I think you may be right Angie (as usual), modern classic probably is where I'm heading *gulp* this should be fun.

I empathize with you as well. I think not feeling drawn to the current styles of tops and dresses makes it challenging to add pieces to my wardrobe which is what I want to do each year after winter loses its hold. I also agree with Angie in that stage of life plays a big part. I hope you're able to go after a piece or two that speaks to you that you were unable to wear before due to potential messes I can relate to your dilemma in that scenario as well!

This is great news! It means you are blossoming even more :)

Julie, I think that your drastic hairstyle change may have egged on this feeling about your style direction. Spring is pretty much to blame too.

I love what Jean said. (I too went through a similar style journey at 35). I think you're after a cleaner and more simple look. It wasn't long ago that you kind of went off ruffles. So modern classics come to mind, as they contrast so beautifully with your daring hair style and body art.

Great questions Jean. I do hope to change jobs once the economy cooperates but my work wear is only a small part of my wardrobe. I think the biggest change is my youngest reaching two I feel certain clothing that was off limits due to practicality is now feasible.

Prints are a major staple of my wardrobe but the ones available at present are even too twee for me.

I'm not really changing my colour palette drastically (I've since lowlighted my hair to better suit my wardrobe) but I'm trying a couple of new shades such as wedgewood blue and sea greens.

I'm craving coloured separates and tailored pieces.

The looks I thought I would love such as flares with seventies blouses are not appealing to me right. I guess I just need to give myself some time to sort these things out.

So sorry for completely rambling at you lovely ladies.

I think spring can somehow nudge us into re-evaluating ourselves and our styles. Something about this time of year! I think it's okay to feel sort of disoriented or lost for a bit, and wait to see what emerges next. Maybe that's not much help :).

Greenglove-- your painting comment made me laugh. I started down that path at least 6 years ago except now I have stopped making art and am just eccentric!

I'm kind of in the same place, but I am not sure that I am as confident in who I am. I am in major life transition right now. I still know what I like, but trying to figure out what is appropriate for the new upcoming lifestyle is going to end up being an experiment.

Are you changing jobs or anything having to do with life-style? Are you bored with the romantic, lovely vintage inspired looks that you currently wea ror are you looking for a bit more variety. Maybe you are hankering to be trendier or more classic? Has your color pallatte and new hair style made it necessary to tweak some of your wardrobe?

Those are the questions I ask myself. My style does not change completely but does get more fine- tuned which sometimes eliminates things I would have worn in the past. My color is back to being more subtle. I shop for color now more than anything. Odd mixtures of earth and neutral, interesting texture. I am becoming my paintings.I will probably be eccentric as an old lady.

Angie's recent blog about her style epiphany has really set me thinking
http://youlookfab.com/2011/03/.....-epiphany/
I know my style is transitioning but for the first time I don't seem to know in what direction my style is heading. I know what I like but can't answer the question 'is this piece me? The strange thing is I'm at a point where I know myself better than ever and I'm feeling confident in my own skin. I guess I'm fashionably lost.

I know there are many wise ladies on the forum with experience of this problem so I would love to know how you handled the situation. Pretty Please.

Thanking you in advance

(I'm really sorry if I don't get back to this thread quickly, Ben and I have a week off work so family time is v. high on the agenda.)
