Cute cute cute! My only question is - will those shoes really work? When I travel, I walk pretty much eight hours a day. Sneaker soles are really the only thing for me...

Sounds like a good plan. I'm still wondering how you can fit this in a carry on. I can get 3 days in a carry on, that's it. What am I doing wrong? Yes I do roll the items. I find the footwear and toiletries take up room. Do you feel like taking a picture Sveta, of your packed carry on?

Looks like you are on your way to a great time. Very impressed that you make a carry on work. Don't even aim for that on a one week trip overseas. Love the dress! Good shoe and bootie options. Enjoy yourselves!

Ok, I am glad this is sorted out already so I can just gush - wow Sveta forget about travel, these are some gorgeous outfits! Love the lace in #1, the blue turtleneck, blue trenchcoat, culottes, umm that is just what i remember before scrolling up. Anyway, I think the brown loafers are best since you are bringing the snakeskin booties (fantastic!) and it will be good to have one easier to maintain pair. Enjoy!

Looks like a very serviceable travel capsule. Glad to see the addition of a turtle neck. Why not bring the black skirt you feel is too big? It is twirly enough for dancing, works with your colours, works with the tops you've selected...and you can leave it behind (donate) to make room for things you might pick up enroute?

Have a wonderful trip/vacation?

Thank you for helping me out!
You convinced me to make the following changes to my travel capsule - take a dress instead of culottes and take brown loafers instead of cream.
Unfortunately this dress does not work for dancing at all: the skirt is restricting and it is too hot to dance in. However it will be perfect for other going out occasions as it has sleeves and warm enough for chilly October nights.
Here is my reasoning for the brown loafers: I feel that I do need both light and dark footwear options. The snake booties go with everything - maybe because the pattern has both light and darker colors. Cream loafers have bigger impact because of the solid color so they are not the best option when there is not enough white in your outfit (and you are not Angie :-) ) I am also taking these Franco Sarto cognac booties for more dressier options; however they do not work well with the taupe leather jacket - I guess because the booties are warm and the jacket is cool brown - but loafers work well with the jacket (see pic. 5-6) So for maximum versatility I am taking light, warm brown and cool brown footwear.

As for the potential dance - I decided to stick with the lace shell over a silk shell and black cigarette trousers. If I take a "dance" dress I also need to take different shoes - and this means I need to leave behind another pair of my "walking" shoes for something I will need only once - or not at all. I think the python booties will do fine: they work with the outfit and the soles are OK for dancing.

Still have not decided if I should take the sweatshirt or not. On one hand it layers over a white tunic and striped top well and comfortable. On another hand it does not look good on its own with the skinnies - too cropped - but maybe can be layered over a t-neck?

Suz, I am taking 3 scarves, I just do not have them all in my finds :-). This pale blue works really well with ink and with yellow top. Another one I am taking is b/w polka dot silk - great for lightening the outfit a bit. And the third one is turquoise and brown - to tie in the brown loafers if needed. It also works well with yellow and with other colors too.

Joy, I am taking both striped and plaid shirts - they are of different weight so they serve different purpose: plaid is flannel so it is pretty warm.

Cheryle, I don't find it hard at all. We traveled for 2 weeks in Portugal and it was enough for me. Mind you I am glad to come back home and hug my closet when the 2 weeks are done :-)
Karie, thanks for the recommendation - should check it out!

Outfit #1 looks lovely, but if you are going to be ballroom-dancing I think you would regret not having a skirt to twirl. Even the culottes would provide a bit of rotational action, but they are rather tailored, so I vote take a dress or skirt. Unless you plan to buy or borrow there...

The cognac loafers seem the practical choice. But your outfits with the cream ones sing to me in a way the darker ones don't. Are you likely to be walking in mud? If not... If you have the light coloured topper and 2 pairs of light footwear to bookend, you have maximum Garanimals switchability of outfits.

Maybe it's because I'm viewing a tiny pic on my phone, but I love the lace shell over the tartan...

Lucky you going to Europe for a few weeks! Here's what I have to say:

1. The pants don't look dated and the outfit is very pretty, but I'd bring a dress, or at least a skirt and a top.
2. Blue turtleneck with either pair of pants.
3. I like the cream loafers best.
4. I like all the jacket options, but my favorites are the 1st and 3rd.
5-6. I like the jackets better than the blazer, and the cream jacket is my fav.
7. Either way, both are good.
8. I don't care for the lace over the plaid. I like the cream loafers best.

Oh, and if you want to put a temporary hem in something, don't use pins, get this stuff - it works great:
http://www.amazon.com/Temporar.....f=sr_1_7?i

Ack, just lost my post. In general, I agree with Cocolion. I think the taupe loafers and jacket might serve you best for this trip. I'd take one turtleneck, the one that layers best under the jacket, one white top, probably the sheer one with a white tank that could be layered under it for another warm weather option. I'd take either the striped or plaid shirt but not both. I'm leaning toward the plaid as the most different. You might need another top for warm weather and a packable skirt or dress. If you are flying within Europe, check carry on size requirements. I think some are smaller than they used to be. If using trains, keep it light to keep travel easy. Love the lace top and how it dresses up an outfit.

Just a few short replies:
I love all of 1 and think the trousers look fine for a dance, or evening event.
I would tend to brown loafers as you have light booties. But both work very well in all looks.
I don't like the lace top over the plaid, too much going on.
I think culottes are a good choice for travelling in changeable weather.

I'd bring the darker loafers since you are bringing the lighter snake booties. This will give you more variety and will feel more fall-like.
If you have a non-iron dress, I'd advise bringing it. Dresses don't take up much room and are so easy to dress up.

What Denise and Rio said. Exactly. I agree with all that Denise said about her preferences for outfits. And I think you need a dress. Dresses pack up very small -- so small they are as nothing. I do see the potential footwear problem, however. Experiment with that suitcase and see what you can get in.

This is going to be a great capsule and you will have a wonderful and well deserved holiday!!

I think the white jacket may be your better bet if you plan to wear the Pettys a lot, but only you can say for sure on that.

I would bring an additional scarf, perhaps in a different fabrication. It will add to the sense that you are wearing something different.

And I am in awe of all your custom finds. I have yet to get on that!!

I think that you're way closer to travel capsule nirvana than you think you are! : )
I love outfit #1. I'll defer pant question to veterans.
I like the silk top under the t-neck.
I think I might prefer the cognac loafers.
Love the cream BF jeans. Take! Looks good with all toppers.
I like the blue blazer with the culottes but not as much as the other jackets. For proportions I defer to veterans.
I prefer plaid shirt untucked.
I'm not sure about the lace over the plaid and still prefer the brown shoe.
You're almost there! I hope you have an excellent trip!

Picture one -- love the layered blouses! Did you try this with the white leather jacket instead of the brown one?

Two -- I like this blouse with the blue turtleneck. With the sweatshirt type top, the length doesn't work as well.

Three -- I like both loafers. They both work.

Four -- Love the cream jeans as a travel capsule brightener. Love them with all jacket options!

Five & Six -- Culottes, lilac sweater and Petty booties. Much prefer the white and brown jackets to the navy blazer with this combination. The white would get my top vote as it picks up the whites in the Pettys.

Seven -- Prefer the plaid shirt untucked, looks great with the loafers!

Eight -- Outfits one and three work. Not as sure about outfit two in this collage.

Nine -- Outfits one and three. With three being my favorite. In theory the middle outfit should work because the white in the loafers would go with the white in the shirt. But I think the white loafers are more powerful thus needing the leather jacket for harmonious bookending.

Your trip sounds fantastic! Please share pictures and stories.

This is looking like a very serviceable travel capsule so far. Have you thought of packing one of your beautiful dresses or a skirt for dancing or evenings out?

I love creating travel capsules and always try to travel as light as possible.

My rule of thumb formula goes something like this:
- 2 pairs shoes
- 3 pairs pants (shorts/culottes)
- 1 skirt or dress
- 1 dressy topper
- 1 waterproof
- 5-7 essential tops (tees, button downs etc)
- 1-2 mid layers (sweaters, wraps etc)
- A few favourite accessories (scarves, belts, hats etc)

Everything has to mix and match so colour palettes and silhouettes are tightly coordinated. I've found I don't need much more than this and a really good edit can keep me going for weeks.

Me again...
If you thought the booties were too casual for the dance could you swap them out for the darker loafers?

Well first off, because you're taking the lighter coloured snakeskin boots I think the darker loafers might be the better choice.
I LOVE the outfit in #1. As to whether it's dressy enough for a dance, I guess that depends on how casual or formal the dance is. Can you get any more information before you go?
The cream jeans in # 4 look great in all iterations. The blazer gives you a slightly dressier vibe.
I'm not loving the lace shell over the plaid shirt. I vote confusing :-).

Enjoy your trip!

I am leaving for our European vacation in 4 days (OMG!) and I started packing today. I am so far from the travel capsule nirvana so many YLF members mastered to perfection (Suz and Ornella come to mind), for me it is a panic mode!
We are traveling for 2 weeks through Poland and Czech Republic. On the agenda is sight seeing (lots of walking) so I need to be comfortable. Also we plan to attend some performances and concerts in the evening so I need something more or less dressy. In addition there is an opportunity to go to the evening of ballroom dancing in Prague which may be fun - so I need something fairly dressy but cool to dance in.\
It is the transitional season so weather can range from quite warm to downright chilly, especially in the evenings and rain is also quite a possibility - so I need to plan for a range of weather conditions.
Oh and did I mention that it all has to fit into a carry on?

I have been agonizing over the packing for a week now but got to packing today. I will have some laundry opportunities in the apartments we are staying in so I definitely can wash shirts and underwear, maybe even jeans if needed.
Here is what I came up with - see attached finds. Originally I planned for 2 jackets and 3 bottoms and a dress but then decided to skip the dress and go for 4 bottoms and 3 jackets. I want to take 3 pairs of shoes.

Here are the questions I have:

1. This is what I plan to wear for a dance if we get to go. These booties are good enough to dance in. The cream silk shell is lightweight and hopefully the lace shell adds to the dressiness factor. What do you think? Please be honest, I don't want to embarrass myself on the dance floor:-) Also do scrunched cigarette pants look dated now - should I pin the pants to ankle length?
2. Trying the same silk shell layered under several tops. Any of this work?
3. I am trying to decide between cream and cognac loafers. They are the same style so the comfort level is the same. Practical side of me says that dark brown maybe more versatile but some other side wants to sneak cream loafers in. Here they are with the blue trench - any preference for the color?
4. Originally I planned for 3 bottoms but then decided to throw in cream BF jeans. I know, not the best choice for a minimal travel capsule but with laundry available maybe I can wear them at least 4-5 times? Here they are styled with a plaid shirt - do you like all jacket options here?
5-6. One of the 4 bottoms I plan to take is my sailor-style culottes. I thought that they will give me more variety and to some extend replace the dress. Here they are with the ink blazer - do you think this length work with the culottes? Both leather jackets work well with them but here I need a sanity check.
7. Culottes with the plaid shirt - tuck or not to tuck, this is the question :-0
8-9. Trying to layer a lace shell over the plaid shirt - style confusion or fun juxtaposition? Also trying to decide if brown or cream loafers work better here - what do you think?

The question of the loafers is the most important at this point as i cannot make up my mind. Please help me decide which ones should I take!!

Thanks a lot for your help.
