Faith, I guess we're in the same boat, trying to figure out what to pack. It'll probably be a lot warmer when you go in December. I'm excited for you.

Thanks, Brooklyn, your feedback is super helpful. It gives me something to visualize. It sounds like Sydney weather will be very much like late summer here in Vancouver, Canada. I guess it's always best to pack a variety of lighter items that can be layered if and when necessary. We are definitely getting out to the Reef when in Port Douglas. We have booked a day excursion out to the floating dock. We're so excited.

Sydney you will be looking at top temperatures in the low to mid 20s (Celsius). It's a great time of year - not too humid and the start of daylight saving time (and longer days for sightseeing). I don't think of October as a particularly wet month but we have had a very dry winter and we are overdue for rain. And when it rains here it pours (tropical style) so definitely bring an umbrella and light raincoat or rain jacket.
Also Melbourne is notorious for its variable climate, so be prepared for that :)
Port Douglas is wonderful. It will be warmer there. Be sure to get out to the Reef.

We are heading over to Australia for the month of October. We have never been there before and have no idea what to expect weather-wise. We will be in Perth for the first while, where hubby has work meetings. The remainder of our time will be spent completely on the other coast in Port Douglas, Sydney, and Melbourne. Can anyone give us some idea of what we will need to wear/pack at this particular time of year? We realize that Port Douglas will be very warm and tropical, but what about the other locations? Any help or tips would be so appreciated.
