Angie, thanks for chiming back. I usually run cold but not as cold as you are so hopefully I will be fine.
Gem, you are kiling me - sunbathing in bikini in UK in April! And we had another showfall last week!
Aliona, thank you for the tips. I think I will risk the white jeans - after all they are meant to be worn and I like white. If they get ruined then I will look for another pair :-)
Inge, scarves are on the list - one wool pashmina and 2 fun silky ones to add more variety and color! (and I am so excited I have trouble sleeping now!)
jackiec and Elizabeth, nothing like an hour of desperation to make such discoveries (I was creating those London ensembles well after midnight on Sunday)
Suz, thank you for getting back. No need to apologize but I am relieved it was the lack of Internet and not something serious :-0 I will think about a silky blouse. The problem is that the ones I have are not that great layered because of the pattern (wide b/w stripe, animal pattern in brown and black). I need to get some better layering ones like you have. For the dressiness I am taking a gold and blck lace shell to layer over my white shirts (a similar one in my finds). The effect is quite dressy. My Gap kitty shirt and AT white tunic are quite drapey so they layer pretty well. I wish my suitcase was big enough for you!
Summer - oh well, virtual cuppa it is then!

Also late to the party, but wanted to say I think your travel capsule looks great. Spring in England is so wonderful, and especially after the winter we've had. Have a wonderful time.

ALso needed to chime in with Jackie... I had no idea there was a collections/ensemble option to play with!

Sveta, I am very late - - my apologies. I had no internet access until now! I think you have a fabulous capsule planned. My one suggestion would be to add a silky/ dressy feeling shirt/ blouse. I often like the way those feel layered, also, on a day that is going to be highly changeable.

I also second the suggestion for fingerless gloves. On the cooler nights in Israel I was really wishing for those. In our climate they make little sense but in this climate it was the back of my hands getting cold. (Then again, I think it will be much warmer for you.)

Also agree with Inge on scarves. I brought two and wore one almost daily.

Have a fantastic time!! Wish i could fit in your suitcase!

I love what you've packed, Sveta, and there has been lots of good advice given already. But I didn't realize there was an ensembles page!! Oh my goodness! I must have missed that - I must check it out. Thanks for the heads up. Your trip sounds so fun!! I can't wait to hear all about it

The unpredictable weather does make it harder to pack for city trips in Northern Europe, doesn't it. 6 to 19C is quite a wide range for me (it was about 9C here this weekend, but with a very strong wind and I was cold even with my Winter peacoat, merino wool turtleneck layered over a cami and a scarf -I should have added a jacket), but the mostly sunny sounds very promising:-)
I love your final capsule, Sveta, and think that you'll be warm enough because you have some cosy tops and a jacket you can layer under your trench each day. Comfy footwear is key, and you have that sorted too.
The only thing I would add is one scarf, just to be on the safe side:-)

P.S. I still need to get started on my London trip capsule. I'm so excited!!-)

Not much help as I think all your choices are so super stylish. Whatever you decide among these, you're going to look and feel amazing. I'd definitely take the trench. Looks great on you and will be useful. Love how your options all feature layering, which is how I roll when back home (I'm from Edinburgh though and our weather is more changeable). Only piece I might skip is the light coloured trousers. Again, maybe it's just Edinburgh, but I permanently ruined a pair of off white jeans last year. Could have been soot or oil in the rainwater, but they developed splatter stains that wouldn't wash out.

Thank you for your help!
Summer, I am travelling April 11-18. It is very encouraging about the rain :-)
Are you in London? If so and if you would like to meet for tea or something please let me know!
Diane, thanks for checking the weather for me! :-)
Angie, you are scaring me - "warm enough"...Hopefully I will feel warm in any London weather after Canadian winter...
Shiny, thank you! You convinced me: I am still taking 4 pairs of pants and jeans but I will add the 3rd topper ;-)
Rachy, Vildy, Vicki, Suz, Karie - thank you!
Carla - so interesting about the custom umbrella, thanks for sharing. A beret and a pair of gloves are on my list too!
Diana, all my jackets fit under my trench so this won't be a problem.
I usually travel with a carry on for 2 week vacation but this time I decided to indulge a bit in more varied wardrobe for the holiday - as Angie said " it is LONDON!"
I spent some time playing with ensemble feature (it is so useful - thanks Greg!) and created ensembles for every day. Visuals really help to make a decision. I used similar items for some of my old things (leather jackets, navy/white cat shirt) as mine are no longer available. I have included both shirts and knitwear option for each ensemble to account for possible weather fluctuations.

If interested here is the ensemble page.

Thanks for your help and hopefully I am close to the final packing now.

So far here is the latest packing list - let me know what you think!

When I was in London/Oxford last may, I think I wore my trench every single day. (all the Londoners were wearing them too.). There was always a chance of rain or wind. So I'd pick whatever goes best with the trench. Does your leather jacket fit comfortably under the trench?

What a wonderful trip you have planned! For the pants I'd probably bring one solid and one pattern, which really leaves you with the black cigarette pants and the houndstooth slouchy, otherwise you'd be bringing two navy pairs.

I like the cream leather moto. It goes with everything and looks like spring.

I think the key with the rest of your toppers will be what works good for layering.

DH and I were actually back in the UK in Sept. 2013. The April trip was in 2010.

In 2013 DS#1 was participating in a sporting event (we went over to a watch, then ventured further) however DS #1 wanted a souvenir of his trip. I suggested he visit...a 'brolly makers for a uniquely London experience. He did, and has a 'souvenir' that is very unique. Turns out a chap abandoned a high end purchase, in exchange for something more lucrative. (The brolly makers cut the brollys to the scale of the client). Turns out DS at 6 ft 4 in wAs perfect for the rejected custom order. He secured a dark grey umbrella he was able to use in London, and is a prized possession and souvenir of his London experience!

DH and I had a FABULOUS month in the UK in the month of April several years back. The only things we did not wear were rain gear! I have found that a leather jacket, with a trench that fits over top is all the layers that you need to stay warm. The leather cuts the wind, and the trench kept the damp off. Once things warm up, a single topper can be worn.

I managed with cotton knit sweaters and knit mariner t-shirts, a jean pant, and a black slim leg cotton pant. I also had one dress in a synthetic material that rolled so small it fit in a shoe, and was good for theatre and PM restaurant nights.

Funnily a hat (beret), and gloves or fingerless mitts can be a godsend. I especially liked the fingerless mitts on the plane. A pashmina shawl is multipurpose. A blanket on the plane and keeps the neck warm no matter what.

Chelsea boots, a ballerina (fashionable at the time), and a leather sneaker served me well. We are avid walkers, and public transport users so on our feet a lot.

Sveta, have a fabulous time. I love the UK. Have been 3 times, and look forward to my next trip,

My head is mush right now because I'm busy planning out packing for my next trip as well, but I was in London a few weeks ago and here is what I can tell you.

It rained, but mostly just light showers which quickly cleared. Even on the rainiest days, I did not even need an umbrella, but did need a hat.

Even though the weather forecast says it may hit 19, that will happen at the height of the day for an hour or two, then the sun goes behind the tall buildings and it gets chilly again. Layers are key -- as is a generous size bag that you can tuck the layers into as it warms up/cools down.

I think your booties will be just fine, assuming you can wear a thin sock under for blister prevention. Or a warmer sock if it gets colder.

I actually think you only need 3 pairs of pants, not 4, but I'm a minimalist. Two in the bag, one that you wear on the plane. I might skip the 4th pair of pants and pack extra toppers instead, because I was so envious of all the women wearing stylish jackets. Toppers not only add warmth under the trench should you need it, or work fine on their own if it's warm, but they change up the look of an outfit without needing a huge assortment of tops.

Merino wool & cashmere tops - will be great.

Don't forget to leave room for goodies to bring home.

I am on my phone. On the road to mother's. I will check in later but just quickly, white leather jacket was a winner for me on my last trip. Mind you the weather was cooler for most days. But light colour feels like spring.

I just had a look at my favourite reliable weather website Sveta and the forecast is even saying we may get pretty warm weather from next weekend also, especially in the south east. I think you're going to need an assortment of light toppers and sweaters. I think your decision to just take pants and not skirts or dresses is good as it make for easy capsule creation and of course, as you say, less shoe options needed. Ooh, the choices of topper is a tricky one...hmm, I love the mixed media blazer, and I also love the light Danier leather jacket as it looks nice and Spring-like. The thing is though, I love those checked navy/red pants and they may only go with the white jacket. See I'm no help am I??. I think perhaps pick pants first, plus tops and decide on toppers last. I stand by my topper choices for you though, I think, with possibly the moto as an alternate.

Very very stylish! I'd probably take the BR jacket and pants, and only one pair of jeans (the grey). Probably the black moto over the cream, considering those choices...

Your travel capsule is looking very organised, Sveta, and I think you've made good decisions, especially with your footwear. I hesitate to advise stylish you on particular items to include, except to suggest one leather jacket and one blazer for your toppers.

Temperatures are averaging around 9-14C at present, and this coming week is set to be dry. Are you travelling this week or next? Any rain is more likely to be light and showery - April showers! - rather than a downpour, but you're right to be prepared. Bring an umbrella to be on the safe side.

I hope this helps a little, and enjoy your visit.

I am on vacation next week and this is a great news! I am going to London UK with my Mom for this vacation - and this is even a better news.
The bad news is that I am completely stumped by the packing this time.
The weather is going to be much milder than here is Canada - for now they show the range from 6 to 19C and mostly sunny. I am still gearing up for the rain - it is London after all.
I am taking my trusty purple London Fog trench with the removable lining; it is it its 5th year and still going strong - pic 1.
This is my footwear: black UGG Chelsea booties, SE python Petties and JCrew cream oxfords. They are my most comfortable flat or low heel shoes I can walk hours in. UGGs are also waterproof which is a big bonus. I hope the booties won't be too hot for 18C in London...
This part was easy - now to the hard part.
1. Bottoms.
I decided do not take any skirts or dresses this time as with these particular shoes I like pants and jeans better. I have 9 days - 2 days of travel and 7 days of sightseeing so I decided on 4 pairs of bottoms:
1.1 Choice between black cigarette pants (pic 2) and straight leg trousers in shadow plaid in dark navy / red (pic 3)
1.2 Choice between my old micro houndtooth slouchy trousers (pic 4) and BR track pants in navy (pic 5). Navy track pants are more lightweight so may be better for warmer weather but may be too thin for 6C?
1.3 I want to take 2 pairs of jeans and these are 4 contenders: grey straight leg Gap (pic 6), light blue straight leg Gap (pic 7), dark wash skinnies from Madewell (pic 8) and cream BR relaxed skinnies or slim boyfriend (pic 9).
2. Toppers
I also want to take 2 toppers which can be worn on their own if it is warm and under the trench if it is chilly. I also have 4 contenders:
- cream leather moto (pic 9);
- mixed media black long blazer (pic 7);
- navy blazer from Banana Republic (pic 10);
- navy moto from Gap (pic 8)
I have easier time with tops. I am taking 1 cashmere sweater in case it can be cold, 1 thin merino t-neck, several shirts, a couple of long sleeve tees, a lace shell to layer over shirts...still do not have the final list but I am getting there.
If you can chime in with your opinion on which bottoms and toppers to include into my travel capsule it would be great!
Thank you for your help - I am going back to the pile of clothes on my bed!:-)

ETA: I spent some time playing with ensemble feature (it is so useful - thanks Greg!) and created ensembles for every day. Visuals really help to make a decision. I used similar items for some of my old things (leather jackets, navy/white cat shirt) as mine are no longer available. I have included both shirts and knitwear option for each ensemble to account for possible weather fluctuations. If interested here is the ensemble page.
