Eeek sorry if I spammed this thread - I just copied and pasted my iTunes playlist!!!

Vani its funny you mention Gasolina - I have several different remixes of it on my ipod!!! During my time in Ecuador that was *the* song of the moment, so it was everywhere 24/7 it felt like. Hearing it brings back special memories for me and can't help but make me feel energised!!!!

Do you know of similar reggaeton songs? We are sadly laking that genre here in Australia!!!!

Podrunner is great!

I have nearly 1000 songs loaded up on my ipod, and I simply hit "Shuffle." If a song comes on that doesn't fit my running mood for that day (too slow, too fast), I just hit skip and go on to the next.

I did make up lists just for running awhile back, but at present moment, those songs are a bit too fast for me and I am trying not to overdo it and run too hard. One of the songs on that playlist is "White Lines." It's great because it's longgggg.... you can get into a groove. My playlist also includes a lot of Black-Eyed peas too. :-)

I also like running to the entire Verve Remixed album. And Abba's Greatest Hits.

The one problem with Shuffle, lately, is that I keep getting a Helen Reddy song. LOL. Helen Reddy was the first album I ever bought, when I was 10, so of course I had to have it on my ipod! It's just one album out of a hundreds, but one or two songs seems to come up every single day for some odd reason. It's become quite comical. I keep wondering if the universe is trying to tell me something - what, I cannot BEGIN to fathom!

WOW!!! This amazing! SO many songs, some of which I recognize and some I don't. Guess who's going to be Grooveshark-ing all day?!

Sarah, Kristen, Melody, I have many songs that I find great to workout to but don't listen to IRL. E.g. Gasolina (Daddy Yankee). These were just a few songs that I have on a CD here at work, I have many more on my ipod like these :-D

Melody, I have one song on my ipod that is...explicit...by Eminem (duh) called "Shake That" and would be very embarrassed if anyone were to overhear me listening to it. But darn if it doesn't get me moving!

Medusa, Finally someone who's heard of Santogold! I felt like I was the only one for miles :-S I love her sound, very different but so eclectic and in a fun way. M.I.A. rocks :-)

LOP, thanks for the suggestion! I will definitely check them out. I use Podrunner's podcasts when I'm trying to maintain a specific BPM. These are more like techno remixes with very little vocals.

Tam, Whoa! Thanks so much! Real Slim Shady cracks me up every single time! I know it used to be on my rotation but forgot all about it. I'm going to bring it back

Music makes working out double fun! You're right about needing different music for different activities.

I sometimes just listen to a new CD I bought while running even if it is not the traditional workout music. You don't need to have the beat while running, but with other activities like steps, aerobics, stair climb, etc. you need a 4x8 beat. In a professional workout mix, the tracks should follow each other without a break and without breaking the rhythm. Hard to get it right at times. I had to work with DJs at times to mix my own when I was a trainer. It takes a long time.

I've been using http://www.powermusic.com/home.php for many years for workout music. It was the best alternative to making my own workout mixes. The BPMs of tracks are arranged for a full workout starting with warm up and cool down so one needs to be careful to finish the workout.

I recently came across the Biggest Loser workout mixes available on iTunes and liked the two I purchased. I think they are also made by Power Music...

I have a workout playlist - when I find a good workout song I go into itunes and put the word "workout" in the comments section. Then my playlist is all the songs with that comment, randomly ordered. I can add/remove songs by just changing the comment.

Since you mentioned M.I.A. and Santogold I'll say that I love most songs from the for working out.

Also: I Love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett.

I know I have more. But not enough. My music repeats now that I'm running more. Do you use iTunes? They have a great cross feature. If you put in a song or artist you like it pulls up suggestions. Sort of like a DVR for the iPod. :)
Another great tool is each month Shape magazine gives you a snippet of their cover celebrity's tunes list.

My old workout playlists have grown stale and I'm looking for something fresh to put there. My old trusty favourites (in no particular order) have been:

1. Hey Mama, Pump It by Black Eyed Peas (I forgot to mention this group in my fav 90s bands list)
2. Smack That B**** Up, Mindfields by Prodigy
3. History Repeating, Take California by Propellerheads (Another uh-mazing band with sadly too few songs out there)
4. Lose Yourself by Eminem
5. Mr. Brightside by The Killers
6. We Made It by Linkin Park/ Busta Rhymes
7. Right Here, Right Now by Fatboy Slim
8. Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go) by Garbage
9. Break Stuff, Rollin' by Limp Bizkit
10. Battle Flag by Pigeonhead
11. Come Around by M.I.A.
12. Bawitdaba by Kidrock
13. What Are You Waiting For by Gwen Stefani
14. Summer Song by Joe Satriani
15. Mas by Kinky
16. Rock Me by Pills
17. Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
18. L.E.S Artistes by Santogold
20. Elevation by U2
21. Bab O' Riley by The Who
22. That's Right by Jesse Cook

I switch between these songs and the amazing podcasts from Podrunner. Lately I've been feeling like I need to do some rehauling. I still won't probably do too many top 40 pop songs. I feel like I need different type of music when I'm running outside versus when using the stairclimber at the gym.

What do you listen, if you do listen to anything, while working out?
