Lisa I had some Free People jeans and they had a terrible slide factor. So they are now gone.

Thinking about which jeans have the least slide (and I am an hourglass like you -- waist size 2/4 hips size 6) they are:
- Habitual with curved wide waistband. Too bad this brand went out of business.
- Rag & Bone skinnies in Kensington wash. Best. skinny. jean. ever. Period. Worth paying full price (I have them in 2 sizes)
- True Religion Cameron boyfriend jeans (no longer being made, the Audreys don't fit me as well).
- Uniqlo Japanese Denim slim fit tapered jeans. Wow, cannot tell you how great these are for only $40. I'm going back to a store next week, if I find them again I will post about it.

Sorry Una I think I've derailed your thread!

I don't have these particular jeans. but EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY pair of jeans with spandex in them (except NYDJ for some reason) I can pull off without undoing the zipper or button by halfway through the day. It doesn't seem to matter what size I buy, it's the fabric content/blend that's the culprit in my opinion. GAP Girlfriends, BR Premium denims, Free People denims - all new this year, and all are useless in terms of keeping themselves up on me. I'm really hourglassy so waistbands never come close to fitting anywhere on my body in a pair of jeans but that's not the issue - I know it isn't. 100 % cotton real denim just doesn't do this. Can you tell this really really bugs me ? :)

Wow, Denise, thank you for this! I remember that thread of yours and was thinking of it. I, too, have had fewer problems with slide in the years since, and in my case the reasons overlap but aren't identical: I've also had fewer issues with having to push my pants down on my calves when I stand up. This probably wouldn't be an issue for you, Una, because you have really slim calves, but I used to find that a lot of skinnies would stick to my calves when I sat down and then my pants wouldn't go back down into place when I stood up. Despite in some cases wearing super skinny jeans this has not been the same problem for me lately. My own theories:

I wore more all-cotton looser BF type or slouchy skinnies in these years. (To Denis'e point).

I wore jeans with booties more often than I wore pants tucked into tall boots. In my case the tall boots seem to contribute to slide. Looser moto boots are okay, but if it is snug at my calf and I am wearing snug boots over the calf as well, when I walk, the pants creep down.

I wore more belts (see #1) and got a Hipsi flat profile belt for when didn't want bumps.

Mid to higher rise jeans don't seem to slide down as much as lower rise ones on me.

But I still have a couple of pairs just like you describe. My light plaid Kuts I bought a size up for extra looseness -- and wow, do I wish that I hadn't done that. Even with a belt they tend to feel sloppy.

I started a thread about this 3 some years ago.
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....slide-down
It seems to happen with all body shapes!

I have a lot less slide than I used to and I think it's because I now:
-Almost always wear a belt. I love the basic belts from Madewell. My other source for belts are J Crew. The Madewell leather is good and it molds to your body in a comfortable way.
-Wear more loose fitting jeans than I used to, where slide is less likely to happen but a belt is even more essential to keep the pants in place. Of course this flies in the face of your Kut issue, which you sized up in to begin with.
- Wear a lot of cropped and ankle skinnies. I have a theory that, when wearing bootcut and longer stacked skinnies, the weight of the fabric as well as friction from walking pulls down the pants even more. I almost never get slide with shorts, even knee length shorts. So I think there might be something to my weight theory.
- Wear higher rises that stay up better to begin with.
- Let go of jeans that slide badly (if the belt doesn't fix it). I purged a pair as recently as a month ago.

A lot of jeans makers are now using better materials as well. They have their own names for it, Resolution, Stocking fit, Ultimate Fit etc. The two most recent fails were cheaper jeans (Kohls Vera Wang, and a pair of made-for-discount channel Paige Skylines I got at the Rack).

As you can see I have given a lot of thought to this issue as I wear jeans every single day, for leisure and for work. In spite of their flaws, jeans are still my #1 clothing choice and the basis of my wardrobe.

I suggest you wear a belt and just enjoy them until they truly drive you nuts. Then move on.

I have the exact same problem as Parsley. With. Every. Single. Pair. of. Pants! UGH! But then of course I'm built like a board. Double UGH!

When I want to wear an untucked top and I don't want to emphasize the only part of me that does stick out (unfortunately that would be my belly and not my boobs, lol) I wear a flat belt:
http://www.amazon.com/Beltaway.....?s=apparel... and it helps keep my pants at a respectable location on my body.

A couple of fixes that have worked for me; (warning, they involved needle and thread)

Hand sew cotton twill tape to the inside of the waistband. This takes out all the stretch and prevents the waistband from growing. I do this with all my NYDJ jeans that I otherwise love.

Open up an inch or two of the inside waistband where it attaches to the pants at the side seams and insert some strong elastic the width of the waistband, from one side seam to the other. Adjust it to fit your waist. attach the ends inside the waistband. Sew the elastic down vertically on both sides of the waistband then re-sew the part of the waistband you opened upon the inside. This can look funny when you first do it, but when you are wearing the pants, the elastic stretches out and the waistband appears to be smooth with no gathers.

Hopes this helps.

I think you nailed it, Parsley. I can slide off or shimmy out of most pants that way, stretchy or not. But these do it on their own, and sizing down may result in muffin.

Don't know about those particular pants, but speaking as someone with no butt to speak of, I have that problem all the time.
My salesperson at Nordstrom tried to tell me that if I could take my jeans off without unfastening them they were too big. But there is NO size that I can't take off without unfastening them! Eek!
My sister, who is more of an hourglass never has that problem.
So I do think that having proportionally smaller hips to waist does make it more difficult to have pants that don't fall down. I hate wearing belts, but I think it's the answer. Or of course you could have them taken in at the waist, but on me, anyway, that's more likely to cause the dreaded muffin top.

Whenever I read reports like this, the mysteries of body type and fit preferences just seem deeper and deeper. Is the pant not doing it on all bodies because those bodies are differently shaped to begin with, or is it actually doing it on all bodies but some people are less bothered by it/ don't notice it, or does it have to do with the size originally purchased in relation to the wearer, or what?

Is this like my own problem with leggings ALWAYS falling down on me -- a problem I don't have with tights, by the way?

I've had some jeans that did this, too -- especially when tucked into tall boots. Drove me crazy.

I do wear a belt with mine because I sized up two sizes so they would not fit like leggings on pear shaped me. I usually wear either my brown or black Hipsi belt which is flat and low profile.

Mine are a ponte-like material that stretches but regains its shape so there is no bagging out anywhere. Usually if I'm going to have a problem with pants stretching and losing their shape, it results in baggy butt, and the Kuts don't do that at all for me. By contrast, my plaid Jolt jeans *do* stretch and bag a bit (Aida has the same jeans and I seem to remember they stretched a lot on her).

I don't have these pants, but I have had this happen before with other brands. Very annoying! Can you take it back to your tailor and have him/her take in the waist a bit?

I got these back from the tailor (hemmed) and was so excited to wear them yesterday. Well, over the course of the day, the waist stretched and they were slipping down... I could pull them off without unbuttoning and could fold the waistband fully over once. Is anyone else seeing this? Everything else fits but I can't keep yanking them up. I sized up per the recommendations. Argh!
