Hi Robin. As Joy mentioned the dress has very long side slits. These extend the full length of the model's thighs. So this might affect whether you are willing to wear it as a dress with just tights of leggings underneath. It depends on how much coverage you like to have. It hits the model at the knee so it is probably going to be mid calf on you. I don't think that's an ideal length for this piece, which has a 70s vibe. You could have it hemmed but there are large patch pockets at the hips that may end up being too close to the hem. That is, hemming it might put the proportions off. Sorry! For what it's worth, I really like it too!

I would wait to hear from Angie but I imagine height will make a difference I would also worry about the collar on my stubby neck. However. I have not seen this in person and I may be completely off!

Una: I'm 4,10. Do you think this would be too long or too much fabric for me, especially since it's stiff fabric?

Michelle: What great suggestions. Good point about the jewelry, especially for necklace-obsessed me. I can picture coloured bead bracelets with this.

Joy: Thanks so much for the additional details. I didn't even think to ask what tone the buttons are.

Robin, this piece has high slits on the sides and what look like rather large silver toned flat buttons. In one photo the model wears it over her outfit like an open coat. It would probably be best worn with navy or black leggings or slim pants. Michelle has great advice. Her ideas for jewelry and footwear are right on.

Robina, I realize you don't really have any of these pieces in your wardrobe now, but I'm just going with what I would do in a perfect world.
Caveat: I could be picturing this completely wrong, in which case ignore everything below, but...

This sounds like a super fun every-day piece with a variety of styling options... Since the skirt and front have a fair bit of interest with the slits/movement and the buttons, I would want to wear a cropped topper over it in the event that I had to wear anything at all. A boxy cardygan or leather jacket would add great textural contrast with the denim. That said, roll-tab sleeves + all the other details suggest that this would look great and perfectly complete sans topper too.

You can't really go wrong with black leggings or tights, expecially because they tuck easily into boots that would likely be great with this. Something pointy-toed yet flat could continue the mix of feminine spunk you've got going with the dress. Or fun patterned shoes of some kind. Didn't someone talk about footwear with plaid trim? Since the dress is neutrally-toned, fun footwear would almost certainly work. It *might* even be the kind of dress that would look cute with sassy sneakers or refined oxfords, though I'll let the others weigh in on that.
Depending how shiny or obvious the buttons are, I might want to keep jewelry off the torso and have it on my arms or ears instead. Again, though, ladies can offer better insight here.

I think it would be hard to wear as a dress - it looks quite heavy and stiff. But I like it as a long topper - how tall are you?

I don't know why, but this denim jacket-dres Angie selected as one of her top picks is calling to me.

But, it's so diferent from what I usually wear (which is okay, since I'm completely revamping what I usually wear) that I just don't know how to style it.

Before I invest in this - yes, it's a relatively small economic investment, but every clothing purchase is an investment - I'd like to hear some ideas on styling it. To start with, what colour leggings would one wear with this?
