Thank you Jackie for your very kind offer. I talked to a coworker and they're willing to ship the clothes to the hotel for me.

Angie, I will look more closely at VB jackets towards the end of summer.

I’m in Van and would be happy to collect your delivery, Anna. We’ve not met in person but I was quite active on the forum for a few years and still pop in now and again. Suz is in Van as well. I have a trip planned in the fall (dates undetermined) but should be back when you’re heading here. I wouldn’t mind at all. Please don’t carry your presentation clothes on your Mongolia trip- I’d be happy to help you out. I can even drop them to your hotel when you need them. I live exactly between the airport and downtown.
Your Asia trip sounds absolutely amazing. I’m so excited for you!

PM shoot me a PM if you’re interested

I wonder about getting someone reliable to ship a day or two prior - as Rebekah suggested.

I think taking to Mongolia will be a pain-trip sounds amazing though!!

As in what to wear- I would be tempted to wear monochrome with your funkiest dress boots or shoes for the conference.

Sure you have travelling sorted but merino tanks and tees are great for sleeping, walking and look tidy too. And don’t smell too much.

Gretchen, good idea but theconference is in Vancouver BC, and Rent the Runway only ships to the US
I think shipping to the hotel makes most sense. Though I’ll be gone almost three weeks before the conference. I wonder if they’ll hold it that long

Alternatively, if you don’t want to mail your own items to the hotel, why not Rent the Runway? I tried them last year when I needed a cocktail dress for a convention and didn’t have time to shop. You can order before you leave, choose a couple options so you have sizing right. They will ship to the hotel, and when you are finished you ship back from the hotel in their packaging so there is no extra cost and you don’t have to worry about getting extra clothes home.

Yes to mailing your outfit directly to the hotel. Definitely. You don't need to drag anything extra with you, wasting packing space and risking loss or damage. I mean shoes for Mongolia and shoes for the conference are not the same. Trip sounds amazing!

Mail conference stuff to hotel! I mailed cross country skis and poles from Oregon to New Brunswick, and it didn't break the bank! You might even liaise with the hotel and have them steam/set up your garments for your arrival. That's what a consierge service is for! Have them set up a shampoo and blow out at a nearby salon, too. YOLO!

PS - I recall Janet went to a wedding in London, England and her sister - the MOB, had a lost luggage issue. I think it was M&S that set her up in an outfit better than what she had originally picked.

The vacuum pack is so smart! I confess I didn’t look closely at fabrication or anything or know what I mean by easy, but I *was* thinking the Athleta might be fairly easy for travel purposes. Maybe I mean emotionally easier, lol.

Sounds like an absolutely amazing trip. Hope you'll let us know how it goes.

I would ship my outfit, carefully packed with air pockets created by using fresh dry cleaning bags around items. They may still require a steam or press, but should do fine. I have had good luck notifying hotels that a package was arriving. I would not want to babysit the conference outfit while enjoying the photo trip; I actually don't think I'd want to see it every day while on vacation. But that could just be me... I think the risk of a package going astray on its way to the hotel is considerably less than the risk of shlepping it around.

Have a wonderful time.

If this is important for you to look your best, I'd go with the shipped box or garment bag to the hotel. I can't imagine dragging a full business outfit and shoes across the globe when weight and space will be at a premium and you aren't going to wear them. I think the price would be worth the peace of mind.

While I love Veronica Beard, I think it might be nice to have something like the Athleta packed when you are in Mongolia in case you encounter an unexpected situation where you need to look presentable. Although, I would personally feel awkward asking an acquaintance to retrieve or hold a bag of my clothing, I might still consider this option. The worst that could happen is they would say “no”, but I think most people would say “sure, no problem!”....I want to think physicians are a helpful group....

Ooh Diana, good idea on the vacuum sealed bag. Because yeah I predict my stuff will get stinky.
Conference is in a fancy hotel so I'm pretty sure they can press things for me
Rachy, there is an optional one day horseback ride. I think it's in one of the national parks.

I’d bring the conference outfit (prob just a wrinkle resistant blazer + trousers + a shell) in a vacuum sealed bag. That should reduce the size a lot and keep it from getting dirty/smelly from the gear. If you have some kind of squishy flats (like Rothys or Tieks) you could probably vacuum pack those too without damaging them. You can probably have the hotel press the outfit if you need when you arrive.

I remember you mentioning this trip a while ago. It sounds so cool! I’m glad you are getting to go.

Wow! What an amazing adventure you have planned!!!

If you want to try to carry conference appropriate clothes with you, here are my suggestions:

I bought the Departure blazer from Eddie Bauer and it is fantastic. Very lightweight and very forgiving. I wear it to work as a lightweight cardigan substitute for summer. https://www.eddiebauer.com/pro.....#038;size=

Team this with the Athleta meridian wide leg pants (https://athleta.gap.com/browse.....id=1059471 ) or the TriBeCa crops (https://athleta.gap.com/browse.....id=1059471) in a complementary color (maybe the cinnamon??) and a pair of flats - would that be dressy enough for the conference? The EB jacket is exceptionally packable as are the Athleta pants.

I tend to gravitates to both Athleta and EB because of the tall sizes they offer - I’m not crazy about EB pants, otherwise I would suggest that option.

My sister traveled to Japan with the Tribeca crops and loved the ease and versatility.

As for accessories, scarves are lightweight and very packable. So for the conference; black blazer, black tee, cinnamon crops, scarf that ties colors together, flats - how does that sound?

It's not my friend. He's the surgeon that heading the conference. Though we are on good terms.

Other ideas I've found
https://www.veronicabeard.com/.....?color=Red

Maybe I'll splurge on a Veronica Beard jacket.

I would say send a bag with your friend. It would only have to contain your presentation outfit. Is he/she driving or flying? If driving, a neat garment bag would do the trick and look less like you’re sending a load. If flying, it might be an imposition, and then I’d probably not.

Ooh boy this is a doozy for me.
So over a year ago I put down a deposit for a photography tour in Mongolia. It starts at the end of September, and goes for 12 days. Including going to the Golden Eagle Festival
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.....e_Festival
I decided if I was going that far away from the US I wanted to see a bit more of Asia. Originally I wanted to fly to Beijing, do the tourist thing for a few days and get over jet lag, then take the Trans-Mongolian train to Ulaanbaatar. Unfortunately the train schedule doesn't work with the date I need to meet up with the group.
So I decided to spend about a week in Beijing, then fly to Ulaanbaatar.
But here's the kicker. After the tour ends in Mongolia, I'm flying directly to Vancouver, BC (via Seoul) to present at a conference. It's the same conference I presented at last fall, mostly surgeons. The doctor that is running the conference this year is the same one I presented for last year. I told him the travel plans (he was like why Mongolia?), but said he'd put me on schedule late in the day, which is about 1 1/12 days after I arrive.
The Mongolian photo trip packing list is pretty much all gear. The weather appears to be in the 40-50's F (8-12C), and below freezing at night.
I have these hiking tights already in black

https://www.rei.com/product/12.....hts-womens

These are ridiculously soft and comfortable (in heather grey)

https://www.rei.com/product/11.....nts-womens

This hat in black
https://www.pendleton-usa.com/.....;cgid=W900
And this big backpack for camera gear and spare clothes
https://www.rei.com/product/14.....ack-womens (tour group recommended 30-50L) Extensive phone conversation with very helpful REI person and we settled on this, and part of it detaches, to be a smaller bag.
And am collecting other gear from the REI sale.
Have fleece, goretex jacket, hiking boots
https://www.rei.com/product/85.....ots-womens
The weather in Beijing will be much warmer, 70's (mid 20's C).
Considering ordering this
https://www.rei.com/product/14.....lyra-skort
And using quick dry shirts, that can work as under shirts in Mongolia.
But then there's the conference in Vancouver. I could conceivably send a small bag with the doctor, but that might weird and asking too much.
I could buy something in Vancouver, but that is highly risky.
I could have a friend ship a box to the hotel in Vancouver (but $$?)
Or I could try and pack something that doesn't take much space. Altheta has these pieces (finds below). I could probably use the pants in Beijing. But maybe the skort with tights could work, ableit the skort is kinda short. And oh crud footwear
I'm open to all suggestions, including color schemes.
