Kudos to you for doing all this work! I like them all except 4 & 10. Just not loving the fit and the pockets in the back on 4. And 10 looks like they pull a bit much on the bottom of your bottom. (Can't believe I said that).

I would love to see you experiment with some volume on volume. I think it would fit your style and might me nice in the heat.

#3 Goes nicely with your palette.
#4-5 Go nicely as well, but have fit issues. Re-evaluate after messing with the waistband?
#6-7 On second thought, keep these instead of #4-5. They fill the same niche and fit better. (Could keep #4-5 shortened for a different niche if you wanted.)
#8-9 The print is very quirky/you.
#10-11 Fit your palette and look good rolled.
#12-13 Print is quirky/you. (Okay, I just like seeing you wear quirk for me.) Also prefer rolled. (I really need to get around to wearing my cords rolled.)
#14 Not so much.

Have you tried Ann Taylor in newer straight legs or tapers? I think there are fits there that would work for you due to higher rise, more waist - hip difference in some of the styles( I still have to have mine taken up once i fit the hip , but you might wear a smaller size w/ o much tailoring or wear one of the straighter fits .)

I would ditch the pair shown in 4/5. I totally get the need for flowy linen in Texas, so I would keep 14 for the days when nothing else will do.

Thnx again Peri for coming back to clarify! :)

Thnx Deb: I'll try the wall trick too. What's funny is I checked my posture against a wall a couple of months ago and it lined up like how it was supposed to. But of course, I was thinking about it!

Thnx Dustt. :)

Ohhh, Aida, thank you for all of the commentary! In the summer, I have my Dansko 'heels' which are regular options for 6/7. I'll play around with the cuffs on the ones you're not feeling so much. I wish it was easy for me to find replacement trousers: these represent 3 years of looking and trying on who knows how many pairs. I'd even be willing to save up and buy a perfect pair or two retail & then pay a tailor the waistbands to fit, except I need a high rise (10-11" in the front is perfect for me & I love when the back rise is higher), which is almost impossible to find right now (although I know they're starting to filter back in, thank goodness) and I don't know of a good tailor here. I'm going to play around with sewing this year, so perhaps eventually I'll just be able to sew my own. </rant>

*stretches hands* OK!

#2 - These definitely have a nerdy length Because they are tapered they are OK but certainly not a conventional "good crop". The nerd in me rather likes these ^^ My thought: Keep.

#3 - Same type of length, but because the hem is wider I'm not totally sold on them. Cuffed? Maybe, that would slim the silhouette down for sure. My thought: On the fence bordering toss.

#4/5 - These I would suggest chopping up to clamdigger length (a bit below the knee), maybe with a banded hem to create a wee bit of poof. As-is I'm not a huge fan. My thought: Chop up shorter or toss.

#6/7 - I like these waaaay more than the pair in #4/5 if you are considering using them in the same role as pants. I have similarly shaped trousers, with this ankle length, and only wear mine with heels (which I know isn't a regular option for you) because they're just a touch awkward otherwise. Can these be peg rolled? I bet that's a fun look. My thought: Keep.

#8/9 - I like them unrolled, the slim line makes them look very Audrey. I also have similar black slim pants to this, which I wear with both flats for a slightly nerdy look and heels for a better proportioned look. My thought: Keep!

#10/11 - No surprise, I like them better unrolled They are ok but nothing special. If you need more pants, they're a decent option. I feel like you could find something with a fun detail, like how 8/9 are dotty. My thought: Keep if you need the variety (I know warm weather clothing can wear quickly), or replace with something more fun.

#12/13 - Fun and appropriately nerdy, I really like these. My thought: Keep!

#14 - Interesting option. The hemline is the part that gives me pause. I wonder if putting in a big cuff to make them, like, linen track pants would work? Maybe take the arm cuff off a sweatshirt or something. Something like these. Then you could wear them with the cuff pushed up a bit to play up the volume. My thought: Experiment with adding cuffs.

Whew! If you don't mind wider pants, then I think trying some proper wide leg pants could definitely be a good option (especially if you like linen). You can do some very interesting volume-on-volume with untucked tops there, as well as interesting proportions with cropped tops.

I agree with letting 4 & 6 go. The rest I think you can work with. As for the posture, Seeing you with your head down and slumped shoulders made me push my shoulders back. Do you stand against a wall pushing head and shoulders into it? It really does help.

Well, the ones I like the least are 4 & 5...they bunch up from all angles and aren't very flattering. I would toss those for sure. 6 & 7 are okay but other pairs you've pictured look much better on you so unless they have some really redeeming features I'd say let those go also.

Thnx Peri! To clarify, the ones in 4 & 5 are one pair and then the ones in 6 & 7 are another pair: you don't like either?

MG, you make me laugh! Yes, random fast safety pinning while trousers are already being worn, because I'm impatient to finish photographing already, doesn't lead to good results. I'll see about repinning/sewing them later: my sister got them for me as a surprise after I admired hers, so I'd like to make them work if possible. The pleats in 4/5 aren't ones I added, fyi: they came that way! I don't remember paperbag waists, but I've seen that style before & really like it (probably because I have a long waist). I'll undo my seams and see if the trousers fit otherwise or if they're just not right for me, because in theory at least I like them. Thnx for all of the reassurances & I'll look up desk yoga. I think it's because I spend a lot of my free time reading and knitting and sewing and cooking, which all involve me looking down too. Poor neck!

Mellllls, heehee: I'll be sure I don't use that one for my profile.

The only ones that I think look odd are 4/5 and 8, which are both issues with tailoring. Are you old enough to remember the paperbag waists of the 80s? That's what 4/5 reminded me of, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. As for #8, the way you have it pinned, well, um ... it looks like a diaper. Pretty sure that is a bad thing.

Your posture is not as bad as you fear, but that head down, shoulders up thing is sooooo common these days as we all sit in front of a computer ... if you search for "desk yoga" on youtube, there some nice, quick stretches to do during the day ... I should take my own advice and do them every day instead oh, once a fortnight or so.

Hi E! First, I'm sorry about the pain issues. Yuck I think chronic pain is the worst thing. It affects your mood and what you can do and just makes things dreary. My sympathies...I've got some too.

Now, pants...I like them all except 4, 5 and 6. I don't think these look so good on you. 14 is not the best either but I know exactly what you mean about heat and linen...if they are cool and comfortable in the dead of summer, who cares about anything else.

All the other pairs are keepers I think.

This morning I was tempted to go thrifting, but I'm on a consumption ban for a little bit longer, so I decided to use that energy & clothes focus to shift my closet so that the warm weather stuff is most easily accessible and the cool weather stuff is more towards the edges (I prefer rearranging to storing clothes elsewhere). In the process, I found myself staring at a collection of warm(er) weather trousers but at a bit of a loss as to what deserves a continuing place in my closet and what does not. Since I was feeling energetic anyway, I got out the camera & commenced to try them all on & take photographs to get YLF input!

Some notes:

I had no clue my posture had gotten so bad. I have joint and muscle and chronic pain issues, and while I had good posture as a teen, clearly in the past few years things have gone downhill. The profile shots were pretty painful for me to look at, and I almost didn't post them, although I generally have good body image. In fact I showed them to my mom & sister to see if I looked like that in real life (particularly in the midsection), but they said no. I suspect a lot of that thickness is a combination of my pelvis tilting/back curving and pulling my sweater up so y'all could see the waistbands. On the plus side, I'm now working on improving my posture, and I bet it'll help my health too.

I tried to keep the positions the same in each photo. And for the trousers I always wear rolled/cuffed, I took one of them at full length just in case that plays a factor. (I even measured my cuffs to make sure they were in the Angie recommended 4-6" above my ankle zone. heehee)

I don't care at all about leg lengthening. I do care about the rear view, and in cooler weather I only wear trousers that I like from that angle, but unfortunately as it gets warmer, I'm uncomfortable in very fitted bottoms. So I end up sacrificing the rear view in the name of not sweating to death, but if you think some of the looser cuts look better than others on my tush, definitely let me know!

Obviously none of these are styled, I just wore my current top & pulled it up so as to show all of the waistband: in hot weather I tend to wear waist surrendering lightweight blouses that cover the waistbands & often hit at high hip bone or a bit longer. Most of my shoes are flat but I also have a pair of Dansko sandals that are maybe a 1.5" platform. They're all fairly chunky for health reasons.

Forgive the wrinkles! Some of these have been folded for awhile, waiting for warmer weather, and I almost never feel like ironing. Clearly team RATE. ;)

I edited the pics of the darkest pairs to lighten them just to the point that they look like how they do in real life.

I have space for all of these, so I don't have to get rid of any of them.

For now, I live in a climate with about 9 months of warm/hot weather. I'd say for 6 of those it's too hot to wear skinnies, which is when I turn to this style instead. So I need to keep more than a pair or two! That said I also have a pair of denim cotton capris that work in somewhat hot weather & 2 pairs that would work for the hottest weather but are in my mending basket so I forgot to photograph them. So I could stand to lose a couple of pairs at least, probably more.

Trousers are a huge fitting problem for me as I'm long in the rise & have a substantial difference between my hip & waist measurement. And then when I find a pair that fits alright, they often bag out by the end of the day. At this point, I'm not looking for perfection, just the best possible of these options.

My style is a bit quirky & nerdy, so it's fine if the trousers are bit 'square,' lol. Also, I don't have any dress codes to worry about.

My feelings aren't easily hurt so feel free to be as critical as you want, just as long as you forgive me if at the end of the day I decide I still like the clothing despite its flaws. ;)

Whew. Ok, so now on to the specific photos.

Pic 1: my tightest skinnies, which are so that you can see my actual shape & know what's me & what's the trousers in the rest of the photos. Consider them a baseline. ;)

Pic 2: my favourite trousers, as they never bag out & are super comfortable (just missing pockets). I will cry if you take these away from me, even though I know they're in a weird grey area of length & are too tapered to roll/cuff.

Pic 3: a medium grey trouser that I came across in February & was so excited about! They seemed to fit perfectly in the dressing room, but now I'm not so sure. They're nice quality (Piazza Sempione) but no pockets & do grow a bit during the day. They are very comfortable though & the colour/cut seems sophisticated. I should have taken a pic with them rolled a bit!

Pics 4 & 5: I like how these have a carrot shape and pockets and are very lightweight, but I took in the waistband last summer & clearly I've gained some weight since then. Eek to those views, both front and back! lol I can let the waistband out & see what happens, as these are clearly not wearable at the moment. The front rise is a bit low for my tastes but the back rise is higher.

Pics 6 & 7: These have pockets too & don't bag out too much. Do they and 4/5 fill the same role? If so, which should I keep?

Pics 8 & 9: These are navy with woven polka dots. I need to take the waistband in, so I quickly safety pinned them for the pics, which is the source of the odd vertical wrinkles in the front rise area. Clearly I shouldn't take them in there! They have pockets.

Pics 10 & 11: I thrifted these for when I went to the Amazon last year (& then ended up not taking them), but I thought it might be fun to try the relaxed/rolled chinos look. Is it for me? They have lots of pockets.

Pics 12 & 13: These are a medium blue with a darker 'blue willow' type of pattern on them that I love. They definitely grow during the day and have no pockets.

Pic 14: These are 100% linen so I figured if they didn't work I'd turn the fabric into handkerchiefs. I could dye them. I thrifted them maybe three years ago when all I had were formfitting skinnies & I needed a modest pair quickly, but I've never really worn them except for that one event. I forgot to take a rolled up photo. Do they have potential or not so much?

And there you have it! Thoughts? Do I have a decent collection or should I be actively hunting for replacements? Do you see obvious duplications/holes? I've stuck to tapered legs because I wear waist surrendering tops & flat shoes, but maybe I should try wide legs & go volume on volume? I definitely won't tuck in tops during the summer, as breeziness is my top priority. I do wear dresses but I almost never wear skirts during the summer, because I like skirts with fitted waistbands, which gets too hot, or with fitted tops, which are also too hot, so I wear trousers & shorts quite a bit. Anyway, what with fluid fit becoming more common, and all of my trouser fitting woes to begin with, I feel a bit clueless as to what looks alright and what doesn't anymore.
