The trip had a few challenges with trade show logistics - so I had some stressful moments.</p> <p>But I hope it was worth it from a business perspective!</p> <p>The silk slip skirt only got one wear but I did enjoy it that night. The wool coat got worn once in each city but the coldest I was in Houston which I did not expect! I could have made do without it and if I do this type of trip again I will look for a dressy puffer or similar. </p> <p>It was fun to go to the ice hockey! The game was delayed two hours due to a five hour power outage in Columbus. That caused a few adventures too. </p> <p>Mission Control was set up as per the Moon landing - full ashtrays! It was a highlight.</p> <p>I am probably doing another trip in February so feel well set up. The advice here was useful re weather and especially the Architectural river tour. </p> <p>Staying with friends is the best - you just see so much more than in a hotel. We had a really great friendly hotel in Columbus and the service there in the power cut was exceptional. I put this in off topic as some observations will be non fashion related.</p> <p>Capsule review</p> <p>I felt appropriate for every occasion and comfortable as well. Most importantly I the work capsule went well - definitely a black base was practical and worked for me.</p> <p>My feet were comfortable - I wore my Adidas boosts and platform sneakers the most - but I played pickle ball twice and wore my oxfords twice as well. The only unworn pieces were my raincoat and a sports top - we didn’t end up dressing in our team colours. I went to two parties in Oklahoma and felt good too. </p> <p>Fashion observations</p> <p>In Chicago I was walking around parks or on the architectural boat tour and didn’t get to observe fashion. The conference was also people in medical uniforms or polo/ chino looks. I was on the dressy but not overdressed side. In Oklahoma the look is much more about flattery than fashion. Lots of skinny jeans, fitted tops, styled hair and heeled booties. </p> <p>Travel and food</p> <p>I loved the food scene in Columbus - great local eateries - independent and tasty! It is very hard to get the coffee I like in the US - but I am a coffee snob so there is that!! I was lucky to get home cooking in Oklahoma and attend parties in homes so this is a wonderful way to really experience a place. I am an adventurous eater and tried everything - some delicious soups and dips in particular!!</p> <p>It was heartening to see many biking and walking commuters in Columbus too.</p> <p>I was lucky enough to see the bridges opening in Chicago to allow the yachts travel up the river for winter.</p> <p>I did find the waste and disposable nature of the lifestyle quite upsetting. So many single use plastic items everywhere……..</p> <p>Shopping</p> <p>I purchased a few things for my sons and three things from Athleta for me. Some Brooklyn pants, a tank and a long sleeve tee. I didn’t check out any other shops except Costco and Walmart. The fresh produce in Costco looked great quality.</p> <p>Here are some pics!! Some WIW as well as shots of Chicago, Columbus, Tulsa and Houston - I only went to the NASA space Center in Houston so I can’t comment on the city. I did love seeing Mission Control. </p>
