The other pair I had ordered arrived in the mail today! I first thought the fit was better, definitely no cutting in anywhere, but it's because the rise is quite low, maybe too low. And the quality of the other ones was much nicer. The navy ones felt like they could take quite a beating, this fabric feels like it could rip the first time you sit down on something craggy. I think I'm going to get the navy after all, when I tried them on Friday it wasn't as noticeable anyway - I think it may have seemed more of an issue because I was generally a bit tender on Wednesday.

That's not really an option, Ladywone. The larger pair isn't just too big in the waist, it's too big allover. And alterations on this scale would definitely be expensive (if they are possible at all) which defeats the purpose of their good initial price point.

Could you have the larger pair tailored? Maybe that might resolve the issue.

Thanks Ornella. I had a look just now and compared the regular and petite size of a different model of the brand and sadly there was no difference in the rise, they had just cut the legs off. I don't think getting the regular would made a difference. That said, it wasn't such a big issue today when I tried the pants again, not sure why. I ordered another pair (different brand) with a similar fabric on sale which should arrive tomorrow. If that pair doesn't work out I might think about getting these after all.

Thanks Gracie, abc and columbine! I think I will definitely try the regulars then in case the test on Friday works out. I think they're good quality for the price point.

Agreed it sounds like a rise issue. I have this problem with lots of pants. Hopefully regulars will work instead.

I was thinking the cutting in the front was a rise issue, like FB said. Maybe the regulars will fit. Crossing fingers for you!

Yes, it does sound like the rise is short for you, or it has more fabric on the back side than on the front... gaping and cutting – no fun :( Hopefully you can try a regular size in another style to text and decide. The pants are really nice looking though.

Thanks Becky. I could go have another look on Friday to see if they have a regular sized model from the same brand to compare.

yes, it sounds like a rise issue (crotch length). I get it pretty frequently. Regular pants should fit the problem. Can you compare the crotch length of a different size in the shops? tha might help you determine if this brand does true petite or if they just cut the legs shorter and call it a day.

I don't have a pair of non denim pants at the moment I could wear in Scotland, the pants situation for this trip is rather bad overall. I really don't have the time to look for pants as long as I've looked for my jacket. And the jeans options I have are rather unsuitable too. My best fitting pants are either the bootcuts (bad idea in rainy weather) or the red or blue skinnies that I'm not too enthusiastic about paired with hiking shoes. My other pants all have a very BF fit right now. I can work with that when I create my usual outfits, but I fear with hiking shoes and a fleece they're just going to look like too big pants... And my fleece looks rather ratty, I probably should replace that too. Not to forget shoes... *Gulp*

I saw these trekking pants online and because I still have a 10€ coupon and these aren't as expensive as others to start with I went to the store today to try them on. I really liked them because the fabric is substantial (65% polyester, 35% cotton) and very smooth and soft, not the usual rustling gear pants. They are also available in petite, so they were PPL. The fit was the best of all the pants I've tried so far, until I did the sit down test that is. Very uncomfortable because the pants were gaping in the back and at the same time cutting into my stomach! Ouch. Do any of you know what's up with that? Is there a way to fix this problem? Sizing up resulted in way too big pants, see pic #5. I first thought the pants were just too small, but then I had that problem with every other pair of pants I tried on afterwards, even ones that were much more loose overall! It has to be something in the cut of the pants.

I just wonder if trying the regular size instead of the petite might fix this issue, or if it's something that isn't fixable. They didn't have the regular sized pants in the store, but they are available online. Of course those would need shortening and the knees would probably be slightly too low.
