Glad you had a good time! Kingfish is a great place - their fried chicken is amazing. Actually, you timed your visit just right - it's usually dry in the summer - you just have to be able to withstand some gray cloudy days!

Back from Seattle for a week and I am really missing that weather of yours! A high of 70 in June is just not what I'm used to. It was wonderful to wear cardigans and still be a little chilly.

We had a great trip, but sadly with all the coordination of family and family reunion activities I didn't get to do ANY shopping. H&M will have to wait for me. I did get a nice healthy dose of water via walking through the Olympic Sculpture park and going on a ferry from Edmonds. Delightful.

I never made it to the restaurant, but a wonderful family I met in the Denver airport (5 hours there!!!!) helped me figure out that it was the Kingfish Cafe in Capitol Hill.

We ended up at the Science Fiction Museum - something we don't have in OK at all. My husband and son are into Star Trek and Star Wars big time so that was a real treat.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. Seattle is a wonderful city. I hope to be back very soon (perhaps w/o family so I can just wander). And thanks for keeping the rain away. I can't believe how dry it was while we were there. Just a few showers.

Re: Sweet Potato Pie

What kind of restaurant was it? BBQ, Soul Food, fusion, vegetarian, etc? I know a few places that have good sweet potato pie and am trying to narrow it down.

Ah yes, a beach!! Don't have one of those in Oklahoma either. We used to live in California and I miss the water terribly. That's a must. I'll look up the Science Centre and the Odyssey museum too. And I'm always up for tacos so we'll head to Cactus. Thanks so much for the great ideas. Now if I can just remember the name of the fabulous restaurant I went to with a sweet potato pie that makes my mouth water in memory alone.

If you do want to go to West Seattle/Alki - you can take the water taxi over from downtown and there is a free shuttle that can take you right to Cactus. I live there and it's one of my fave restaurants! I'd also recommend the Odyssey Museum if you have kids. It's right on the waterfront and really fun.

Oh! You have to take the kids to the Science Centre and West Seattle/ Alki Beach is a must for fabulous views. Go have tacos at a restaurant called Cactus when you’re there.

If you can get to University Village, it’s fun for the kids while you peruse the shops.

I do not have a Nordstrom, Nordstrom's Rack or H&M. And I've been really curious to see what H&M is all about. Thanks for the suggestions.

A ferry trip is a great idea - perfect for my kiddos too. Thanks Sihaya.

hi Stylemama - if you don't have a Nordstrom's where you live, I would highly recommend it. Their flagship store is in downtown, walking distance from Pike Place Market. So is the Nordstrom's Rack to get discounted wear. If you walk around downtown, you'll see a bunch of fun shops including the relatively recently opened H&M.

For sightseeing, I highly recommend taking a ferry (you can just walk on on foot) to Bainbridge Island and back, especially if it's a sunny day. The views are incredible.

I hope you have a fantastic trip!

I hope this is not too off topic, but I'm traveling to Seattle in a few weeks and I know a few of you live in that area. I'll have a little time to shop and was wondering if you have some favorite shops that I may want to check out. Nothing too pricey, but it'd be fun to expand beyond my Oklahoma fare. We will be going to Pike Place Market for sure (not really a shop, but I got a fabulous ring there 8 years ago on my last visit).
