We even have a cavern similar to what Staysfit describes called "The Grotto", although it's on the Georgian Bay side (Georgian Bay is is a "bay" of Lake Huron, but in itself humongous).</p> <p>I'll never forget being on an airplane back from London and as we flew into Toronto having the Brits beside me decide that Lake Ontario must be James Bay (part of the Arctic Ocean). Some of the roads are so close to the lake I can’t imagine driving them in the winter.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/trip-pics-of-my-own--inspired-by-janet#post-2147745 Thu, 08 Oct 2020 17:00:30 +0000 Staysfit 2147745@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ <p>Lovely pictures! &nbsp;As a teenager, my friends and I hiked the entire length of the Lake Superior shoreline park trail/Pictured Rocks. &nbsp;I think back on that and wonder at the amount of freedom we had compared with teens now! &nbsp;We also had our drivers licenses at age 15 in Michigan. &nbsp;(It’s 16 for a learners permit in NY and a full license often takes another year or more for some teens. &nbsp;Somewhere in the vicinity or possibly at&nbsp;Castle Rock there is a cavern that can be accessed from the beach along the shoreline trail when the tide is low. &nbsp;I have been swimming there several times. &nbsp;Among other things, DH and I drove along the shoreline, took a boat tour and then went to see many of the local waterfalls on our honeymoon. Despite the cold weather and some rain, was it ever beautiful this time of year!<br /> Getting there was a bit of a fiasco though.<br /> Plan A - We had originally hoped to rent an RV for a trip to Mount Rushmore without dogs. We’ve been short handed at work so I couldn’t get a firm OK for vacation time. As a result we couldn’t commit to an RV rental. Last minute vacation approval led to a last minute change of plans and<br /> Plan B - a shorter trip to the UP, but *with* the dogs. One doesn’t travel well but we were hoping he would be ok sitting with me in the back - and sedated if necessary.<br /> Fast forward to two days before departure and our reservation was cancelled because the RV had been in an accident that morning. Passengers were fine.<br /> On to Plan C - taking the dogs in our car and scrambling - successfully - for dog friendly hotels.<br /> Plan D - having doubts about possibly sedating the dog for a week. Had a major stroke of luck by working with a new coworker - on the day of departure no less - who has a daughter who dog sits and was available!<br /> So many beautiful waterfalls - some even roadside - and turning leaves.<br /> We had hoped to take a cruise at Pictured Rocks national lakeshore but it was cancelled due to high winds and waves.<br /> 4&amp;5 Estivant Pines in Copper Harbor<br /> 6. Brockway Drive in Cooper Harbor<br /> 11. Hard to see, but there is a rainbow in this picture.<br /> 15. Miners Castle at Pictured Rocks - not very close though.<br /> 16.&amp;17 Chapel Falls and the trail to get there.<br /> 18. Kitch-iti-kipi spring near Manistique. View to the bottom through the glass bottom raft.<br /> Such a nice trip, </p>
