It was warm, but not too hot; however, it was cloudless - so very very sunny. I really didn't see any of the trends being taken out for a spin. Maybe one maxi dress. Perhaps I'm projecting, but I felt people were maybe struggling a little on the fashion front. It's supposed to be "May Grey, June Gloom." The time is just not right for summer wear, but the weather is. I saw a lot of your more dainty thong sandals, mary jane sneakers, flip flops, skinnies & tank tops. The one maxi, two sundresses. Almost zero shorts above the knee, on either men or women. All jams/culotte length. I've seen birks around, but not fashion birks. And I've seen a few more maxis other than the one yesterday. Gotta tell you, seeing maxis on the street... it's not been working for me. I have seen some here and there wearing trendy Birk-inspired sandals.  Still a lot of skinny jeans, with ballet flats, around here.  I have noted that most women, especially --but not only-- in my age range, are opting for shift dresses rather than body con dresses, or even body-skimming classic dresses. I.e., dresses that basically hide the waist completely... waist forgiving dresses. Which makes me want to add more to my wardrobe. Not seeing a lot of pointy toed flats.  Maxi dresses are so popular here it's pretty much a slam-dunk. In more artistic crowds, raw denim is HUGE. So much so, I lost a night or two researching this online, but I don't think I'm going to bite on that one. I'll just live vicariously instead! Maxi's are everywhere both in skirts and in dresses... Flat sandals with bling in big showing as well... I almost squealed in delight at BJ's when I spied a woman in a black and white knee length sundress and red Birkenstocks as like you I've worn mine 3-4 times, but hadn't seen anyone else doing so yet... Even better that like me she chose to wear them with a dress...  Haven't seen the wide leg pants anywhere, yet,... Haven't been down to the Boardwalk at night, yet, but think they might have a showing there. I guess there's no issue with keeping them in stock in this midwest city. I'm not seeing many boxy fit tops here, either, except on high school and college students. Last week I ate in a restaurant near a large university campus, and it was great fun to see one trend after another worn by the students. Maybe as things warm up I will see more. In the meantime, I don't see many trends here at all. Some Birks,and other comfort sandals ,lots of cheapo thong sandal ( except for my co workers as they are not allowed per Dress Code), some mules,sling-backs,heels,booties. Name bags and frump outfits are seen often enough too .( and by frump I mean unkempt hotmess ,did-she-even-wash?, curlers,headscarf, ratty " loungewear" oh I'm on my way to the beauty shop and thought I'd go shopping first. Often accompanied with a how dare this be full price or the color I want NOW not be available .) Tanks ,camis, cutaway back tees,peplum tops,and some mesh/ illusion trim or type tops.shrugs and cascade cardigans. rabbit on "TRENDS OR NOT" https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/trends-or-not#post-1261515 Mon, 26 May 2014 19:15:30 +0000 rabbit 1261515@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ On hot days and at the mall - a lot of maxis and maxi skirts including hi-low versions.   Often with flat strappy sandals (the between the toe kind - not so many gladiators) or flip-flops, some platform wedge sandals.     Observing outside the diner window in the neighborhood today, lots of skinnies, jeggings, and leggings with pointy flats, flip flops, moccasins, booties, fashion sneakers (converse, asics tiger, New Balance).  Sometimes a knit mini over the leggings.  Looser tees as tops and cardigans or cotton utility jackets.  Scarves.   Springy cotton flared dresses with laceup booties.  Walking around downtown yesterday, basically the same thing.  Two notable outfits - a young guy in hot orange jeans with an orange and gold geometric tiger tee and a wide gold bangle bracelet and high-tops (he looked awesome, very fashion forward).    A completely Portland seasonally confused look on a young woman - knit wooly beanie with dark sunglasses, wool scarf, tank top, cargoish cropped or rolled tapered loose pants and flip flops - she also looked awesome in black and olive.  Ingunn on "TRENDS OR NOT" https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/topic/trends-or-not#post-1261505 Mon, 26 May 2014 18:53:16 +0000 Ingunn 1261505@https://youlookfab.com/welookfab/ Come to think of it, I haven't seen any birks out yet either. I suspect, if spring is any indication, that skirts and dresses will be popular,but not maxi length. Most will be mini to above the knee. People here will try to bare as much skin as is socially acceptable. It is just too hot and humid to wear more than necessary. So far, and we have had two hot spells, have not seen Birks, or any birk types, except on me!  Wore mine 3 times.  Did not see any in my Nordies either last week.  Seeing very few slip on sneakers  and was in DSW, Off Broadway and marshalls, and did not even  see anyone trying them on. All spring did not see many loafers either. The stores have a decent supply, but not many takers, or wearers.  no compliments on my two pairs either. Maxi skirts and dresses are everywhere.  they are so comfy and way cooler than pants, so this does not surprise me.  also seeing those wide leg print pants a bit, mostly styled with more fitted  sleeveless tops and sandals.  since I am not a fan of fitted tops, do not wear sleeveless will probably not wear them, but I am liking them on others. Thinking  I am going to be seeing more just below knee shorts, or are they called skimmers?  at least that is what I am going to be wearing, as I have been for a few years now.
