Ok, I'm not reading the other responses first, so as not to color my initial impressions.

First of all, the fit looks very nice. The length is a bit long, to my eye. I like a long coat for the drama, but I think this would be best on you hemmed a couple of inches.

A caveat. I have found very long coats like this limited in usefulness. They are never as practical as it seems they should be. The extra length always seems to get in the way. YMMV. I just think that knee length or slightly below is more usable and versatile.

I don't wear that color, personally, but it looks pretty nice on you, so I say yay to the color unless you have any reservations about it. It is very classic.

Two years ago I bought a long trench coat nearly this length, maybe 6 centimeters shorter. Then I started doing more shoulder and arm exercises and now the sleeves are really short. Kind of the opposite of the problem we were discussing on the other thread regarding blazer fit after weight loss for you.
Anyway, I think I am about 10 lbs heavier than when I bought it, and most of the gain is muscle, and it still fits terribly. So I would definitely recommend holding off until you have been the same shape for at least a year for such an expensive purchase.

Personally, I think a shorter knee-length is more versatile and flattering. Make sure you have the right layers on underneath. For the rest - KILLER.

Sterling, what happened was that when I tried the classisc knee lenght after trying this long version it felt meh in comparison. But I am practical person and I understand that this long length is not the smartest choice.

Bijou, that is great advice, it never really occurred to me that I can shorten it if the lengths becomes annoying. That is a good point to keep in mind.

For now I will postpone the decision until my weight stabilizes more. This coat is not the top priority at the moment, it is just something that my DH wants to buy me as a gift for long time but I always resisted because of price which to me seems like too much. I had a day off yesterday and we went out for lunch and passed by the Burberry shop and he convinced me to just go in and try one on, and maybe I change my mind.

I love this coat on you. As a bit of history Burberry trench coats were made for UK soldiers and when they returned from service many of them had the coat altered to a shorter 3/4 length. This coat could be shortened in the future without compromising the integrity of the coat. This is something that you will have for a long time, so I would go with this size (as you are at a sort of mid size now) and this colour. The length is really up to you!

It is a lovely coat. Have you decided against it in favor of the more classic cut? If so, I think it is a good decision to keep looking for one that suits you better in terms of length.

I like the look of it unbuttoned, buttoned it looks ( to me) like "too much coat" and overwhelms you. Unbuttoned it does look dramatic and amazing. The people who have talked about the practical aspects of such a long coat have good points.

Spectacular. FWIW, I owned a long coat a few years back and my issue with length showed up on stairs. The front hem of the coat would sometimes brush the top of the stair ahead as I ascended creating a tripping problem.

I love it on you but if I were in your position (possible further weight loss, unsure about length) I would probably wait.

There are pros and cons to long and short coats. I adore the drama of a long coat, and a long coat can be practical for those who walk or take transit -- apart from the splashing and dirt it tends to pick up at the bottom. (This is a real concern; I once had a gorgeous navy wool trench for winter, long, and it was constantly spotted with salt and slush -- it drove me mad).

I agree with those who say that for the car a long coat is a pain. Too much shifting around of fabric.

A long coat is great because it covers all dress lengths/ shapes. It can also work with pants, although sometimes the proportions are better with a short coat and pants.

Decisions, decisions!

One thing I will say -- it looks amazing!!

As fashiontern said, it probably will not drastically affect the fit of this coat. It will more affect my current wardrobe which is already on the big side and does not need much more to become too big.

I would wear it mostly to work. I have very short commute, 2 stops with the public transport where I usually don't even sit.

smittie, this is great help. This is exactly what I have my doubts about. Is this classic enough to last me as a Burberry coat should and is it even practical? Will it get dirty because it is very close to the floor. And on top of that is my transition when I am not sure if I will stay this size, loose more or gain back? Maybe not the best time to spend on such high ticket item?

It is gorgeous. Love the fit with/without blazer. I assume that this wil work at your current weight and lower?

I think this is a good classic trench coat colour. I think trenches always look best in this colour (although I do have a navy one, but it is inexpensive).

I am wondering whether the length is a flash in the pan (even though I too think this dramatic length and looks amazing).

I feel like maybe you need to have been dreaming about this length for a while to buy it (but I only say this because I often make mistakes by switching what I want while in the store, and then getting burned).

I just wonder, for such a high-use item, whether the practical 3/4 length would be better for every day wearability.

I'm sorry. I'm getting the impression I'm no help!

Bottom line: this is a gorgeous length and fit on you, and it's up to you to decide whether it will work for you.

For the longest time my husband wants to buy me a Burberry trench coat. Well, today we finally went to a shop to try one on. I wear trench coats a lot and was looking for a classic knee length style. But my husband really like this one which is extra long. To be honest, I like it to, it is more elegant and dramatic then the knee lenght one. But is this classis and versatile enough? It is a lot of money for me and I don't want to make mistake. I need your imput about the length and color. And of course, size and fit. The last two pictures it is buttoned with the blazer under it, because this is how I need to be able to wear it too. It is the last one in the store and I reserved it until Tuesday to think more and decide. They did nit have a bigger size to try on for comparison. It does not feel small or constricting but how does it look?
