Suz-Thanks!  I think both tops are going to be keepers, they are both refreshing styles compared to my current tops.  I do think you are right and styling of the classic items with this capsule is really a key factor here.  If I don't scrunch or accessorize properly, then items just start to look out of place.  I also think a new colored bootie could really help my recent capsules.  Time to start looking for a pair, I wish I had paid attention to that burgundy color Munro bootie from NAS now.  :) Amiable-Thanks!  I hope you will share your capsule creations when you are free. It *should* work perfectly (in theory) but in practice it can sometimes be trickier. But I think a whole lot is in the styling of these items, vs. the items actually "not going."  To your first question: Really like the sweatshirt on you, and the striped top, too. I would agree with Pawprints -- striped sweater might not be your best, but isn't bad at all.  Love the BF looks, and to my eye, the blue blazer works perfectly with these when you scrunch the sleeves. Sleeves must be rolled or scrunched. If you are able to wear the pants full length, then you might be able to wear the sleeves of the blazer down as well. It is something about that bit of skin begging for another bit of skin to show and a less "stiff" presentation.  Call me crazy, but I actually like the ponte pants looks, too, and do not see any bum issue. But if they don't feel good, swapping out for another pair of black or charcoal trousers would work fine. I love the thumbnail of the peplum and Mural, but up close I see the issue with the greys. Frustrating!!  The grey jeans work really well to my eye! I like them a lot. I can't see the conflict with the Mural sleeves, but in person you would know better. What happens if you scrunch those Mural sleeves? I tend to agree with PawPrints that different, non black footwear, would be better here -- do you have some grey booties? Might be time to investigate that option. Or the Sam Edelman Pettys in snakeskin? It's super versatile... Though I know the whole point of the capsule was try it with two shoes. In my "real life" capsule I allowed myself more footwear options and belts and things immediately felt better. I love the BF looks. Every one of those is a winner. I think you have done a great job with the grey jeans and ponte pants too. The mixed media top is spectacular on you. I don’t think it washes you out at all. It’s a different silhouette and it looks terrific. The Mural bomber and navy blazer work so well in all of these combinations. If you want, you can swap out the ponte pants with an alternate black pant but these look good to me. I think adding a tall black boot might help to reduce the “legging” vibe. Joy-Thanks!  These capsule posts have been a LOT of work, but also really helpful.  I really like the mixed media sweatshirt, it seems like a fun piece, so I'm happy to hear the color is ok.  The black/white striped top is very soft and has a nice drape to it, also it is long sleeved which will work nicely for layering.  I'm leaning towards keep for both items right now.  The ponte pants are from last year, so I can't size up in these but I do have two other black trousers I may try in this capsule instead.  The BF jeans do unroll to a full length for me, and I don't think they will last too much longer rolled anyway.  I'm already getting cold and it's only dropping to low 80s, mid 70s! Isis-Thanks!  I do have 3 pieces to swap out.  But I think I am at my limit after these pieces.  I've probably overhauled half my wardrobe between NAS and these recent purchases! Pawprints-Thanks!  I was surprised that combinations I thought I would really like, once I put them on, were only "meh."  I think you hit the nail on the head for the navy blazer and why it is not working here.  The navy blazer is a classic piece and a favorite, but from my style when it was very preppy and classic.  I still like those styles but the newer items here (BF jeans, grey skinnies) are not in that classic grouping.  This may be why it is not working in this capsule.  I usually wear my ponte pants with long tunic length tops, but figured I would try it with regular length pants since Angie had them as a bottom for both the ensemble and capsule fall posts.  I think they are just not a short top bottom for me.  I probably have 5 different shades of grey in my closet right now (including the mixed media sweatshirt which I am leaning towards keeping right now) and it's amazing that they are all so different! I do think it's interesting and frustrating how things that look like they should work together let us down in action. This is a great post, instructive and fun. You have a good eye. 1. Winner. 2. Good fit on a basic. 3. I like this style on you. The bold stripes seem not bad but not your best. I'll be in the minority. With the BFs I like the outfits with the mural and with the teal sweater (teal is good on you). Something about that navy blazer. As an item it seems fine. But it acts like it wants to go with more tailored or dressy items. Or something really clean and classic like white jeans? Maybe even with full length jeans? I like Navy with jeans. I don't know why I agree with you that it doesn't play so nicely in this capsule. The pontes do act like leggings and work with the longish teal sweater but not so much the shorter pieces. I do like the mural with the peplum (you don't like it so maybe it has issues off-screen?), with different pants. Ditto the navy blazer and teal top. I like everything with the grey jeans, some more than others. I wonder if different shoes-grey, blue, cognac, green?-would help with some the outfits that include the navy blazer? Black works with both colors, but together it adds to, maybe even causes (?) the difficulty with this blazer. I'm not sure about this, but you might play with it. I don't see the grey sleeves fighting with the jeans but they might well be IRL. When greys fight it's so frustrating. I got a grey mesh cardi for a summer topper and it clashed with all my greys. It looked fine with other things, but I didn't want to make it work. I wanted it to just work. Grey is really good on you. I hope you keep that sweatshirt. Thanks for sharing your capsule work. First, I love 1. the multimedia sweatshirt on you and don't think it washes you out. It looks great as styled. The dotted shirt will be a workhorse and is a good length for pants. You can wear black! I think the striped top will be fine with the top button done up. How does it feel to you? 4. Jackets and bottoms. Why not just use your black blazer for this capsule or let it cross between capsules if you are happier with the results? Love the Mural bomber. I like your boyfriends and the grey metallics but agree that the black Ponte pants aren't ideal here. They seem more like leggings, needing long tops to my eye. Maybe sizing up? 5. Shoes. Great. They look different enough to give variety. Outfits: 7-12. BF jeans: I really liked your navy blazer outfits here and all the outfits look fab. Are the jeans long enough that you can also wear them unrolled? 13-19. Ponte black pants: these could be looser maybe, even though you have a great figure. I like 13, 14, and 16 best but think all versions work. Again, I like your navy blazer here. 20-25. The metallic jeans: 22, 23, and 25 are my favorites after the multimedia shirt in #1. Lisa on "Trying out Angie's Fall Capsule" https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/trying-out-angies-fall-capsule#post-1021375 Thu, 05 Sep 2013 00:03:34 +0000 Lisa 1021375@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ Hi, Now that I've tackled Angie's fall ensemble from my last post on the fall ensemble <a href="http://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/trying-out-angies-casual-motg-ensemble" rel="nofollow">here</a>, it's time to take one step up and try out the fall capsule from <a href="http://youlookfab.com/2013/08/22/one-capsule-many-outfits-casual-wear-for-fall/" rel="nofollow">this post</a>.  I really liked the fall capsule and my first impulse was to run out and purchase the first 3 tops from the post. #1-Mixed sweatshirt This is a fun piece but is this a keeper or does it wash me out? #2-Buttondown shirt I've already worn this one, it's a great lightweight piece. #3-Striped top Is this top a keeper? I like the lightweight material but was uncertain about the broad stripes for me. Then I realized I was cheating and decided to try to repeat the fall capsule with items I already own. #4-The jackets and bottoms. I already used my black leather jacket in my fall ensemble post, so I wanted to try out other toppers here.  I selected my navy blazer because it's the closest to cobalt I own.  I then added my white Mural bomber, because it's the closest to the mixed media sweatshirt I have.  BF jeans and ponte pants are easy, I had those already.  And continuing my trend to try to include as many new items as I can, I added my grey mettalic skinny jeans from NAS. #5-Shoes These are the same shoes I used in my fall ensemble post. #6-The tops I own Tops is where this got difficult.  The buttondown shirt I now own, so that was easy to add.  Then I had to find items to fill in the one's from the post.  I wanted to include a knit to mimic the weight of the mixed media sweatshirt, so I added my teal knit.  Continuing with the color teal I added a short sleeve tiered top, which is my substitution for the printed t from the post.  Then I included my peplum top for more print, which is my substitute for the yellow short sleeve turtleneck in the post.  I then added my flower printed t which is my substitution for the black with white striped top from the post.  I then finished with my navy knit, which matches my navy blazer.  The two navy items substitute the cobalt blazer and knit from the post. Now onto the outfits! #7-BF jeans with flower top I would not have thought to pair this flower top with the white blazer before. #8-BF jeans with navy knit A nice tonal look of navy. #9-BF jeans with teal top I'm not sure about this combination. #10-BF jeans with peplum top I would prefer this peplum top with my black blazer. #11-BF jeans with buttondown shirt I'm not sure about this combination. #12-BF jeans with teal knit I'm not sure the semi tuck works with this knit. ~~~ Now onto the ponte pants,  I didn't care for any of these. #13-Ponte with teal knit I'd prefer these pants with a longer top. #14-Ponte with buttondown shirt I'm not a fan of this one. #15-Ponte with navy knit and scarf I forgot the post had a scarf, so here is my substitute. #16-Ponte with peplum top I don't think this jacket works here. #17-Ponte with flower top I'm not a fan of this one. #18-Ponte with teal top Again not loving this look. #19-Back view of ponte pants. I think all the ponte pants outfits are a bust.  I don't think ponte works for me unless the top is very long, too much bum! ~~~ Now onto the metallic jeans, these were the hardest to style. #20-Grey jeans with peplum top I would prefer a black blazer here. #21-Grey jeans with teal top I think this one is ok, I would not have thought to pair this top with grey jeans. #22-Grey jeans with teal knit I think this one also works, again I would not have though to pair the teal with these jeans. #23-Grey jeans with navy knit I'm not sure the white jacket works with the grey jeans. #24-Grey jeans with flower print I think the flower print works here, but again I am on the fence with the jacket pairing. #25-Grey jeans with buttondown shirt I'm not sure a buttondown shirt works with these jeans. Now time for some reflection. -I liked all these items together, until I started trying to create outfits with them.  I kept wishing for my black blazer for many of these outfits instead of the navy one.  And I don't like any of the ponte pants outfits, with the actual ponte pants.  I think a different fit of black pant would have worked better here. -The grey jeans are a challenge to style, I'm not sure which toppers work for them.  The navy blazer seemed to boxy.  The white bomber, I felt the grey arms clashed since the greys were a different shade.  I kept thinking the tops from Angie's post would have worked better for these jeans. -The boyfriend jeans are really easy to style!  I felt most of these outfits worked out ok. Comments/suggestions are welcomed and thanks for reading, I know this was a long one!
