It's the only remotely trendy thing I own! No tutus, body harnesses, wedge sneakers, hi-Lo hems or anything else on the list.
I'll take my cue from Viva and be the woman in some small town, rocking the chevron and loving it!

Infinity scarves are not out where I live - the most trendy women in my office was wearing one last winter so it must be still out there in the mainstream. Plus I only just go one - from my (still) Secret Santa and am looking forward to wearing it this next (Aussie) winter.

I'm writing this before I read the other replies.

BF jeans--have already purged, don't feel cute in them.

Fake Distressed Knits, Body Chains and Harnesses, Peplums, Culottes, Two-piece Dresses--never wore

Wedge Sneakers--purged about three years ago

Knits with Witty Sayings, Big Floral Midi Skirts, Jersey Knit Infinity Scarves, Mullet Skirts, Blanket Scarves, Colored Mirror Sunglasses--never wore

Chevron--don't wear but would if I found the right one. A classic.

Shoes with the Fringe--never wore

Fringe Overload--I have one fringe item (a bag) and I'm not ready to quit on it!

Tutus--never wore, but I like them.

So that makes only two trends I'm actually over, BF jeans and wedge sneakers!

I hate it when someone says a certain color or pattern is outdated. I happen to love paisley, and will wear it no matter what anybody tells me. I don't like ditsy florals, but would never say they should go because there are people who look good in that pattern. I also have favorite colors and color combinations that work well for me.

Janet, me too! My wedding dress was also shorter in the front I love both high-low and handkerchief hemlines on skirts, my absolute favorite for them. I rarely wear the skirts/dresses I have without those hemlines any more, now that I think about it.

Chevron... is a classic pattern to me. Like dots, checks, stripes. Helen your sweater looks super! Definitely wear it if the pattern still calls to you. I have two chevron skirts (high-low, incidentally) that I will happily continue wearing for as long as they hold up.

Am I the only one who liked asymmetrical "mullet skirt" hemlines even before they trended? I had my wedding dress designed with a higher-in-front (below the knee) and lower-in-back (sweeping the ground) hemline, and that was 13 years ago. I find the lines of a gracefully angled asymmetrical hemline flattering.

Love the blog but don't appreciate these posts. As a fashion blogger I suppose her focus is on staying "current" and wearing "the latest". As a result some trends are in and some are out. I wear what I like and don't really enjoy someone telling me what I should and shouldn't wear. This kind of thinking doesn't promote individuality, the development of signature style etc. I think I'll go and pop my wedge heel sneakers on and go find that harness in the back of my wardrobe

My reaction to these "In" and "Out" lists is total disinterest. But, to be fair, there are many women who feel it is important to know what is trending and what has reached mass market status, and this kind of advice might be useful in figuring out what still gets a stamp of approval from a trusted source.

I'm not big on trends, so I'm not the audience for this kind of article. But I do think Allie's intent wasn't to tell anyone not to wear these items. I actually thought she was quite careful to state these were just HER opinions and to encourage her readers to continue to wear the items they owned. It seemed to me she was just warning her readers that they might not want to keep adding these particular trends to their wardrobes.

Ack, I am currently investigating a 2 piece dress, thank you.
And I still like me an understated peplum. I never could wear the exaggerated ones anyway, as they just don't work on me, but others do.
Of course it's hard to say something IS a trend if everything is an equal trend, so there's something to the "in" and "out" but no, I don't like the pejoratives.

I still am most interested in, if certain things really work for your lifestyle and body type, what are the OTHER things you can pair with them to keep current, or what is the "new peplum" . Because a lot of time the element of the things that work for an individual are very practical about fit, and good fit makes a good outfit, so you still should be able to build on that somehow.

Uhhhh, some of those things are trending BIG TIME, and others I think just recently became mainstream, so I don't think she's quite in the loop. I do appreciate her saying at the end that people should keep enjoying those trends if they want to. There are some trends on the list I personally wouldn't enjoy wearing, but I don't HATE them and I want them to be available to those who do like them. And the fashion industry can pry witty tees from my cold, dead hands. I've been rocking them for as long as I can remember and I won't ever stop. Especially because I've just embraced "witty" as an adjective for my style.

I mean, she says it's only her opinion and that she doesn't expect everyone to agree, so I don't see how it's harsh... I agree with her with most items; the knit fabric - not chunky/sweater knit, t-shirt like knit - infinity scarves have been everywhere and I'm OK with moving on. I never liked the wedge sneaker look because it was a combination of a practical shoe style with a very impractical feature. But then I'm weird about those intentionally jarring juxtapositions, like "winter shorts."

I am with Cerinda in being tired of rolled cuffs on every pant in existence - it works for some outfits and some body shapes but it seems like everyone in my vicinity has just taken it as an easy excuse to wear too-short and too-long pants and think that no one will notice.

Another peplum lover here! Most of the stuff on that list I'd never buy or wear. But peplums tend to flatter my body if I can find a good fit in either Petites or regular sized. Right now, I'm wearing a thin belt over a denim shirt to give it a bit of a peplum effect because for some reason it flares out at my hips.

IMHO, extremes of a trend (boulder shoulder pads, 6" stilettos, 4" platforms, etc.) can look dated quickly, but most of us probably buy more moderate versions so they have greater longevity. Also, if a trend doesn't suit one's body type and takes a lot of effort to make it work/fit, I think one is more apt to let it go more quickly.

I think this is your signal that if you love a particular style, then stock up now, before it disappears. Or, if you are petite, it's now your turn since it's finally hit the mass market. (But you can only get that in black & one other trendy color, sorry). :-(

I have a colleague that wears the oversized infinity scarves like nobody's business... it's not a trend for her, I think. I think it's her signature style. If you saw her wearing one, you'd want a whole closet of them too. I don't know how she pulls it off because though she is short like me, my neck is way too short for this style.

I still have my printed sweatpant jeans (or Sweans, as I call them). I haven't worn them much lately but I haven't given them up yet. I like them. And I still like BF jeans as well, the looser ones.

Meanwhile there's a lot on this list that I never cared for to begin with, primarily because it just doesn't flatter me at all. That includes peplum. I like the look, unfortunately, it doesn't like me. To me peplum is a classic, always in style look if you can pull it off and it flatters you. That it's a "trend" just means that you can find peplum in the stores. I think this post is saying you can find peplum everywhere so it's past peak for trends... if peplum flattered me, I'd be having a field day and stocking up NOW!

I didn't realise that body harnesses were a fad. I bought mine several years ago and wear it from time to time with black dresses.

I would love to see yours approprio.

I'm fairly tired of BF jeans; not because of the style, but because many women wear the ripped denim that makes them look like they can't afford to buy nicer clothes.

I'll wear peplums whenever I please, that's for sure. They are so flattering. They'll make a comeback if they go out anyway.

Not my peplums! I only agree with one: chevron. I've been looking at my chevron clothes hampers and they need to go. Not one more hipster with a potato stamp is going to be allowed to sell me chevrons. Lol!

Well glad to hear I have similar reactions to what's been said here. Posts like these grate me. What is it about Angie's advice that makes a difference. I think Angie is not as harsh, but if she was saying something was on its way out, I would pay close attention, lol.

I will take a look at the article later, Tracey, but I can tell it's going to annoy me. Every time I read or hear someone saying something is "out" or "over" I hear it in the voice of the most critical and judgey girls and women I've ever known.

Trends are trends. They ebb and flow. They take a long time to get to certain corners. Wear them if you like them on your body! You can be sure that some woman in some small town is also rocking that look and feeling amazing.
