I culled everything and started with two trousers/jeans and kept adding to the collection every month! Then I lost too much weight and had to again go down the culling process! I think I am finally at a stable and desirable weight. So my pants might hang on for a little longer!

I've just been through this...I lost about 8 pounds last year from some health issues. I thought it would last but as I felt better I gained it back. Now some pants I bought last year don't fit.

I don't think we should go around in things that don't fit, but I sort of wish I had bought things slightly loose instead of fitting great last year. Then this year they might be slightly tight but still usable. I would say get one or two great basics, but don't go on a shopping spree until you see if it feels permanent. Of course, how do we decide that? Mine lasted a year but obviously wasn't permanent.

I think it's important to have well-fitting pants. If you have a good consignment shop, it could become your new best friend! If this weight loss is not permanent and your body settles into a new normal, there may be some more size adjustments in the future. A good consignment shop could ease you through those shifts without too much drain on your wallet -- and you could consign some of your old wardrobe, perhaps, to help offset the cost of new purchases.

I am also very picky about fit, so when I dropped sizes this summer, enough to make my pants look terrible, I started replacing. At first it was just a couple of pairs -- one dark bootcut, one skinny/straight. But... within the month I had a whole new set of bottoms (skirts, trousers, and jeans). I shopped at TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, and secondhand stores to keep the prices down. Of my too-big clothing, I kept my favorite pieces (enough to fill a large storage bin) and donated the rest.

If I didn't have the budget for replacing everything, or if I wasn't sure this change was permanent, I could've made two pairs of jeans work. My husband wears the same exact style of jean and owns 3 pairs that he cycles through all week. It sure makes things easier!

If you're pretty good about sticking to a laundry schedule, I think two pairs would hold you over until you are able to determine whether or not your new physique is here to stay. I would say try your local consignment shop or Goodwill. That way, if you do regain your weight quickly, you haven't invested too much money.

I think two well fitting new pair of jeans/pants are enough to start with, then you can wear one pair while the other gets washed. I don't think you need to replace more at once, I'd go slow and if you're really sure you won't gain it back soon you can always shop for more.

But I think you can also tuck slightly slouchy pants into boots, I do it too. Have you tried to see whether some of the too big pants still look alright worn that way?

ETA

Maybe try to find similar styles to the two pairs you wore most often before you lost weight in your new size?

This has happened to me multiple times. As I am very picky about fit, I always ended up replacing all my pants... gradually of course. I don't spend a ton of money on my clothes (or at least I haven't in the past), so I didn't mind so much seeing all of them go.
I have had work trousers taken in. Usually, they will be taken in at the center back, so this does distort pocket fit. I didn't mind that so much, but it depends on your tolerance for such things. Make sure you ask them to take the legs in as well if that matters to you.
Jeans will never look good after being taken in IMHO, so that's where I would spend the most dollars to replace. If you think the weight loss is temporary, I would start slow.

As many of you know, I have lost significant amount of weight . This ended up being on my waist , hip and backside.
Now almost all my trousers look slouchy . Even my skinnies (jeans) are no longer skinnies.
My Dh loved me in skinnies and now the trousers I have aren't exactly rear flattering.

DH hates it:) But I ignored him pretty much all summer and now. With winter approaching I see a problem. What will I do with these trousers/jeans and boots?
I donot think replacing all of my trousers is an option.I am not even sure if this weight loss is gonna remain as it wasn't intentional, just happened.

Even , if I replace, would a 2 pairs of jeans do? I wear lots of jeans especially during winter.

I like my outfits to be neat and crispish. Any suggestions?
