I your assessment that I am fairly minimalist, and I think I am missing a lot of the small things, like belts, scarves, proper shoes etc to complete an outfit. I'll be happy to find look for them though! My problem with things is I need so little clothing and accessories because I wear uniform to work and rarely go out, so I try to limit myself to few things. Which is why I don't even have a pair of shoes other than flats to pair with the shorts or skirt. Time to fill some wardrobe holes!

Reflecting more on those shoes in pics 6-7. I'm wondering if you had a clutch that had some tan in it (like the shoes) if that would help. Visually I am drawn to your shoes and then my eye stops. Perhaps if there was a an accessory (like a bag) or scarf it would help to balance.
Love watching your style evolve Rae. I get a sense that you are very minimalist, but I think that an oversized watch, bag/clutch, or scarf might help tie the elements together and still stay true to your style.

The shorts are fantastic. For fall/winter I would love to see with a crisp shirt, a belt, tights, booties. probably a jacket. It will be such a fun (and comfortable) look.

I love the trousers, too. I agree with some of your styling ideas for those. I would wear them with a bootie of some sort. I guess the issue is what length to hem them for. You will have to pick your shoe height.

I love those brown shoes. But for some reason they don't work for me with this outfit. It has to do with the shape of the heel and the thickness of the tights; something feels wrongly weighted to me somehow. But do keep in mind that I am the type who can't wear heels with a mini in the first place and I have a slight poison eye for the look overall.

I love all these pieces and they all look great on you! I think booties might also look good with the trousers and skirt. I like the contrast of the brown shoes with the black tights - the brown is light enough that it looks purposeful. I'm just not sure about the shoes/tights with the leather skirt. A different bottom might look better to me.

Thanks for all the advice, it's been very helpful. I do have black pumps for the black tights, but just thought I'd see what the reaction is to the brown ones since I know the black would work. Most likely I would wear with flats though, since I'm not too comfortable in heels. Maybe heels for a movie date night or something.

As for my shorts, I love them! I will probably pair them with plain shirts like a white or grey Tee. I also like the look of a flowy blouse tucked in like I have above, and maybe a sleeveless blouse for the summer. I have some very skinny belts, but not sure they would look good. I think I have one brown belt that would be the right width, but maybe not a great color. Belts are something I need a few more of.

Love these trousers too. I do like them with a long sleeved blouse, and I'm thinking I should try a blazer over top the blouse for both the trouser outfit and the leather skirt outfit.

How fab are you! Clothes just love you!
Pics 1-3 - shorts are awesome and totally work with the blouse. Something to think about - the belt loops are rather noticeale, and I think need filling. Have you got some belts to try with this? Booties would also look fab.
Pic 5 - wonderful fit! I am also picturing maybe a more drapey long sleeved blouse,(silkish).
Shoes - I am hardly fashion forward, so please take my thoughts with a grain of salt - shoes with the tights/skirt did not appeal to me, I would be playing it safe with the black booties. However, you look amazing in this!

The shorts are great, although I'd pair them with a simple white shirt, the mustard doesn't work for me - not the colour, but the style. #5 is wonderful. I also love the skirt, but it's a huge no no for the shoes. I don't think black and brown is a bad combination, I like it and I wear it quite often, and the shoes themselves are gorgeous. It's just that the ankle cuff on them makes your legs look shorter and paired with thick black tights, they weigh you down. Have you tried nude tights instead?

I think with the shoes - hm, I don't love it w the brown shoes. Maybe w bare legs or with a brown skirt or belt of something. I don't think brown shoes and black tights are a no no at all, though, FWIW.

Wow, look at your legs! Gorgeous. Love the shorts and the mustard shirt seems like the perfect companion. I know mustard can sometimes be a challenge to wear near the face, but it looks fab on you! The trouser pants are so modern and very flattering. I'm afraid I have no advise, your style is at a very advance level and I can only sit here stunned and amazed!

I love #5! Such a great blouse. Do you have any burgundy or purple shoes? I'm loving burgundy with gray (well, with anything) lately so that could be a fun alternative.

I'm REALLY fond of the pumps in 6 and 7. The ankle detail is so sleek and unusual, and to me the contrast between the medium brown and the dark black tights looks intentional - my personal perspective is that mixing black with brown can sometimes look odd if they are both very dark shades, as it can look like someone thought that the brown item was actually black. No danger of that here, though.

So I got those Alexander Wang shorts I had sent back a while ago, in the size 0 now. I had originally got the 4 which were way too big. Had them for a while now, just been too lazy to take some pics :). I think they fit marvelous!

Also showing some of my new duds here, and wondering how the outfits make out?

1-3 : new AW shorts in 0. Not sure if they look good with the mustard blouse, but I wanted to put them with something contrasting so you could see the shorts well.
4 : AW shorts that I sent back in 4, for reference

5 : Club Monaco wool tuxedo stripe trousers, with leather trim, paired with a feather patterned Jacob blouse. I have paired them with plain black flats, but what else would go well? I am hoping to get navy oxfords soon, and hoping those will work.

6-7: The once orphaned leather mini skirt. I like it with the blouse. How do the pumps work? I very rarely wear heels, and these ones even less. But for such height they are very comfy. I have black pumps which would have totally worked and been very safe. Are brown heels with black tights a no-no?

TIA for the feedback!
