I love the H & M shoes! If you weather proof them and are willing to toss them after a season or two, I think they could be fun in your wardrobe. If you want a "long-term" relationship, then higher quality is probably necessary!

I have heard that olive oil can restore the shine. First clean with a gentle solution. Might be worth a try?

Because of the patent process, I'm not so sure real leather is leather anymore, anyway.

rute, even for once in a while wearing? I have really good pairs of shoes (most of my shoes are really good quality and last me for years) but I don't want to splurge on the real Doc Martens since I don't feel it's a style that suits me that much... and they are pretty expensive for my budget!

I might try the coconut oil, so far the lip balm (vaseline) seems to work, I think it just adds the shine... but mine are no real leather so they cannot absorb the oils.

I actually just read that coconut oil can be used to polish patent, but have not tried it yet. I need to find out since I have a few pair that have rub marks too.

I have a two years-old pair of fake Doc Martens in 'patent leather' (aka shiny plastic)

The sides are not shiny anymore due to rubbing and they don't look very pretty. I just applied some lip balm to one of them (yes!! lol) and it seems to do the trick, it's siny again, but I don't think it will last that much.

Is there any way I can 'save' them? Mine look like #2.

Also, what do you think of the cute imitation in #1? They are from H&M. Any experience with their shoes so far?
