Jeans are historically problematic for me due to weight fluctuations, and the need for a Very high back rise, but the 2 I'm wearing now are pull on. I refuse to struggle with my clothes at this point in my life!
The other factor is my new schedule. I'm off Sundays- Tuesdays now, and occasionally I'll wear the boot cut jeans to work on Fridays and Saturdays, so much more opportunity.

I think the line about your jeans is key and interesting -- you wore them a lot more than you anticipated, now that you finally have good ones.

In other words -- fit (and flattery, and degree to which an item can work with other wardrobe workhorses) is often more important than we realize. And we can't always predict what we will or won't wear based on past patterns, if we've never had an adequate version of a certain item.

Ooh, thanks for sharing your tracking method! I keep saying I'll do it but I think part of why I've been putting it off for so long is because I've been making it unnecessarily complicated in my head, lol...

I think the sandal booties as MVPs actually makes sense for someone who likes to keep their sandals out year-round - this way you get to compromise with the weather without feeling like you're compromising, IYKWIM

The weather has thankfully been 'cool enough' here (usually March is when things start to get unbearably hot & muggy again, but it's been 'only' 20-22C lately yet overcast) so I've also been able to start rewearing my sandals without feeling like I have to put away my booties just yet.

Probably April for me too. There will be 70s this week, but low tomorrow is expected at 35. Our springs tend to be much rainier than our autumns.

I'll need to bring my summer stuff out this weekend, but I wore my heaviest puffer coat a few days in the last couple weeks when working outside.

Good learnings for Q1. I’ve been editing a little each month due to wear (skinny jeans) and change in size. Previously the weight loss affected just bottoms, but a recent drop has affected the fit of tops and dresses. I want to minimize purchasing errors, so am holding out for B&M shopping. 9 purchases made in Q1 and 4 are footwear!

When I crunched the numbers for March, I realized that I’ve rotated through all my cold weather bottoms (8). Before tossing the worn skinnies, I would maybe rotate through 4 different bottoms monthly,

April is the most transitional/varied month with regards to weather here.

@ Suntiger - which month gives your closet the biggest workout?

I wear sandals if it's 60 degrees +, no matter what the calandar says! They stay out all year :)
The sandal booties I'll wear in the 50s or a little lower with nude knee highs.

It’s funny, I’m not ready for bare toes yet, but that may be the Reynauds talking. But I am thinking about sandals because it’s only a matter of weeks before it’s truly time. And I’m going to Mexico for a long weekend at the end of April, so sandals are in my forecast soon!

I’m impressed with your tracking and your commitment to tightening up the wardrobe!

Well done for being consistent in tracking the usage, it takes a bit of patience! I have been finding it very helpful as well as it gave me lots of hindsight on the high and low uses, sometimes a bit unexpected.

I am in similar position as you as I am adjusting my wardrobe to better fit to my lifestyle. The total quantity has only increased by 4 pieces, even though I bought 18 pieces (8 of them were direct replacements) and have also donated/sold 14 pieces so far. My high wear pieces are the black coat and a grey turtleneck. So far, I've noticed that my denim jackets has not been used at all, I guess it is just not right for me in terms of style and fit.

Has tracking also helped you identify changes in your style?

Here is a blank of my tracking form, which I have paper copies per category cause I don't use my regular computer most days. Year in this case means year bought. I just put tally marks as I wear each item, and cross off pieces that I consign or donate. I'd show my written ones but my handwriting is bad!

Dresses are problematic for me too Sal cause they're often so size dependent. I bought a lot when I was much thinner than I am now, and have been slowly passing them on.

Black is definitely essential for me- always has been! I had started to add some browns in the last couple years, which I prefer with my lighter and cooler colors, but I decided I'd rather wear black.

Interesting that you got good wear from transitional shoes. Shoes they were worth buying.

My big lesson from tracking is that I don’t wear my dresses as much as I think I do. They get worn - and no regrets - but I should be cautious about adding too many despite loving them.

And black is obviously an essential for you.

First 3 months of my tracking experiment completed!

All the Finds are my MVPs, with 15+ wears. I counted the swimsuits together though- cause I just switch off each time. Out of all these, the black tote (new this year) got 35 uses already! Bad news, the handles have wear and will need repair at some point. Surprise MVP- my sandal booties. I thought I didn't wear transitional shoes much but these got 17 wears, tied with the Blondos.

I am slowly reducing my wardrobe, but bought a lot too. Total 15 in, but 20 out. 1 item not worn yet cause it hasn't been warm enough, a black pleated skirt. Besides these 2 bags though, my new leather jacket has been high use, with 12 wears.

High wear categories:
Black pants (shocks no one)- total of 37 wears between 5.
Jeans- total of 14 wears between 2. A lot for me- since I finally have good ones.
Black tops- total of 21 wears between 6

Low wear categories:
Non swim gear. Swimming and hiking have been my only exercize this quarter. Will change when I start biking and SUP again.
Summer things. Aside from 13 total sandal wears (not inc sandal booties), and 5 for the Ripskirt in FL, not much has been used yet- which is understandable.
Lightweight toppers- cardis and thin jackets. I barely wore any of them. This will likely change as it warms up.
Long sleeved dress and heavier skirts- not worn at all. I tend to wear them in transitional weather, when I don't need to fool with tights.

Sorry- nothing terribly interesting. Q2 should be a bit more diverse, since it'll be transitional to hot weather
