I don't know that much about proper rise fit, so hopefully it is good.

I wondered if the rise on the trouser jean was right. But I honestly can't see it too well, so if it feels good then it probably is good!

Thank you for your input, Emily. I like the picture you linked to. I'm not after casual; I almost always prefer to be smart casual. Thank you about the hair!

To my eye the jeans are looking baggy rather than trouser-y. You're still super cute in them, but very casual. #1 is what I would consider a trouser jeans - they are built more like dress pants, as opposed to a traditional 5-pocket jeans style - and have a very dark denim wash with very little colour variation. If you are looking for a pair of jeans with a for casual wear that aren't bodycon, I think a pair of bootcuts that fit perfectly would fit the bill rather than a trouser style.

The cords look like an alright fit, especially through the thigh/leg. The wrinkling at the crotch suggests that either they are a bit snug across the hips or the rise might be too short, maybe this is why you feel self-conscious in them?

Unrelated: I think your hair is amazing.

Diana (& Suz) - I've never liked dress pants, unfortunately. I have tried on light fabric khaki or denim flares, and really liked those (ease of movement, somewhat retro).

Rachylou - That's what I thought. The jeans might look better in motion, or I might be deluding myself. Though, as you pointed out, bodycon top + more fitted jean is why I feel my bootcut combos are over-the-top. I do lean Demure Bombshell with pencil skirts, though; it's just hard to find a way to fit pants into the rubric!

Thank you for your expert eye, Suz. Your explanation does make sense, though I am posing differently (knee forward as if starting to walk) in 1 & 3. 2 isn't one of my good outfits; it just showcases the "baggy leg syndrome." If it's all in my head, I stand corrected!

Which trousers did you think there might be a rise issue with? The bootcut cords are a bit big in the waist for me; the trouser jeans fit well in the waist and are lower rise.

1: Trousers jeans, looking typical.
2: Bootcut cords with untucked top (bit short).
3: Bootcut cords with untucked sweater from 1st post, #2. To me the legs don't look as wide/short in this picture - what do you think?

Soo... the trouser jeans are pretty baggy, esp. in the back in the hip area, I think. Baggy *is* a look, but I'm not sure you want to go that baggy. Your tops are fairly body con, actually. Or to put it another way, you might want to find comfortable pants that follow your shape more.

I think trousers are pretty evil, personally. It is really hard to find a pair of ready made where all four panels that go into a pair of pants fit one's shape...

What Diana said about trousers, by the way. I don't wear trouser jeans, but I do wear regular trousers (made of drapier fabrics). Much nicer in my opinion.

Are you wedded to the idea of trouser jeans? I purged all my trouser jeans at some point because I didn't like how the stiffer jean fabric stood out and just looked wide rather than drapey. On the other hand, non-denim wide-leg trousers flow and move much more nicely in my opinion. Look for something in a softer, drapier fabric.

I think the bootcuts look great on you!

You look great in your bootcuts -- no worries about being too body con! I like them with the tucked shirt and belt. They have a slight 70s boho vibe.

I think maybe the jeans look slimmer in 1 and 3 vs. 2 because you've tucked your tops there so we can see your waist. WIth the untucked top, it ends at the wider part of your hip (and is itself wider than your hip because the fabric is loose yet stiff). So this gives the illusion of wider, shorter legs. In the other photos we see your actual shape. Does that make sense?

How is the rise fit on those? It looks as if there might be a slight pull?

I got these trouser jeans before learning about PPL, so I know they're too short. My question regards the fit through the legs. In #1 and #3, I'm standing so that the jeans look slimmer; #2 is how the jeans normally look when standing. For comparison, #4 is a pair of bootcut cords that fit me much more closely (in fact, I feel a bit too bodycon wearing them).

Is this just what a trouser fit is? I like the leg ease/flow when wearing trouser jeans, but WIW pics always look frumpy to me. In contrast, the bootcuts look good in pics, but I feel self-conscious when tucking & belting as usual. Your thoughts?
