This is a fun read because one often feels no one else ever has misses. I did not buy much this year and I tended to do replacing but could not find the quality or colors I wanted. My hits have been wide jeans and autumn earth tones that I have not worn for years. Some may be turning into losers because the higher waist line rubs on a new glucose meter attached to my abdominal area that is not supposed to get bumped. It also causes a bump under tops that I do not like and I need to just wear loose dresses. Loose pants fall down ( no hips). Tunics look too long and turn me into a stumpy gnome.

nemosmom, I just love your green polkadot skirt and imagine that it could be styled in numerous ways year round. Have you considered wearing it with one of your graphic tees and your fabulous moto jacket?

Re: the coach blazer. What if you wore it over a gold slip dress? Or a colomn of burgundy red, trousers and a polo neck? It does look like a gorgeous garment! Don't Marie Kondo-it away just yet! I believe it has potential in your wardrobe

Gads, the ugly couch blazer is a 2018 purchase; not from this year!! So, I guess the good news is there is one fewer miss than I thought I had ;)

Carla - I could try to dress it down, I've tried distressed jeans, a white tee and dad sneakers, but honestly, I could wear pjs with it and it would still feel weird. I would feel less over-the-top wearing a string of christmas lights!

Fun thread.

My hits are:
Madewell - Cali cropped flare Jeans and 3 sweaters. The jeans are so soft and comfy, the high waist is flattering. The sweaters are each getting worn 2 or 3 times a week. I looked for wool sweaters this year and these are high quality. Starting to pill but I've worn them a lot.

Nordstrom mesh dress - So comfy and forgiving, I know I will wear it a lot.

Rag and bone velvet pants - high rise, stretchy, wish I had more of these.

Misses:
Cole Haan Wool Duffle jacket - so disappointing. I was sick of my dark long puffer so went for an olive green wool hooded jacket for a change. I don't have a lot of winter jackets so pretty much wear the same one every day. I thought because it was wool it would be warmer but it is not. The beautiful gold clasps are fussy to undo/redo, the neck hits at a really awkward place, too low to be warm and too high to be comfortable. Worst of all I have 3 pets and it collects dog hair like crazy, as much as I lint roll I cannot keep it clean. Such a bummer but it was expensive for me so now I have to keep it and wear it.

Shoes - My feet have started reacting to any kind of shoe material or adhesive that touches my skin other than leather. So I have 2 adorable pair of booties that cause a rash where they hit my bare skin above my ankle. My leg has to be covered where ever those shoes touch.

Can't say I feel I've had any misses this year.

I came to love lilac, and I am very pleased that midi dresses and block heels are back.

Among my biggest hits:
● Shortsleeved pink floral summer dress
● Charcoal straight leg jeans
● Midnight blue simple but glamorous-looking bathing suit
● Light blue highnecked, longsleeved blouse with tiny structured ruffles
● Lilac turtleneck pullover
● White block-heeled sandals with ankle straps
● Midnight blue block-heeled suede mules
● Birkenstock style sandals in navy, white, silver, and black (yes, 4 pairs--wear them as house shoes year round)
● Extremely comfortable and supportive lilac hiking shoes
● Simple white cardigan that can be worn year round
● Two long, warm non-neutral cardigans (lilac and cobalt)
● Large grey silk scarf with an abstract print containing virtually all my (cool) wardrobe colors
● Red tote bag

Oh I am so jealous of the lulu maxi puffer, stylefan!

And of the Chloe bag, Brooklyn!

Sally, jumpsuits are Your Look. Milk the jumpsuit! I love those diadoras too.

Omg, Angie and Torontogirl — the Eccos sneakers are freakishly supportive while not being too squishy. So perfect. Lots of room in the toe box too.

My misses were:
- blazers. I feel like I should like blazers. I like how they dress up a jeans-and-sneakers outfit. I also like structure. But the fit is just slightly off in most blazers and any wrinkling and bunching is enough to prevent me from wearing them.

- grey lululemon sweatshirt. It catches on my hips and that bothers me.

Hits:
- shirting. Ive figures out that cotton button downs are an excellent outer layer for the summer in the office. I can wear an undershirt for warmth. I also found some that fit me nicely and don’t pull.

- Zara Lace-up gladiator sandals — go with cropped pants really well.

- Lululemon love tee III in pima cotton — expensive, holy cow! But it has a perfect neckline and length (and a curved hem, I might add). It is perfection and therefore, worth it.

Aw, I like the jacket and the skirt. But the point isn’t what I like—it’s what feels like you.

My best purchase this year was clearly my cape/vest.

My worst mistake was.... not in the realm of fashion. Clothing-wise, it’s probably going nutso on the jumpsuits and buying three. There’s also this blazer, which I bought at the end of 2018, that I can never quite figure out what to do with. It gets thumbs up on here whenever I post it, but so far isn’t part of my life.

I share the frustration of poorly constructed pieces that don't last a season. Pilling, fading, seams coming undone... UGH.

For those who asked about the ugly couch blazer - it fits nicely and it is well-made. But the threads of the jacquard are metallic, making it shiny and "loud" (I am certain that is what attracted me to it in the first place). I've tried dressing it down, but I feel like I am wearing something from Liberace's closet instead of my own.

These have all been SO fun to read! Thank you everyone for indulging me :D

I always really enjoy these kinds of posts!

HITS—Gap wide leg cropped chinos. I think I wore these about three times a week from May thru October, except for July and August, when the thick fabric was too warm. My other big hits this year we’re midi-length dresses and skirts for spring, summer, and fall, although I don’t have Finds.

MISSES—My misses are a few dozen items which were given to me by a friend who was editing her wardrobe after a change in her weight. I mentioned this in a thread I started a couple days ago. I’ve really noticed how, with a few exceptions, I prefer the items I choose myself, even though what she gave me is great quality and in colors which work for me. I think, as time goes on, I’ll end up passing along most of what she gave me.

Fun! But I don't have pictures.
Hits - Flared jeans, colorful silk blouses, bringing in rusts, cognac and other warm and intense colors.
Misses - All attempts to wear current jeans styles that depend on cinching the waist. The quest continues, nonetheless!

Hits: almost everything I bought from Boden, including 5 long-sleeve cotton sweaters in a variety of colors: the most worn tops this year.

BR snake print skirt.

Unexpected hit: weight loss meant I could bring my 2 loved leather jackets back into my wardrobe. Hope I can maintain.

Misses: shoes and boots. I have foot problems, arthritis, bunions, flattening metatarsals. This makes it hard to find shoes, and my feet might be fine in one pair for a few months, then they starting hurting. Boots are really a problem.

Several cotton turtlenecks in different colors didn't turn out so well. My neck didn't like them and I didn't like my neck in them. The only good turtleneck is a black rayon Halogen that I bought several years ago.

Thanks nemosmom, this is a good, fun exercise!

My hits
Tweed suit - a nice piece for work, professional and pretty
Aqua dress - so versatile and the prettiest colour - this dress is probably the item that I get more compliments when wearing than anything else in my wardrobe.
Tartan dress - a bittersweet purchase, because bought on Karen Millen's closing down sale. So no more from this brand for me.
Bags - the Bao Bao and blue bag.

Misses
White and grey oxford - feels a bit too boyish for me
Espadrille - not enough support in the construction and makes me worried I could roll my ankle in these
Boden dress - required a massive chop and remodelling of the skirt to get it to work. I now does work, but really, I should have just returned it.
Green dress, not sure why I bought this, I don't really like the colours or style on me and passed immediately - better to let it go in almost new condition and let someone else enjoy this dress.

Everything I bought this year has already been used a lot, excepting these 2 tops which are too tight atm. The necklines are a bit problematic too, the tie dye is wide and low and the black the keyhole is low. Both in holding zone.

Right now I'm especially happy with my tall burgundy boots. They're very comfy, go with and elevate everything, and are compliment magnets!

2019 turned out to be a great shopping year for me. But there were a few misses. I am getting better at predicting the misses.

Biggest Hits:
The biggest hits for 2019 has to be jeans. I found it much easier to find the fit and silhouette I was looking for in jeans. My two favourites were:
BR wide- legged
Fidelity OH BOY
I also found a couple of HEWIS this year.
Lululemon Olive Maxi Puffer - this has already gotten lots of wear
Saute Mouton Olive Winter Boots - these have made a few outings
I found a pair of very comfy sneakers.
Finn Comfort Blue sneakers

Biggest Misses:
Boden Cashmere Cardigan - I am still wearing this but the cut is slightly off for me.
New Balance Walking Shoes - I replaced my old ones and for some reason, these are not as comfy. Not sure why.

Hits: Uniqlo U tee shirts. Fabulous quality for a tee at any price, but for $15, I’m gobsmacked. Hope Uniqlo never changes them & keeps them in stock.

Angie-recommended Soft 7 sneakers. They are wonderful.

Taos Crave combat boots that quite a few fabbers have. I bought them at the end of last winter on sale, and they were comfy out of the box once I popped in a sheepskin insert. Have worn them a ton this winter.

Wide-legged, high-waisted Uniqlo U jersey pants, jeans and cotton trousers. Love love LoVe this silhouette.

Rust-colored full-sleeved COS sweater that I lemminged Synne on. Thanks Synne!

Possible fail—my beautiful COS chocolate wool midi sweater dress. After the first wear, I realized it was uncomfortably too big. I hope my seamstress, the fabulous Fatima, can fix it, but I’m really irritated at myself for not realizing the size problem and returning it. Too late now. It’s not a good feeling having to throw more money at a new purchase, no matter how beloved.

Potential fail #2—Blush low-heeled Paul Green refined moto booties. They were such a beautifully fitting bootie, and on such a deep sale, that I bought them with the intent of dyeing them dark brown. I have been looking for dark brown booties for the past 3 seasons without success, so this seemed a perfect means of getting exactly what I wanted. Dye job turned out great, but I’ve yet to wear them. Hmm.

Biggest hits:
Investment dresses. I've shifted to more dresses for work wear, and these 3 are getting kudos almost every time I wear them

Outerwear. This was an investment area this year, and these 3 jackets rose to the top.

Legit tennis shoes. Not my favorite investment, and I'm still getting over my poison eye for these shoes. But post stress fracture, I'm very grateful for these shoes, and can't imagine traveling without them.

Misses:
JCrew. I got into a really bad buy/return-for-credit/rebuy with credit cycle this fall. So many good looking items that just didn't work for me. Ended with the slingbacks below... and learned they pinch my toes when I tried wearing more than an hour. Argh.

Loft leggings and sweater: Part of a January focus on loungewear. Snagged and pilled within a month of buying.

My teal See by Chloe bag has been a huge hit. It makes me happy every time I use it. I love teal.
My menswear-ish pants would be my second favourite purchase. Big silhouette change for me.
I have had a couple of misses too, but I’m going to dwell on the positive

Gosh! I’ve had a pretty good year with some really fun additions, but if I had to single out items that I loved, saw lots of wear, and that I still love it would have to be the following:

-short red puffer - not a new item, but saw lots of wear winter 2018/2019 and back in heavy rotation for 2019/2020.
-red beret - late 2018, but become a signature in 2019
-canvas sneakers - wear with everything from jeans to skirts and dresses
-2 pair of white jeans CK and RL. The RL’s with a fuller leg edged out the skinnier CK’s, but both pair saw, and still see YEAR ‘ROUND use. I often wore them 3-4 times before they needed laundering.
-thrifted wool jacket - bought for $5 and meant as a warm topper for bridge night (arctic A/C at the community centre) fits like it was tailored for my body. I just LOVE it!
- thrifted red linen shift. Another $5 bargain that saw weekly wear over high summer.
-red Danier cross body picked up this summer. It’s been a long time since I’ve used a cross body, and this one pulls it’s weight

Early days yet, but the beige UNIQLO PUFFER JACKET (bought October) and the black COMBAT BOOTS (bought November) are turning into workhorses, and the blue MAXI PUFFER is my go-to for the early am gym run as well as most days when the temps go below -10degC.

The only items that didn’t work out for me were the J.Crew Wide Leg Jeans. I needed ‘tall’ for the inseam, but the rise was a mis-fit and the fabric stretched overmuch with body heat. Wore about 6 times, then donated. I also picked up a mauve sweater that I loved for the colour, but it pilled horribly after minimal wear. Not a total miss, but not great was a thrifted pair of Gap beige chinos for $3. I meant them for gardening pants, but wore them often enough ‘off the property’ as part of an outfit before realizing there was some odd discolouration going on. Plenty of wears over the summer, but I could have looked better if I’d worn other bottoms.

These are so fun to read!

My biggest hits include my Bed Stu boots (bought in February, 58 wears), Elizabeth Suzann dress (February, 38 wears), and my Eileen Fisher jumpsuit (February, 41 wears). February was a good month for me!

Misses include my rust velvet scarf (February, d'oh, 5 wears). The tassels fell off of it almost immediately, and while I will still keep and wear it, I haven't found it as useful a completer as I'd hoped. I'd also call my Gap joggers (March, 33 wears) a miss. They're my only 2019 item to already be retired. They made it, just barely, past 30 wears, but the back pocket material wore through the fabric of the pants at the seam corners, creating substantial holes. I'd sized up on these pants to get a baggy fit, so this was definitely a construction/materials issue rather than a result of strain on the fabric.

Total winners: almost any dress from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren or DKNY at Macy’s. I swear, while there was a dearth of dresses at Nordstrom, Macy’s was knocking it out of the park! Runner-up was a smashing sweater-boots combo in metallic brown that Angie suggested. I love both items and have worn them often!

Helena, do you mean the basic white Canvas Chuck? The ECCO is MUCH better for your foot. MUCH better quality too. Cleaner and simpler. Iconic classic-factors about the same.

I wear a LOT of Converse. But only leather and the more supportive versions. Fussy feet.

My 2019 hits include midi skirts, casual pants, denim jackets, and cotton sweaters. My misses are the black skirt, gray flower dress, and black stripe t neck. My life is either very casual or dressy since I've retired. These were all added this year. My older sneakers, boots, and skinny jeans, which are not shown, are still getting lots of wear, too.

I bought a lot this year and love all of it equally - so many hits. That is why it is so upsetting that many of those items don’t fit properly any more. Does it mean they were actually a miss?
I do have one big miss - knee high boots that I bought at the beginning of year - bad quality, leather tore in few places where legs were rubbing of each other.

Hits: 4 huge hits. Olive ( which were duping the 2017 exact same pair which was getting tired), and ink, snakeskin pants. Have realised they are “false plains” so can wear patterned tops but they still feel interesting. Bought both on sale on holiday in March. 42 and 45 wears already.
Ink long cardigan bought on sale in May. Merino, 27 wears.
Black Skechers bought full price in July, an as-near-exact replacement for the 2010 black and lace ones as I could possibly get. 33 wears already. So comfortable!
Misses are more that the wears are not as high as I hoped. I am not getting rid of them.
This year’s first purchase in Feb of dark green houndstooth leggings. Only 9 wears because I bought the snakeskin pairs only a month later which I clearly liked better.
Silver linen shorts bought March at tail end of last summer, on sale. Because of 4 kg weight loss they are too big around the middle. Can still wear if waistband covered. 13 wears.
Yet another “going out top” bought on sale in March, on holiday. Gorgeous and I love it but only 2 wears- too many choices!
Pic 1: ink cardigan and pants
Pic 2: olive pants
Pic 3: new Skechers
Pic 4: old tired and slippery-soled Skechers now relegated to gardening
Pic 5: green houndstooth leggings
Pic 6: going out top
I may have to get rid of the shorts if I can find better. Still in excellent nick but really floppy about the waist. I hope to maintain the lower weight but a little bit worried about the Christmas feasting!

Haven't read all replies yet, but I am laughing at your funny descriptions on your fails! (Ugly couch blazer, lol).

My best buy of 2019 is my earth tone Pea Coat, aka Car Coat (as Angie calls them). I wear it all the time! I love the cut. It is classic, crisp, polished, retro modern. Goes with everything. I was unsure about the colour, since it is a muddy, rather unatrractive brown. But it is a nice addition to my coat capsule, fills a major wardrobe hole, and as I already said: I WEAR IT ALL THE TIME. Will look for more peacoats in other colours for next year!

A fail must be my very expensive silly buy of "oxblood vinyl joggers". Aka the red rain trousers. They where originally dirt cheap from Asos, and sounded like a fun addition to my new trendy style persona. But I hadn't taken into consideration that taxes and tolls apply when ordering from abroad... I wore them out of spite ONCE and one time only. Not sure what to do with them now. They where fun in theory, but I feel too much like a clown when wearing them. Hopefully a lesson learned here.

Great to see the hits and the misses - I love that blazer NemosMum - why doesn’t it work?

Hits for me
- Furla bag - loving a more structured bag
- yellow bag - so much fun
- gold bomber - it goes with everything!!
- jumpsuit - I feel like the best version of me in this
- white Diadora sneakers - comfy and Italian!
-EF sandals, great dressiness

Misses
- cable sweater. Marked it on wear 2 but decided it was very unflattering. Chunky knits need to stay in my fantasy life.
- striped tee- stretched out after about 5 wears. Very poor quality.
