The tuxedo pants look pretty good to me. They fit into the rest of your choices well, and fit your figure nicely. I really like them as they give a little updated touch to the rest of your classic and simple pieces.

Anyone else have opinions on the tuxedo pant lengths? I tried them on with a random pair of flats, and still can't decide what I think. Should they cover more of the back of the shoe? Or be an inch shorter so my ankle bone is fully exposed?

rizamel - unless you have space concerns, travel in jeans and don't sweat over it.

Daria - I was thinking the same thing. One possibility might be traveling in the tuxedo pants (or whatever bottom I choose for that day). I'd have time to refresh them by steaming or ironing before wearing them again midweek. Not as comfy as traveling in jeans, though, and it's a long day of travel since I have a connection.

It looks like a good capsule.. I was going to say that 4 pairs of bottoms for 5 days is a bit of overkill, but then I realized that jeans were for travelling only. I agree that colors look a bit dark-ish, maybe add a lighter/brighter top or topper? I really love the tuxedo pants on you, cannot comment on the length though. :)

crutcher - I'll really be traveling all day in this outfit, so comfort and warmth (I find most planes really cold) are my top priorities. But thank you for the color suggestions. I am considering different options for this day.

Olivegreen - My industry is professional, but not corporate, and is predominantly female While the issues you allude to do exist, I suspect it's not at the same scale as what you've encountered. I think as an industry, we maybe lean too much toward casual attire. This is a leadership conference, though, so business casual is definitely the right way to go. I'd probably look overly formal, though, if I showed up in a suit.

Laura - I have a number of pendants, but I suspect that we'll have some sort of nametags or lanyards. My experience is that necklaces tend to get stuck on them. I might wear some longer earrings (rather than studs or huggies) this day to add a little character to the outfit. I had been wondering about the tuxedo pant length for the reason you mentioned; I don't have a good eye for tapered pants. I don't think I have time to have them altered, nor is there enough fabric to let them down, but I could return them since they are new. Then I would have to find something else to wear this day--not a big deal. I have wide leg tweed trousers that I often wear with this shirt.

I like the color combos and I think you've got a nice start here. I prefer the white shirt tucked for a conference. What about a long necklace with outfit 2? Otherwise it's quite plain and a necklace or scarf would give the eye somewhere to go.

I find the length of the pants neither here nor there - on the model pic they are cropped but on you they are neither cropped nor full length. My preference would be to let down the hem about an inch, assuming there's enough fabric in the hem to do that, especially if you plan to wear them with heels like the wedges in your pics.

I used to survive these things with very clean and classic pants, two blazers, and several highly colored button downs and scarves, with pins or statement jewelry. When we broke out for at least one evening dinner away from hotel, I would wear the tops with comfy jeans. The jeans were also my travel outfit coming and going, with a travel sweatshirt that doubled as pyjamas. The sweat pants were nightwear also, lesson learned after one nighttime fire alarm. Plus you can order room service and not flash anyone.
The reason for the colorful tops and jewelry was partly to pull focus from the plain pants or skirt, which i would get two days each wear out of, and partly because as a presenter the poor people have to stare at you and something pretty is just having mercy on them.
I love your trench and the footwear, and always a fan of no iron button downs. I took fashion risks only with color, as i discovered men were extremely aware of how women deploy sexuality in the workplace, and classic pieces never invited any undue speculation as to, ahem, availability. Both sexes appreciated color and a bit of sparkle.
Long answer, just some of the reasoning that went into my travel wardrobes, as my consulting was 100% travel for years, in some very different business cultures. Would be interested in your observations of what flies in your industry! And why?

Outfit 1 is too wintery looking for spring in the south...I would either change the tee for a white shirt or for a different colored tee...Make sure you have enough warm c lothes..even consider socks because the a/c in those conference centers is brutal...Other than that have fun...

That is a long conference. After two days, I'd be ready to go home.
Looks like a pretty solid capsule. I really like the outfit in #4 and #5, it looks superb.#7 and #8 are also great, though I prefer 8 because of the layers, but that's a personal preference. I'm a little unsure about #3. Maybe it's the delicacy of the beadwork combined with the casualness of the white cuffs, or maybe it's the competing saturation of the shirt with the pants, that make me less enthusiastic about this outfit than the others. But overall, excellent choices.

Next week, I'll be traveling for a professional conference - 6 days, 5 nights. First day is purely travel, conference starts the evening of day 2. I go straight to the airport from the conference on day 6. Dress code is business casual. Conference is in South Carolina, where spring has definitely arrived, though I expect I will spend much of my time in an air-conditioned hotel meeting room. It's a small event, so I'll be seeing the same people all day for the 5 days of the conference.

Here's what I'm thinking of taking for outfits. Of course, I'll also be packing other essentials like sleepwear, running clothes, undergarments, etc.

Bottoms: Jeans, LOFT black pencil, Gap gray pants, Lands End tuxedo pants

Tops: red tee, LOFT black and white shell, BR Factory purple blouse, Brooks Brothers blue shirt, BR framed shirt, JCrew blue sweater

Toppers: LOFT black cardi, H&M black blazer,

Shoes: Sam Edelman Petty booties, Cole Haan wedges

For outerwear I'll either bring a khaki trench or a gray rain jacket (see finds), depending on the weather forecast. The former is more professional, the latter travels really well and still looks okay with business casual attire. I'll have a Baggallini tote large enough for my laptop and work papers. If it looks like the weather will be running on the cool side, I'll bring black pumps instead of the wedges and some black tights.

Outfits:

Pic #1. Jeans, tee, cardi - for my long travel day there.

Pic #2. Pencil skirt and blue sweater. I'll probably wear the sweater with jeans in the morning before the conference starts.

Pic #3. Blazer, purple blouse, gray pants. Thought about tucking the blouse, but like the long line created by the blouse's beading.

Pics #4-6. The tuxedo pants are new. Do they look to be the right length? I couldn't decide about tucking, and pictured it two ways. I took a picture from the side so you could see the stripe.

Pic #7. Pencil skirt and buttoned blue shirt.

Pic #8. Gray pants, black blazer, black and white shell. I have to fly in this outfit since I'll have no time to change before going on the plane. It's not as comfy as I prefer for air travel, but it will do.

These aren't completely styled. I expect I'd end up rolling the sleeves of the buttoned shirts. For accessories, would probably wear my watch and some earrings.

Feedback and ideas welcome! Looking at my own pictures, I don't care very much for my day 1 outfit, but it's so practical I might leave it as is.
