I agree that this might be a good silhouette with dresses. It could toughen up a floral or two.

As I have two daughters, I will slowly back away from a conversation about moms, daughters and clothes with the thought that you are thoughtful to come here and ask about the item and how to wear it. If you do decide to return it so you can get something closer to your original want, it's always a good tactic to honor your mom's intention while letting her know it didn't work. List a couple of the positives before the negative is also helpful; and if you can say, "you'd never have guessed from how cute it is on the hanger, but ...." it will help your mom feel like it was "close".

She may also be trying to send you a message that a regular moto is too "tough" which it isn't of course, but we moms can miss the "it's how you wear it".

I like the jacket! Maybe try it with a drapier top or, as others suggest, a dress or tunic in a jersey knit. I think for this look to work, the underlayer has to be more fitted or just grazing the rib cage so it flows from the cropped hem of the jacket (if that makes sense?).

Your mum sounds so sweet to be helping you out, though I know how that can sometimes make things harder to return

You know, it fits you like it fits the model. So...maybe a plainer top like the one the model wears - no collar. I think maybe the black trim does fight with the jacket, but I like that hemline on the shirt you're wearing.

I agree with Sheila. I think this jacket could work for you with a different top.

Well you don't sound very happy with this jacket. I think you might want to style it like the model...with a neutral, solid-colored top. The strong colors of the plaid might be part of why you are not thrilled with this jacket. Just a thought. On the other hand, if you would like to wear this top under the jacket, then I think this is the wrong jacket. The two pieces are fighting with each other for attention, I believe.

Apologies for the bad pics. Mirror is bolted so had to improvise and used phone as my cameras shutter button! Also hence the odd poses....anyway.

Jacket pictures was another motherly love purchase. She knew I wanted a moto - something for campus as well as going out. It's comfortable enough, warm, and black so goes with pretty much anything.....

But it's cropped right below the bust. It's shiny. It flaps when my arms move... And as a short curvy person that is not the most flattering. I just don't know what to do with it, what I could possibly pair with it to help, and maybe I'm overreacting???.. It's not that it's terrible in itself - I just don't know if I can work with it on, well ME.

Any ideas, thoughts on it?

In Store (looking much nicer on the model!) :
