Fabulous ideas from Diana. Good luck in your search. Often you can get a bit dressier, updated tops for not much more than you would spend on a tshirt, and why not look great and updated everyday?

Agree with Mo! I'm in love with the new mixmedia tops exactly for the reason you're wanteing to upgrade your casual tees! They make a wonderful job! Knitt shirts, also good! Then what about some a fluid chiffon/silk tops(like our norvegian Jayne posted recently) under a cardi/jacket/denim jacket?

I've been popping " chiffon tops" in the search engine of the different sites I trawl. It opens up a swag of possibilities. Mostly the tops have a lined bodice and single layer sleeves. I'm on my iPad and can't hyperlink to show you examples, sorry 'bout that.

I like soft woven blouses. They come in many shapes and forms, at all price points. Nordstrom has a good selection:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/wo.....in=leftnav

Short sleeved ones like these are quite versatile and you can treat them like a loose-fitting tee. These are polyester, which might be too hot for summer, but they also come in silk (more expensive obviously) or rayon.
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/pl.....onalizedso
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/pl.....-personali

Soft silk blouses are always nice (or you can go with rayon or poly for cheaper):
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/ne.....extualcate

Blousons don't work for me but they might work for you depending on your shape:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/mi.....-personali

I like sheer chiffon blouses and tops with a cami underneath, but obviously you have to be OK with layering:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/sa.....personaliz

I just bought a long sleeve camp shirt from Eddie Bauer. It is *really* light cotton and then I roll the sleeves to 3/4 length. I love it - I do not wear stiff button down shirts very often. I like juxtaposition so I wear it with something tough/masculine like my boyfriend jeans or cut off shorts.

Not sure if the picture will show up or not, but here is the link:

Maybe some mixed media tops? I have this from Old Navy (1) a few seasons ago that is knit in the back and woven in the front. And then there is the cloud print from Ceit/Una (2) with woven front panel and knit back and sleeves. The knit backs offer ease while the woven fronts dress them up a bit.
Alternately, a knit with a banded bottom (4-6) could offer you just a hint of structure that you are needing?

While sorting through my closet, I've realized it's time to upgrade my casual uniform of a v-neck tee with a tank underneath. I don't like the way they cling, especially when it's hot out and I'm just not comfortable in them anymore. I just don't know what to replace them with that will be almost as easy to throw on. I know I've read on here in the past (it's been a couple of years since I've been on here so I'm rediscovering everything) to go with woven tops for a more refined look. The first thing that comes to my mind of course is a button down which doesn't really fit my lifestyle. I do realize there must be a ton of other options out there but I don't even know where to start. I have plenty of sweaters and jackets for when it's cooler but it's still quite hot here. The only woven shirts I currently own are a few button downs that I rarely wear and some sleeveless tops that I like but I don't wear sleeveless by itself so I have to throw a cardigan over the top which negates the coolness factor obviously!

If I could get some specific examples of what I should be looking for (short sleeve or 3/4) that would be easy to wear with jeans and casual skirts that would be a big help.
Thank you!
Eta: I'd rather not have to tuck in
