That's interesting Donna. I don't think there is much shift towards baby boomers in some ways- eg most fashion brands and magazines still use very young models, although I've noticed a few older ones occasionally which I find encouraging. But there is a shift towards baby boomers and the generation below in my local shopping centre which is quite a "flash" or "posh" area on the North Shore of Auckland, my city . I've lived here for 28 years. When I was in my 30s the fashion here was what I described as " old lady shops" ( I now feel a bit ashamed of this!) but the demographic has really shifted to many on-trend shops for my age and younger. I could shop entirely from bricks- and- mortar stores nearby, and I mostly do.

I'm kind of with Angie. I think the things that show up as fads will be brief and it won't be long before we see them again. Wide legs, skinnies, block heels, stilettos, it's all fair game IMO

I think trends that are practical to wear will be around longer and sell better than those that are ultimately impractical. I love the look of bell sleeves but not sucking my syrup off them after a meal. Tops and dresses that need a strapless bra or none at all will never sell well other than to the very young.

Baby boomers used to be a purchasing force to be reckoned with. But my sense is that as Baby Boomers retire, they probably aren't spending as much on attire. And Millennials are supposed to be spending more on experiences and electronics than trendy clothing. I'm curious as to how this will all play out.

I think it's all going to be around for a while. Fashion fads are a thing of the past, and in itself a dated concept.

I hope wide legs (both cropped and full length) stick around for a while, along with shorter tops (both fitted and boxy). I'm really excited about this silhouette shift, as long over lean has never been my favorite.

Is it just me, or is the symmetrical cold-shoulder already being replaced by a single shoulder cut-out, along with that Flashdance-esque off-the-shoulder look? (I'm fine if that's the case -- I kind of prefer the look of one bare shoulder vs two.)

I WISH low block heels and some sort of moderately round/ square toe would stay in style because sometime I just need a kind of pump shoe for a dressier outfit , or a special occasion business outfit, that I can wear for some hours. I need to be able to jump on a good- quality and most comfortable such shoe, which could be a bit pricey, and be able to wear it from time to time over several years without feeling like every year I need to change toe style or heel. And not only cost but shopping time and energy.
My feet are getting so fussy that I think I am at the stage where I will have to transcend trends!

I need a variety of shoes because I do better if I don't wear same pair 2 days in a row. Also fit is so tricky that I may wear a different size or style with sheer hose vs winter tights. I love refreshing the footwear capsule, but have to budget for it now that I have discovered some brands that " get my feet" . I try to watch for sales but have often found my sizes sold out.

Just thinking of what will be around a while and what will not.

Here is what I am thinking:

block heels-long time,,skinnies-not going anywhere for a while, crops-will continue to grow, cold shoulder-maybe another season or 2, bell sleeves-not very much longer, maxi skirts-gone, maxi dresses-not catching on, flares-maybe crop flares will grow--embroidery on everything-not concerned about longevity as I like it, and will keep what I get as long as things last or whatever.

agree or not? -also add yours-this is just thoughts-as I am not Angie or anything.
