I just traveled to a warmer, but not tropical destination. Dressed for the destination climate on flight out and brought warm under layers that are super lightweight on the trip. Heading home, I put them on and was more comfortable when I landed without a heavy coat. I find planes chilly and am happier with my feet covered in comfortable shoes.

Have fun!

Thank you for your replies.
I like the ideas, especially the lightweight trackpants, although a skirt might be nice too. Now I need to see what I have in my closet that might work.

I wear a dress or skirt with leggings for the cold part of the trip and the plane, then I remove the leggings in the airport bathroom at my destination (and vice versa on the way home). I usually wear oxfords or similar flat shoes that look OK both with and without socks/leggings. Or just stash a pair of sandals in your purse...

As for coats, I usually just bring a light jacket and suck it up and freeze a little on the cab ride to the airport... I hate having to lug a big heavy coat all around when I'm only wearing it to get to and from the airport. I always bring a pashmina or similar wrap for the plane as well.

I tend to wear really lightweight pants, so I'm covered but not necessarily warm when I leave, and am okay when I land. Something like silky track pants. On my feet, usually sneakers. I always have a change of clothes (including flip flops or Birks) in my carry on, so that I can go to the pool if I have to wait for my room. That way I can change in airport if necessary as well.

I think the easiest would be a skirt with tights or leggings you could just take off when it's warm and then just go with bare legs. And because the shoes need to be worn with bare legs or tights I'd wear something like Mary janes or perforated oxfords or something similar.

Hello,
In late November I'll be traveling from from dry and cool (or possibly freezing ) Colorado to the hot and very humid Virgin Islands.
I've done this trip many times before in fall and winter and I never know how best to dress for the trip.
Tops are easy to layer and take off as needed when changing flights and climate zones in Miami and San Juan.
My big issue is, what kind of bottoms and shoes do you wear for this kind of trip?
It's an overnight flight, so comfort is important.
In the past, I've arrived in the Virgin Islands sweating and hot in jeans and closed shoes and have returned to Denver in lightweight clothes and sandals to find snow on the ground.
Any brilliant ideas?
Thanks!
