Then you are right to move along with your search. I so admire your patience and persistence. It will surely pay off when you find your perfect cognac leather jacket. The new one you are ordering is interesting. I love the shoulder and elbow stitching. Keeping fingers crossed for you.

Thanks, Muffin. They do say that, but I'll admit, I'd rather be flexing my persistence muscle on something other than just finding a jacket. :)

El Cee, I thought about trying the size up, but I suspect it would fit sloppily, and since hubs doesn't like the color, it didn't seem worth it.

Jenn -- It sounds as if you have a preference for the slimmer scuba style fit over the moto option in terms of figure flattery. Is it possible to try the Wilson's scuba jacket in a size up? This might resolve what Angie terms the "front coverage" issue, although the back fit might not be as good if you did that. Hard to know without a try-on. The new option you posted might fit the bill as it is the scuba cut.

I think I prefer the fit of the second, lighter one. The arms are a little shorter and there is a straight line in the front that is a little more flattering, to my eye.

Firecracker, I think it's that I'm pear-shaped and the Guess moto makes that triangle shape that mirrors the inverted triangle of my bottom half, so I end up looking diamond- rather than hourglass-shaped. I'd love a jacket that nips in a bit at the waist to mitigate that effect, but most of the ones I've tried don't flare back out enough to accommodate my hips.

What is it about the fit on the Guess jacket that isn't working? I thought the main issue was the color on that one--more brown than cognac. But It just looks so good with your hair, with your darker colors. . . its gorgeousness on you really stands out to me next to the Wilson one. Whatever your DH is responding to, he is seeing you in real life, though, and we are just seeing photos.

Now that I see them side by side, I much prefer the one on the left for you. Both color and style. That new Find looks like it has great potential. I like the more rugged feel of it, the quilted elbows for some moto styling, and it has the scuba style that seems to be working better for you.
Your DH's response is helpful, in that it suggests a continued search may be the answer.

Now seeing them side by side, I think that the Guess Moto has a better fit looking from the front view. But it sounds as if you were not fond of the deeper color. Perhaps continuing to look would not be a bad idea. Buying a good leather jacket is an investment and worth the time spent to find the perfect one.

I'm not fussed about the color working with my wardrobe. I have a closet full of neutrals, with a couple of burgundy pieces. Most of the color I do own is in my toppers.

They are very different colours, but I'd second Gigi's advice to try the new jacket with your preferred outfits and see if you like the resulting colour combos. If you love this jacket and can't wait to wear it, never mind about possible not-perfect-fit issues.

Here are both jackets I still have, side-by-side, along with a photo showing the leather colors together in natural light. Vastly different. Both were labeled "cognac," but I kind of feel like neither actually is.

#1 - Left is Guess moto. Right is Wilsons scuba.

#2 - Color comparison

#3 - Another option if I decide to keep looking, though it's a new-to-me brand, so no idea if sizing/quality would work out.

What do you think? Left, right, or keep looking?

(BTW, Angie, I had husband look again and he says he likes "color on the left, fit on the right," which, really, is no help at all.)

This one is my favorite so far. My only concern is the fit through the shoulders, which I didn't notice until JAileen mentioned it. I'm not sure if a different size would help that. Overall, though, I find it quite flattering on you.

I haven't read the above comments carefully, but I think there was some discussion about the color being neutral or warm or cool. I was always taught that brown was a neutral, but in practice, I have found that browns can be cool or warm and act as a bona fide color for me (others' experiences may be different). So if you decide to keep this jacket, I would definitely try it out with some of your favorite outfits and see how it works color-wise.

I know this is frustrating. I have been looking for a leather jacket for two years myself but haven't found anything. I'm determined not to settle. So if you end up not keeping this, know that you're not the only one in the leather jacket desert.

I asked about the colour because this one is quite different from the other colours you were looking at. To me a reddish brown is an obvious tonal fit with burgundy and aubergine (and the other colours we both wear). A yellowish brown creates more of a contrast and it wasn't as obvious to me how well it would work with all of "our" colours. So I would want to play around with it first. I did not mean to be negative, just particular! The jacket looks great. If I had the budget for a closet full of leather jackets I would take one in every shade of brown (including this one) thank you very much.

I hesitated to comment on this one also because of the colour -- it feels more caramel vs. tan/ cognac/ luggage. I do think this works brilliantly with white, cream, denim, navy, black, and charcoal. It will be a tougher fit with some others, however.

Let's see a comparison post between this one and the moto (if you don't mind).

And if neither is "the one" do not despair. I gave up on finding a blue leather moto for 3 years and then stumbled upon the perfect one when I wasn't even looking. I worried that it was "past due" if you know what I mean -- and that I wouldn't wear it all that much. Au contraire - it became an instant workhorse and I am glad I waited.

Ahh, yeah, I can see that, Janet. All my colors do tend to be pretty muddy. So I wear rust and burgundy and mustard, but never yellow! or red! or orange! And I do wear navy quite a bit.

Aww minimalist. Thank you! That was sweet. I'm glad you liked it! I should say that my husband would never straight up veto an item of clothing I wanted. When he says, "Meh, it's okay," and shrugs, though, I take it as a sign that's not something I want to be wearing often and keeping for years. I never thought of going to Etsy for a leather jacket, because I'm a little wary of buying custom clothing without any in-person measurements. I don't mind doing it through eShakti, because I know I can still return, but most Etsy sellers can't afford to offer such liberal return policies. I'll admit, though, most of my jewelry does come from other sellers, often through trades at shows!

You look like you're enjoying it!

If your DH downvotes this jacket, is there any way you could have a jacket custom made? I just fell down the rabbit hole of your etsy site. What beautiful stuff! Might not an etsy leather-jacket-maker be glad to barter, at least in part?

Everyone else: go visit Jenn's site!

Ah, I have your plums/burgundies and olives in mind, to me they are sort of "tempered" warm colors if you know what I mean -- the kind of warm colors I can wear, unlike really warm colors like oranges and yellows. And of course your black and grey and denim. Hard to tell in photos whether your white tops are warm in tone. Maybe I'm remembering your colors wrong!

Wait... cooler colors? Me? Am I totally misinterpreting my wardrobe? I thought I had basically NO cool colors, unless you count black and denim. Most of my burgundies and olives have warm undertones, and my whites are cream/ivory.

I had the same question as JAileen about the fit through the shoulders and bust. I think the color looks nice on you as it is neutral, but I understand why people are asking. I usually see you in cooler colors, but that doesn't mean this can't work.

The bottom line is really not what we think, although I understand the desire for feedback. How do YOU feel when you put it on? Can you not wait to wear it? Are you concocting outfits and excuses to break it out? If it makes you happy to put it on and goes with your wardrobe, then I say keep! If you have reservations, and the questions people are asking are pinging any doubts you may have, I say keep looking. It's funny, I find jackets even when I'm avoiding buying more of them, but have to turn the world upside down to find a dress or pants that get a resounding yay. We all have items that elude us for one reason or another.
