Yep, returned yesterday and bought a tie-front striped top at Forever New.
Lots of floral around too I have noticed.
Also plenty of blue, which makes me happy!

I do like the looks, but I am really wondering if the cold shoulder and off-the-shoulder trends have staying power. Will they be even be around next summer? I avoided buying these sort of tops prior to our own (Northern Hemisphere) summer for this reason. I really like the tie front top you link to and can see that working well with your new white summer skirt.

Rachy - well it is summer here

Deb - yes I put the links in as examples for the non- aussies - I knew the Australians would know what I'm talking about!

Lucy - thanks for showing us your tops. Hope you get some wear out of them

Gigi - I think cold shoulder has been around for awhile here (as elsewehere) These are a bit different. And yes climate is hard. Right now in "pleasant summer" is probably the right time to wear the off the shoulder tops - but until recently it was too cold here too. And by Jan, we won't want anything with sleeves (which a lot of them have). And I wouldn't wear them outdoors because of the sunburn thing. Mind you I pretty much live in spaghetti straps in high summer when I'm not outside, which isn't much better.

Lyn - interesting - that you are thinking to return

Shelley

This one?

Yes, I have noticed the cold-shoulder and off the shoulder look is massive this season. I am not that keen on cold-shoulder for me and I have been there, done that with off the shoulder - which looks nice but is hell to keep on a person with narrow shoulders like me.

I have bought one peasant style blouse this season. A creamy top from Dannii Minogue at Target. As a petite it is difficult not to be swamped by fabric. I haven't seen anything else that I like or would suit.

I have noticed these trends too Anne.
I have purchased two cold shoulder tops from Sussan but intend to return them. Just didn't love them when I tried on at home, and I feel that they may not last more than a season as a trend.

Yes! I could find them all still online:

http://www.forevernew.com.au/r.....rinse+wash
I bought this one more for evenings in Brisbane (it's too warm already for in the day!) and when we travel to Sydney for 3 weeks in Dec, where the weather can be super changeable. I figured this one would dress up or down.

https://www.target.com.au/p/li.....p/59241201
I really like this one. It can be worn up on the shoulder as well, so it is ok with a normal bra. I've worn it so far a couple of times with a denim skirt and I thought it was very easy/comfy but still fresh. It's good quality for Target - I'd really gone off Target in the last year, but this one I liked.

http://www.katies.com.au/SLINK.....x?p6650816
I thought I could probably wear this for work too, as we get more casual leading up to Xmas

I am hoping all three will liven up my casual wardrobe a bit.

I've seen some cold-shoulder tops IRL, but I don't recall any totally off-the-shoulder ones. But that could be because I mostly hang out at the ballroom dancing studio, and you can't dance very well in an off-the-shoulder blouse, lol. But I am seeing tons of them in the stores.

It's interesting that you weren't sure that they'd be that great for your climate. I just bought one wondering if the weather would be too cool for it (we are entering fall), but maybe it being too cool becuase there isn't much sun is better than getting sunburned!

Thanks Brooklyn, I will check Saba out.

I have done a fair bit of summer purchasing already (dress, shorts, pants, bikini, cover up) but I do want a light weight cardigan (may have found one I think) for summer evenings, a new hat that is appropriate for the city (fedora or panama style) and I need a couple of belts too (which are always hard to get).

Yes so much black, white, grey, rust around - a bit of olive, navy and blush...

Yeah, I was looking at witchery new arrivals and it's all the usual black and white and grey with a bit of coral thrown in. Snooze... Saba has some nice colours at the moment - plums and pinks and blues. They have some tops in a slate blue, almost teal, that would suit you Sally.

I have noticed the off the shoulder and cold shoulder tops here in NZ too. I
agree Anne- possibly too many. Lots of peasant style tops too. Some nice shorts options- and some appealing dresses too. I also have noticed suede sandals which I am not sure about.

There are very few full length flares and bootleg jeans- lots of cropped and skinny styles.

I would love to see some different colours.

I am seeing a lot of cold shoulder and off the shoulder too. I had not noticed the ruffles. But definitely a strong boho influence. Lots of embroidered tops and dresses with puffy sleeves or no sleeves.
I am also seeing a lot of cropped wide leg pants/culottes. But not the shorter tops to go with the wider bottoms. Still the longer style tops for wearing with skinnies. This is a bit frustrating because it means you have to tuck, and who wants to tuck in summer.
Also suede sandals are everywhere. Suede seems like an unusual choice for summer. I guess that's part of the boho trend.

Deb - I haven't been checking out Australian blogs so it was rather a shock to me.

Lucy - despite my reservations I was certainly tempted too! I think my main temptation was that it was such a strong trend that it almost the only look that seemed recognisably uptodate. Why do you think it flattering? - I haven't thought about that much. I didn't try any on. My shoulders are one of my best features, and my arms are not, so I suppose it could work!
Would you like to show us picture of yours?

Yes, I agree this is the hottest trend in Oz right now!
I have mixed feelings
(a) i think it is flattering and easy to wear
(b) Like Deborah I'm already slightly over it, though I have seen it more in retail and on blogs than in real life. I'm not sure it will have a lot of longevity.
(c) It's not great in QLD because of the need for sun protection
(d) Despite my reservations, I have bought three tops - I desperately needed some casual tops - I'd been focused on work wear and haven't updated casual stuff for a couple of years and everything was looking v tired! I think I will flog off the shoulder all this summer and probably retire them soon after. Despite the fact I try and buy clothes that will last a while point (a) came into play....

Off the shoulder and Ruffles.

They are the predominant trends I saw in the shops this summer.
A very strong trend!

http://www.forevernew.com.au/m.....our=stripe

Here are a couple of examples (this shop had 147 off the shoulder tops in their online store!)

I'm not sure I'm ready to go back to ruffles yet and off the shoulder seems silly in our climate. I am liking the look of tie front shirts though (even though I had a very similar one in the mid 90s) and am thinking of getting this one
http://www.forevernew.com.au/j.....leach+wash
