I adore mixed metals. This Apple watchband, for example, as well as tons of other jewelry on the site. I prefer not being overly matchy matchy in my style.

I am not sure if I like Apple watch with those bracelets. I like idea but I don’t think I like my jewelry. I have tons of inherited or gifted jewerly but non of it is what I would select for my self. And I never bought any for myself that I actually like. That is probably why I rarely wear any.

I am a warm neutral skinned blonde, too-but when I was young adult yellow gold didn't look good on me and wore all my jewelery around my face (small studs, a wire chocker, or long pendants) all in silver (+ some gunmetal).

When became a specs wearer my specs were all acrylic in a statement color -never a metal-and so- didn't interfere. Still, I always somehow mixed metals on my hands. I just kept wearing my gold wedding band and a statement ring (with 5 zyrconia stones) made of mixed white/yellow gold and a big white (and silver) chunky watch on my left hand- no problem. On the right hand am wearing a simple white gold and zyrconia ring+ sometimes a cuff but this again is silver/antique silver, white pearls or lamp beads but NOT GOLD. I was please with this aesthetic for decades.

Then, I lost my beloved silver wire chocker and couldn't replace. Plus, my newest prescription glasses (from spring 2022) are havana (but in colder hues and NOT yelowish!) and have very pale creamy golden arms--so not the bright yellow or rose gold at all. I deliberately choose these as found out they go better with my skin- silver harware on specs were somehow too bright on my warmish face. I also changed my small silver studs to zyrconia in a very thin gold frame(and skip wearing a necklace)-so I am pleased again-AND I still like my chunky white/silver watch and old rings and find they don't clash with my specs so plan to wear them further. (Ah, forgot to say I am somehow special in my prefferences as I have to wear the AudioLink of my CI (which is a small white gadget on a longer black cord) around my neck or clipped on my clothes 12/24 so unless dressy I now generally avoid wearing any other jewelery around my neck.

I wear mixed metals! It makes me feel like all the glam Italian women in my life who have accumulated armloads, neckloads, and fingers full of jewelry over the years, and who the heck cares what color it all is.

I am also a gemini who refuses to decide, and I wear mostly silver-toned in the winter and mostly gold-toned in the summer. (Year-round, when I wear my rings, I keep my white metals on my left hand, since wedding ring is platinum, and gold on the right.) Every year I wonder if this is the year that it will feel more right to stick to one metal, but there's always a point every spring or every fall where suddenly the metal I'm wearing feels like the wrong season and I begin my switcharoo.

I'm with you in team no-mix, for the exact same reasons! And yet I do it on a regular basis, as I have white gold wedding rings while mostly wearing gold jewelry in this leg of my style journey.

For your transition, I agree with Jaime about prioritizing non-metallic glasses.
In addition to that, I don't think temporarily mixing the silver Apple watch and gold hardware on a handbag/belt/shoes would "clash" that much since the items would be quite far away from one another. Or, if it helps feeling right during the transition, state the mixing as deliberate by wearing a gold item (such as a simple bracelet) right next to the Apple watch?

Silver is my preferred metal but ever since I fell in love with the first mixed metal watch I ever saw, I have been mixing metals. Actually my wedding rings are gold as I liked how the color set off the diamond. And I had tricolor earrings a long time ago. And I inherited from my MIL a tricolor bracelet I had always loved that had an unfortunate meeting with a garbage disposal. And I‘be made some mixed metal earrings.

I mix gold with bronze or brass, but not with gunmetal/ pewter finish grey.

The easiest fix I've found so far is painting over hardware with nail polish, lol! I wouldn't advise it for fine jewellery, but those thin nail art pens/ brushes can be great for getting into crevices (I have painted over zipper pulls, pocket studs & D rings with success - most recent was a belt buckle)!

I lean toward silver with my coloring but do sometimes like to wear gold also, which works because my skin is actually close to neutral. I think. Anyway, despite my scattershot styling I do not love to mix metals and do not think you need to force yourself to do so. I think you might prioritize getting non-metallic glasses and then wear what feels right any given day.

I have one pair of glasses that are gold tone, and if my outfit supports it, will wear a mixed metal necklace and will wear silver earrings. However, most often, I mix the metal tones when I have eyeglasses on that are NOT metallic. I read the answers above, and thought "I mix all the time"...but then realized, as thought about it, that I usually don't mix if I have on the gold glasses. My recommendation, and how I have dealt with it--I have two pair of mixed tone earrings that allow me to mix metals, and effectively let me wear either tone when I wear the gold eyeglasses.

Anchie, mixing metals can be a great look! I have several clients that do it successfully, especially when they wear mixed metal pieces.

Or you can stick to one metal in an outfit.

I suggest your next Apple watch is gold. Get a silver and gold bracelet to wear with it to ease the transition.

Get specs that are metal-free. Mine always are!

To answer your question:

I bat for Team Gold and I don't mix metals. All hardware must be gold for me to wear it. Buttons can be pewter - like these Boss pants - so they work with my gold. I painted the silver buttons on my white denim jacket a shade of pewter too!

Oh, I find that buttons and belt buckles, along with anything more obvious than a subtle zipper on a boot, are the things I can’t tolerate in my less-favored metal. I simply won’t buy or wear a belt with a gold toned buckle. If an item I otherwise love has gold buttons, I’ll switch them out (did that with a JCrew pea coat years ago — I think silver looks better with turquoise anyway).

Picking and choosing less obvious items with varying metals makes the transition easier, I think. A belt buckle or buttons in the front of a jacket are more obvious than say a ring or subtle necklace.

I wear gold sunglasses and won’t wear silver jewelry with them. So I get it. I do mix metals a bit though in other ways. I lean to gold hardware but have a belt with a silver buckle I mix in and some treasured silver rings and necklaces.

Might be worth experimenting for low key days with mixing and see how you feel?

As a blonde, I wore rose gold, yellow gold, and silver and sometimes mixed metals. It wouldn't have been too noticeable, though, because I don't wear a lot of jewellery and most of my bags at that time would have had minimal hardware.

When my hair went silver, I transitioned to all silver hardware and jewellery. Except for one jacket that has gold buttons (and they drive me crazy, so.....). Gold still looks okay on me, I think, But I like the way silver emphasizes the shine in my hair and makes an outfit cohesive. My complexion is cool to neutral. Eyes cool toned, dark blue.

I think your glasses are the issue -- once you fix that problem, you will be able to wear both metals well. Given your preference for matching, you may still prefer outfits that feature one metal or the other, but you won't be as limited in your choice of items at least.

I default to silver and it is my strong preference because it is more flattering on me and I generally like the vibe better. However, I will do a bag with a small amount of gold (a zipper, say), and I do have some pieces of jewelry that are gold that I enjoy wearing. I just make sure I have a complement of gold for those times when I don’t feel like mixing metals.

I do prefer bags without brightly toned hardware — I love a gunmetal because it blends nicely with black or other dark colors, and my favorite bag has no shiny hardware at all.

My current glasses are clear frames, which I love. They go with everything with no concerns of clashing or matching.

I am a warm toned person who went grey. I always loved gold and still do, but after greying found silver also could look good. I deliberately bought a mixed metal watch in 2017 and then mixed metal earrings in 2018. I don’t mix often but when I feel like it these items help. My glasses don’t have metal rims.

Like you Anchie my personal coloring is mixed -- warm hair, cool to neutral skin tone, cool eyes. I mix metals quite a bit and am not bothered by it. But, I don't have your matchy matchy gene.

Plus, I don't care for hardware on shoes, prefer bags with minimal hardware, and don't wear belts. So it is just jewelry really. Fewer moving parts, maybe.

I mostly wear contacts lenses when dressed/out and about, but I just realized my eyeglass frames (no visible metal) are a blue/brown tortoiseshell mix. So maybe I unconsciously matched my warm/cool coloring with them too!

I'd suggest buying a couple pieces that have mixed metals, to make the transition more intentional.

I wear copper and gold together, cause my wedding ring is gold and copper hardware on bags doesn't seem to exist. Silver I don't wear at all cause it clashes with my skin.

I have small earrings that have both - silver and gold, silver chain with some gold links and one bracelet with all kinds of metals mixed. Currently I'm just ignoring the strict rules and wear anything from my jewelry collection ( mostly silver , some gold that works better if my hair is colored/highlighted ).

I don't mix metals unless they are mixed within an individual piece - then there's more room to play around. But if footwear has gold hardware, I'm not using a purse with silver hardware or silver jewellery. Effortless or not, there's an art to it, as you know yourself, which isn't just throwing on a bunch of stuff . I can see how having metal in your eyeglasses complicates the issue. As to which metal works best on me? Gold, but I do like silver too and wear it often. Different makeup makes it work.
