I've been wearing some "fluid" button front shirts (I've got a couple that are woven on the front but the back and sleeves are knit which I find much more comfortable than a traditional button front shirt), a chiffon tunic, or layering waterfall front topper over a tee.

Not an apple myself, but I recently saw Susie wear a high low tunic that was SO flattering and gorgeous. So I guess that's another vote for the button-front shirts suggested by unfrumped. Maybe asymmetrical hemlines and a bit of drape are also features to look for?

For knit tops, boxy-fluid or the new sort of A-line sweaters come to mind. Waist-surrendering. Also a good-fitting button-front fabric shirt in a crisp fabric--fitting at the shoulder or just a bit generously in the shoulders so there is enough in the body --still looks sharp over skinnies, I think, if in a modern iteration and not just a "big shirt". A silky-fabric blouse can fit more loosely because of the movement.
Some wrap tops may work if they aren't too empire-ish. Since those are kind of traditional solutions, I you would want to aim for modernized versions with modern accessories.
Hopefully some of our very fashionable apples will chime in with the real advice.

How about a peplum style?

A plaid button down in fall colors with a blazer and boots would also be cute.
